      But anon, the environment.
Hybrid turbo cars burn less gas and that's good, just ignore that there are more races now.

Very malthusian indeed. As efficiency increases, so does consumption. So much so that the net environmental impact still continues to grow. Curious!

I know you are joking but I still want to point out how stupid this "muh environment" argument is.
All the parts for hybrid cars that have to be imported from all over the world plus the production of batteries are most likely net worse for "muh environment", F1 cars using less fuel isn't worth the cost. This also applies to normal cars btw.
Hybrid cars are for people that want to feel good because the data sheet says it uses a little less fuel and they think they are saving the environment by using it. They don't think about production cost at all.
It is sad that F1 has been cucked by "environmentalists" the same way that many institutions have.

The purity of racing without batteries and loads of other heavy shit on the car is greatly missed, along with those wonderful screaming engines. Why did they have to switch to vacuum cleaners?

I thought the cut tyres were pretty gay at the time, but honestly I think less grip is way better (as long as there's not much downforce, and the limit is gradual), to the point where I would love teams being mandated to use cross-ply tyres lol. That and an absolute limit of <5kg downforce at 180mph.

      Anonymous

I would change the regulations as I feel they are way too strict at the moment and don't leave much space for innovation, which is kind of the point of F1.
Stop forcing hybrind cars as they are way too complicated. Just do pure naturally aspirated engines with a max displacement, let the teams figure out the rest. Also no refueling and no pit stops. This would force the teams to build efficient and robust cars.

Hybrids aren't complicated, you're just too stupid to understand how they work

Hybrids are the explicit reason the costs for both F1 and LMP1 ballooned wildly out of control

Lol no, costs were already insane well before that

            Anonymous

            And increased exponentially more after.
Nearly every manufacturer that bowed out of LMP1 explicitly said it was because the costs got out of control to develop the mandatory hybrid systems, and the FIA themselves specifically introduced spec hybrids for the Hypercars to offset the cost of developing them.

            Anonymous

Sources? Seems far more likely that costs would have gone up regardless

            Anonymous

Of course the costs went up regardless, but the additional complexity of cutting-edge hybrid systems made it exponentially worse. Just like turbocharging and four wheel drive made racing cars more expensive to develop back in the 80s when the tech was new.
I don’t care enough digging through old press releases, if you want to read it you can find it yourself.

yes I remember what it was like in the mid to late 90s. mika häkkinen winning those titles was magic. then it became stale after that. it's an unpopular opinion but I prefer F1 this way. the dominance was clearly not a problem to anyone when ferrari was doing it, or red bull, but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo you can't have mercedes dominate the sport

in the analog time there were some horrible teams that folded within the season. hybrids had this too but for a good time now there haven't been mid season drop outs. I wish they would allow andretti to join

F1 has been gay since like forever. Like one anon here said, its just a glorified spec series-all cars have been the same since like the 80s. Add to that a shitty BOP that allowed the same teams to win for years and clearly bought judges and you get a WWE-tier shitshow. Sportscar racing is where its at, F1 is bullshit for NPC's

F1 should change back to smaller wheels and tyres. Would improve racing, reduce weight, reduce spray and it would be safer. They run 405/18/?? on the rear, swapping to a 350/16/?? wouldnt be out of the question.
