Redpill me on exotic shift patterns why do some of them even exist? I can maybe understand back in the 30s when the gearbox was designed on paper and machined by hand but why did the beetle have a star pattern shifter in the 60s?

Thats a common shift pattern for race cars.
Its because you barely need 1st gear in a race.
Most of the time you need 2nd and 3rd.
4th on the long straight.
Is that a 190e?
Does R have a lockout? I'm sure I'd fricking wreck that gearbox by shifting without thinking about it.
Haven't driven that specific one, but there's typically either a lockout or a really strong spring that you have to overcome to get into reverse. E30s have a normal shift pattern but a similar left and up reverse and it'd be really hard to go into by accident, you have to go way over to the left and push much harder than the forward gears to get into it. Looks like a similar setup on the one in the pic, even though first is down and left.
What are you talking about? The beetle has an H shift pattern.
The old ones have a star shifter. Not 100% sure how far back you need to go to find them though.
No they don't, they shift in an H pattern.
Wow look at that H pattern. It's almost like I know what I'm talking after daily driving air cooled Volkswagens for 3 years.
>air cooled
gallons of oil
I'm alright with this
also nice trips
checked
I don't drive manual but this seems intuitive.
Going from 1st to reverse or vice versa seems easy enough.
Yeah it's nice because you don't have to worry about accidentally shifting into reverse because you have to push the lever down to engage it
Wtf is OP's pic?
Stay away from that shit morons, you really don't know what you're fricking with.
Demons aren't real, Pablo
>real
there's your mistake. just keep going to church. no need to be so brave.
What is it? It looks like some woman's astrology book.
If only you knew, which you shouldn't know
