You had to be there
They're just good. I don't know what to tell you, you either get it or you don't.
I got into them in 2015 well after the hype. You didn't have to be there, the music stands on it's own, no one cares about what was going on in music journalism and le flavor of the month aesthetic music blogs in 2008 - 2012.
If you're secretly gay perhaps.
>You didn't have to be there
Their music is steeped into that millennial zeitgeist of the mid 2000s.
Yea if you didn't live in that crepuscular world on the verge of the 2008 crash, you kinda don't get how this music appeared.
It came out of the early 00s electroclash and 8bit scene. There was a lot of retro 80s stuff shaping the music back then. The t-shirts, the synths, all had this 80s dejavu atmosphere. Like people born in the 80s were trying to reverse their brains back into kid blank slate mode.
That's what this music came out of.
Alice was just a mascot he used as a front for his music.
You're like boomers who think they're special and unique for liking The Beatles and Pink Floyd and Gen Xers who think they're special for liking Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
I'm sure zoomers will be saying 'oh yeah bro you had to be there for Black Country, New Road and Black Midi, you have to have an in depth knowledge of the entire history of the decade to truly comprehend this deeply nuanced music'. Just kidding, no one will care about Black Country and Black Midi in 10 years.
>'oh yeah bro you had to be there for Black Country, New Road and Black Midi, you have to have an in depth knowledge of the entire history of the decade to truly comprehend this deeply nuanced music
Yeah you kinda have to, to understand why zoomie music is so meta and ecclectic.
It all ties in with the absurdist faux-self-deprecating meta-humor, the attention-seeking-taken-as-implied culture, the obsession with lookism and aesthetic facade, it's all about the zeitgeist and you can only understand what produced music from this time if you lived now.
People 30 years from now on won't get it, they'll see it filtered through their own culture.
Anyway misunderstanding often creates new perceptions
Tb.h that's why I don't understand Beatles, since I didn't live in that time.
I just don't get what's the big hoop-la about this band. Sure, some decent songs here and there, but I'm just not so much in awe like the boomers who lived in those times. I probably need my brain to have developed in that decade to get it, since every zeitgeist is defined by a certain emotional style, a different tonus and way of reacting to things. And I just don't have that boomer mindset to get the Beatles.
And I don't expect boomers to get Crystal Castles either and that's fine.
This is the more accessible companion album.
No you had to be there, you can like them sure but you wont get it as much as someone does when they were there
Sorry zoomie you cant have everything
you are incorrect and stupid
/thread
Youre only getting mad because you know its true, its fine though man youll have your own things just make sure not to be a contrarian about the things going on at the time
Im sure back when crystal castles were blowing up and on skins etc you wouldve said it sucks kek but CC is firmly something special for its time
you're incorrect and I'm smarter than you
/thread
Concession accepted, atleast you were calm enough to respond to me, I see how you just ducked that other guy BTFO you
You ne
ed to be older than 18 to post here
I'm 22
/thread
Yeah so you missed CC kek exactly what everyone is telling you
I find it extremely funny that you think I missed out because I wasn't a pitchfork drone or blogger in 2011.
This is you.
He's unironically right
Everything after the 90s is meta retro pastiche crap, reprocessed, repackaged, refiltered and remirrored to get that extra meta retroactive revivalist thrill out of it
t.
Not clicking, you missed it and youre annoyed because you know this, stop trying on this topic kiddo
I was there.
You 100% did not have to be there to "get" this music.
People who hold this "you had to be there" garbage over younger generations heads are just old farts who are angry that their time is over not realizing that it only is over because they're angry and bitter.
what is to get even
it's just catchy easy-listening techno music
Listen to the 1st album
They're one of 2 electronic groups I actually like
Alice might be one of the hottest punk adjecent chicks ever
I love how disgusting she looks She looks like she sleeps in a gas station bathroom and showers once a month.
Would
She looks like a mixture of Dee and the Waitress from It's Always Sunny.
shitty pitchfork landfill
Privileged white female wrongfully accused Muslim man of rape and band dissolved. Rasism and islamophobia won again, what a shame.
Dude she was 13 and homeless when he groomed her
>she was 13 and homeless
More like throwing a tantrum and running away from home because mom and dad don't understand me.
Yeah well this type is asking for it if she hangs out with strangers to prove mom and dad she's now independent
Chiptune edgelords that were popular with millennials 15 years ago. They’re controversial now because the fetus looking bitch #metoo’d the Turkish looking retard, and LULZ has a fetish for any girl musician with a pixie cut and too much eyeliner who looks like she smells like urine.
The best CC tunes were the ones where Ethan took large vocal samples from an already existing track, and was able to completely recontextualise the original track, Vanished and Crimewave are the GOAT examples, being remixes of Van She's Sex City and HEALTH's Crimewave
also Air War with its Ulysses audiobook sample
the most similar track in this vein from (II) is probably Year of Silence with its Sigur Ros sample
It's pretty much best darkwave like band that came out in this millenium. They are really great music.
OG CC fan here
In 2008 their debut was incredible. It captures the zeitgeist of that era
They never quite reached those heights again but II and III were heavy influences on Witch House, which in turn influenced a lot of normie music
album concept/execution is rogers-mothersbaugh-bowie tier.
elaborate
I remember listening to II when it was fresh. probably the closest ill come to having been a 20 something in the 80s listening to newly released Cure albums. and i dont mean that cuz he got robert smith to feature on a track
IYKYK
ethan is a creep italian
alice is a BPD whore
they made good music
saw them three times live wish alice pissed on me thats about it
oh id also like to add that concrete is their best track for me anyway
overrated, but loved by indiefags who don't listen to electronic music.
From their interview I read with them in Mixmag back in the day, they both come off as completely BPD antisocial pretentious fuckheads.
The Presets were the vastly superior electroclash band.
I'm assembling a team
wtf am i hearing
Hannah Montana's first couple of releases really captured the zeitgeist of being a 11 year old girl in 2006, I feel bad for you but if you weren't there you wouldn't get it
