True. It was literally better, faster, and easier to drift my Toyota Prius in the snow than it is my open diff truck.

      Drifting fwd is impossible

        Why?

      >in the snow
That's not exactly drifting it just looks like it when your ass it being held in by the fronts.

open diff rwd is terrible and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is moronic and has never tried to drive fast

I went fast last weekend with my open diff rwd. it's really not that big of a deal so long as you weren't planning to power over or yank the drift handle for your sliding.

I've seen a test with a GR Yaris, diffs vs no diffs, using the same tires. I know it's not RWD, but the one with diffs did better lap times.

Sorry. My post is mostly unrelated to OP's question. I read it wrong.

Does it help offroad too? Ive got a focus and some offroad to work but got stuck once in the rainy season. If so I will slap one in when my clutch wears out.

They're about the same, just a lot of FF enthusiasts coping over inferior lifestyle decisions (driving the wrong car), rotating on power is the most delicious handling character attribute there is.

      Ofc it does

Yeah, probably true as a straight comparison. Thing is, with the RWD you could install an LSD or a locker or just weld it if that suits you. Then you have a non-open diff RWD, which is better than any FWD.

I've been stuck in the sand because I have a 60's fullsize stepside pickup.
Literally only rook a couple friends to pickup the ass end and slide it over to some hardpack.
I was able to get unstuck for the same reason I got stuck- no weight over the drive wheels.

depends a bit on the surface, on loose/snow fwd with diffs is faster than rwd with diffs as you can control the slide much easier, on track it depends purely on the power and layout

I have a locker on my rwd truck that has saved me tons of times. Without it I'd be fricked. That said, if it was open diff I wouldn't own it.

Mostly true. You can airbag the right rear, at the strip, to grab a little more traction and you can play some games with the brake pedal, if you need some snow traction - but overall, open rears are fricking useless.

I’ve only owned open diffs and the fwd with torque vectoring is much better than any of the normal fwd and rwd cars I’ve had in the snow. Still pales in comparison to the fwd-biased awd open diff torque vectoring car I had. If I could afford a car with a trio of torsens, I’d do it, lord knows the weather gets pretty inclement where I live. But my boss is a homosexual and hopefully that changes soon.
