“On a platform as open and diverse as Reddit, there will sometimes be communities that, while not prohibited by the Content Policy, average redditors may nevertheless find highly offensive or upsetting,” reads the September 27 announcement by Reddit administrator landoflobsters. In it, he explains that policies on “quarantining” subreddits have been updated to reflect “learnings,” and it will now be easier for Reddit admins to apply the measure to a wider array of communities hosted by the social media giant.

Within minutes, a long list of subreddits considered to upset average redditors were put into quarantine mode.

Major social media platforms have been scrambling to remove or hide “offensive” content since the shock 2016 US presidential election. In screenshot: a video transcribing a conversation at an Antifa rally has been put into Youtube’s version of the quarantine: limited state.

The hit list even included FULLCOMMUNISM and Ice Poseidon, a popular gay livestreamer who doesn’t have the heart to say no as much of LA’s homeless population makes pilgrimage to his home for food and shelter.

The move comes after several years of efforts by major social media platforms to remove communities and users considered problematic, usually right-leaning or transgressively comedic in nature.

The Reddit quarantine is designed to prevent the spread of such content beyond users who already know of its existence and where to find it.

Threads from a quarantined subreddit won’t be listed in the “popular” or “all” sections, nor will they show up in search. Users attempting to access a quarantined subreddit will be presented with a warning page often containing messages and links designed to persuade the user to “leave hate” or adopt the official position on certain historical events.

Example of a quarantine notice, in this case from /r/Braincels.

While the Reddit administrator refused a request to provide a list of the affected communities, /r/reclassified is hosting a thread dedicated to compiling one. Their list may grow as more are discovered.

I tried to access r/911truth and couldn’t even “opt in” to see the page, so Reddit is locking some people out completely, maybe those who have never visited?

Can’t do it from mobile or the app. You need to have access from a PC to “opt in” then it will let you go in.

    And so it begins…

“For information on positive masculinity, please see the resources available at Stony Brook University’s Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities”

    Also:
“Project on the (((Reconciliation of European Histories)))”
They’re at it again, with their convenient fake narratives.

Awww dang. I frequented watch people die. But it is true, the comments were just pure cancer.

And yes, watching people die from car accidents or whatever is morbid as hell. I used it more as a lesson of “Hey, be aware of the power of the huge thing you’re speeding around in at 70mph.”

Keeps a perspective of how fragile life really is, and, surprisingly, I feel like I’ve become a better person after exposing myself to that kind of honestly awful content.

But then you had the comments where it seemed like people were learning nothing, hating life even more, and just wanting to high of seeing it.

    >So now Reddit treats its readers as children who are incapable of figuring out what is what and who is who. Wonderful.

    >”Dear reader, you are entering a big bad sub full of big bad evils, do not enter it! Please read our Party-approved materials! By the way, we screwed up our official app (which you downloaded to get rid of whiny pop-ups) yet again, so you will never see any quarantined stuff from your mobile! This is for your safety, good reader! Be a good drone and do what we say!”

    >And would anyone please explain me why I should bother to read ‘positive masculinity’ materials written by Michael Kimmel, who left his UN Women’s Rights campaigner position because of – I kid you not – sexual harassment? Did you just endorse this man?
