Put a down payment on a 2023 Prius ($30k). I can't believe I'm paying this much for a car but I have no other choice if I want a CLEAN and reliable car without paying an arm and a leg for used.

I told my sales guy to call me if a Corolla comes in too. Check the prices of 2-3 year Toyotas then get back to me.

you made lame homosexual decision, but I doubt it will be a poor financial decision. Cars are only going to become more expensive. you will be able to drive that pile for 10 years and sell it for 20k. Interest is gonna frick ya ass though.

It’d be tough to find one at the price point without a ton of miles, but the suggestion in

          A used Lexus ES300h

or a 5th Gen Avalon hybrid would be a huge step up if you didn’t need a hatch.

If you were going full appliance car, a Prius Prime from 2021 MY for $25k or less assuming your AGI is low enough. That way you could get 4 grand back from the feds next year at tax time and it’d be a $21k car that’d provide 10+ years of reliable if unglamorous transportation.

A Chevy Volt would also be a solid alternative to a Gen 4 Prime, if with the caveat that parts for repairs would likely be harder to come by in the longer term.

Financing with these interest rates is crazy. You're better off finding a good deal on a lease.

The value proposition of dropping panties is becoming worse by the year. b***hes being b***hes, but somehow even worse. It's like a race to the bottom but they've burrowed into hell and Satan is complaining of a leaky ceiling.

Not all of us want to drive a car pretending to be a gundam

I liked the civic coupe, the new gen has too much going on from the middle going to the back and it's clear they're trying to homogenize all of their cars

The HR-V is genuinely hideous, they need to make some serious improvements on the interior, exterior, and in performance.

Total brainlet here. Would a Prius V be a better choice if I want that hybrid tech along with the spacious room of a hatchback?

      Anonymous

Prius Vs are affected by the same head gasket issue that Gen 3s are, so probably not unless that was fixed as part of the 2016 refresh. If the price difference isn’t too much to swing, get a Gen 5 RAV4 Hybrid since it effectively fills the same niche as the Prius V down to comparable efficiency and interior specs, especially since the corrosion-prone HV cable was added to the hybrid system warranty.

        Anonymous

Thank you, friend. How easy is it to maintain a Prius V/Gen 5 RAV 4? Is the corrosion prone HV cable easy to replace with something stronger?

          Anonymous

Those two issues are the Achilles Heels of otherwise rock-solid and dependable designs. The head gasket issues for Gen 3 engines usually doesn’t come up until around 180k-200k miles and can be dealt with by preventative maintenance to things like the EGR valve. The RAV4 HV cable of “cablegate” infamy was caused by a protective cover design that trapped road salt next to the cable without being able to drain. Said cover was redesigned for the 2021 MY and onwards which shouldn’t be affected. I don’t know if earlier MYs can get the covering replaced at a dealer, but I’m pretty sure third party replacements exist.

Frick I did the exact same thing except I bought a prime because it was cheaper with the 5k federal rebate here in canuckland. It probably won't actually arrive for 2 years though so I'm driving my shitbox beater until then. Hopefully the market calms down by then and I can snatch a decent deal on another used beater and back out of the prius.
