this. the psychiatric industry in America is the most oppressive shit ever and in most states you can be apprehended, deemed insane, and forced against your will to take medicine that's clinically proven to shrink your brain. they recently started handing out 30 day shot doses of medicines that cause severe side effects like muscle stiffness, fatigue, and general retardation. I swear to God one day I will speak publicly about this and shame America for it's barbaric mental health practices.
Thing with the depot shots, withdrawal from them actively causes psychosis making it virtually impossible to get off them.
I didn't know that and never had a problem with that. I had a shot of haloperidol a few months ago and I swear to God when it wore off it was like a light switch in my brain turned back on and my internal monologue continued.

My other question is, once I start my core courses, about how much busy work should I expect? For example for my pre reqs I did the whole read while take notes and make flash cards etc... Or it is more about applying hands on knowledge that one learned in a&p, chem etc...?

My mom was head of a psych ward. She’s never said anything aboht anything paranormal but she did say some of the patients would get violent a lot and kick and punch staff

Hmm that has to be an american thing. I had to google smi. But generally as a nurse like with every illness you help the patient in his process of getting well and are there for his advocacy vs. the therapists, doctors, physiotherapists etc.
I do like the job. To me it's like hanging out with odd people that are not well, who are sometimes interesting, sometimes boring or annoying. And mostly you wait with them for the meds to kick in and help them to help themselfes
There isn't a universal definition for what a schizophrenia actually is, for example in Asia it's basically just psychosis and China doesn't even have a psychiatry system if they're not actual doctors and it can't be measured. Western psychiatry is a pseudoscience as a way to subjugate the undesirables of society(see slaves, women, Irish, gays and transgenders). In a way it is far worse than eugenics, since it's trying to weed out people after they have been born based without due process.
I'm curious how the Swiss define it.

There's a list of positive symptoms (think of things that they have that "normal" people dont) like hearing voices and negativ symptoms (things normal people have) like reduced emotions. Generally it's not super well defined and diagnosing is less for the goal of defining stuff but helping people.
Those symptoms can be treated (see akineton for stiffness for example) and medication and dosage can be changed to reduce side effects. I'm sorry for every schizo here who just got carelessly stuffed with meds.

My main concern is that I am not insane nor plan to be so. But that following this path may piss of certain powers that may not or may not be. My understanding of magic is pretty scientific, basically just super charged placebo to inact different states or invision certain beings.
