America up until Woodrow Wilson (maybe also a temporary interruption during the Civil War when King Lincoln suspended various shit) was real Liberarianism that was tried, and it was glorious.

    Define "works"

Liberty is a thing because it is wrong to tell other people how to live. Not because it "works" (whatever that means)

You're only alive for 80 years. You dont need it to work after that

Stonkton Rush thought he knew better than the engineers writing regulations, so he cheated and used his craft outside of regulated waters. He did this because he believed he had the freedom to do whatever he wants, as long as he gets money from it. Which is what all Libertarianism comes down to.

        Anonymous

its not about the regulations retard its that stockton rush was a retard who didnt listen to engineers about the technical limitations of his own vessel

          Anonymous

It's about the regulations, as well, retard. He built his craft the way he did so he could avoid engineering regulations and standards. He thought he knew better, because he was motivated by American FreeDUMB syndrome. He thought he was a John Galt character, like every Libertarian American thinks he is.

People must be allowed to fail, just like the banks. The government cannot save you. You pay up front in a collapsed submarine or you can pay on the back end with a government run genocide

          >People must be allowed to fail, just like the banks.
You can make this argument for a new industry or technological development, but submarines are a 100 years old and the design principles are well understood. The regulations exist for a reason because they are the gold standard.

There was no innovation or anything special about his sub, it was an example of cutting corners to make a rapid profit, while avoiding engineering regulations.

no he's correct a design that is destined to fail doesn't work, simple as

So how many uses does it need to be successful? Does one failure invalidate everything that happened before that?
The space shuttle Columbia had 27 successful missions before it exploded. I guess all those were failures as well?

              Anonymous

Space shuttle Columbia exploded because of a 1/100,000,000 error, not because of inherent design flaws that didn't meet well established design criteria.

Travelling to space is significantly more dangerous and difficult than doing submarine tours.

Rush's project was meant to be commercial submarine touring, so the fact it exploded after 13 uses is an abysmal failure.

It needs to be a non-faulty design that is able to actually function in the way its intended, IE as a reusable submarine. It doesn't do that, because its designed to structurally fail, because it was made by a dumbass who didn't know what he was doing and overrode the people who did

you're dishonestly meddling successful flights with a successful design. Columbia was also a design failure.
              >So how many uses does it need to be successful?
equally as many (or more) uses as the designers suggested before retiring the machine in question. That's how you prevent people from fucking dying.

Idk how you are tieing this hunk of shit to libertarianism. It was shit engineering that killed. Libertarianism fails for the same reasons communism does, everyone has to be on the same page and you would rapidly develop an all new ruling class. Also those laughable claims like like the individual paying for political representation or security. This would never happen as you would have been subjugated by the singular corp almost immediately.

Depends on what the goal is. If you want an egalitarian society then obviously libertarianism isn’t going to achieve that, but I think libertarians are all about choice
And freedom. Freedom to potentially live in a mad max environment.

Stockton was unironically cool. He got to see the titanic multiple times like he wanted and went out with a bang.
