It was until ~~*universal democracy*~~ took over that the elite and wealthy stopped risking themselves on the field of battle, because they knew they could get away with it now that the plebs had been tricked into thinking they were in charge.

He's part of the controlled "opposition".

Think about it: are there any Russian personalities actually calling for an end to the war? No, they all complain that the MoD "isn't going far enough" or that "group X" needs to try harder.

Putin allows this because a) it keeps the lesser factions (MoD, Wagner, FSB, Gazprom, HOMO, etc) fighting with eachother instead of plotting against him, and b) it gets the Russian public worked up in a way that is generally pro-war "we are failing because we aren't raising our eyebrows enough!!"

It is so incredibly rare for Putin himself to ever be named or directly criticized. It's always the underlings who are responsible. Basically how the Czar did things up until the Reds had enough.

The truth is, the government is a small group of people, and the PMC and fighting forces are protecting them. If the PMC revolts, the rich political class are at he mercy of this convict army and the separatists.

Russia would have to fight a war on two fronts, in Ukraine and on their own soil. You see how this revolt is a response to the war, as these people want to stop the war and have peace.

    >rich people vacation
    >poor people die in wars
It has been this way for a very long time. We have many, many examples of this in the US. Guess what? The rich are still there, even getting elected to office by the very people they sent to die.

In all honesty, it's not THAT much compared to what the West has been reporting earlier.
I mean, only 20'000 for a victory in a decisive battle of the war? That's like peanuts for Russia.
In 1943, when they were fighting Nazis on the same territories 80 years ago they've lost around 400'000 to regain control of East Ukraine.

Siege of Berlin alone took 80'000 Soviet casualties back then. And at that point the war was already won. They just wanted to "get there first", so 80'000 KIA seemed a reasonable price. I wonder what sort of casualties would taking Berlin cause. I'm imagining over 10'000 for sure.
