Rewatch it. Nardwuar starts the interview by spreading false info/gossip and calling their friend Lydia Lunch a bitch. Nardwuar used to fuckin suck.

Lydia Lunch is a bitch though

      >notoriously poor neck pocket fit , go fender
      >loosen strings and neck bolts
      >wrestle neck into place and tighten
Thirsty must no longer have a guitar tech

not really. if anything fake punk that smokes weed and cheats on his feminist wife. worst kim did was tease cuckolding in the song but irl she was just a monogamous art hoe.

thurstons an asshole but you have to like him for how boldly he plays guitar. hes just another 90s star that thinks any black woman is a hero. at this point all he wants is to play his shows and smoke his high thc % weed

      >fake punk

CONFUSION IS SEX/KILL YR IDOLS was some of the gnarliest music on planet earth circa 1982 ... Sonic Youth toured with fucking Die Kreuzen for crying out loud ... Thurston's been involved in the vanguard of underground american music since before you were a twinkle in the eye of your dad's dick, you fucking pseud.

And Steve Shelley played drums for Crucifucks, and I know punk dick measuring is the least punk thing ever, but they were punk as fuck

Are there any other instances where a band completely renders another band obsolete? I am glad Unwound exists because they reveal just how shitty of a band Sonic Youth were. A few strung out dope addicts punching above their weight trying to make avant-garde music. Music by assholes for assholes. The whole No Wave scene fucking sucked save for a couple bands like Liquid Liquid who were able to carve out their own niche instead of trying to be Branca. Thank God for Unwound. Thank God for intelligent guitar music that is actually smart and not made by self-important self-appointed homosexuals.

I like both like most people :))

Calling Sonic Youth fake punk is a bit like calling the secretions of an apple “fake apple juice” Sonic Youth were in many ways both seperate from the punk scene and the progenitors of, at the very least, the second wave of punk and brave riders of the post punk halcyon

his whole ecstatic peace record label and how hes so knowledgeable about free jazz and black metal and all this underground music that youve never heard of is pretty cringe

Nah he would reach out to small noise labels to help boost their profile, I have a few friends that he helped out totally randomly

that generation plays jazzmasters because the guitar makers put out a lot of guitars that ended up in pawn shops. thats why.

      dumb ass.

imagine paying $100 for a pawnshop 60s Jazzmaster.... Gen x had it good.

The 90's was the golden age of buying used shit. All the old gear from the 40's-70's, nobody wanted it. Boomers were getting rid of their records and replacing them with CDs. Thrift stores had actual rare finds and weren't full of flippers. It was glorious.

Unwound's gargled goat balls since they went full vacuous indie-rock post NEW PLASTIC IDEAS.

Unwound wouldn't have a fucking *career* if it wasn't for SISTER. Get real.

      its funny
i never heard of unwound until not that long ago and every time i try to listen to it i just shrug and go 'meh indie' and its turns into unrememberable noise

You’re going too overboard and directing this energy inside in a bad way. Remember, Sonic Youth being strung out is a good thing... It’s the reason they play in stadiums and have Nirvana writing about them while Unwound is stuck playing all ages shows

who else read that in a scooby-doo voice?

Thurston Moore was always an innovator first and a songwriter second to me. With that being said Daydream Nation is and will always be one of the best albums I ever listened to, but it’s one of those albums that you listen to every once in a while, so it doesn’t lose that magic lustre.

You’re only calling him pretentious because you don’t understand he is primarily using his music as a vehicle for exploring the textural possibilities of the guitar. He’s a really cool and zany guy don’t say shit like that about him without giving it some thought. Remember, he is one of the OGs of Alt for good reason
