There are some eurocuck countries trying to go cashless, so it's not hard to see why one would think that. But I don't think it's going to take off much even in Europe. All the illegal immigration scams likely wouldn't be possible without cash

They will just give them loadable bank cards or open up new "inclusion bank accounts" that require no ID or an address etc.

There is a reason behind this. In the past, the bank stocked exactly that money that people physically brought in. In the advent of digitization, banks started to have more digital cash than physical cash, so there was the danger of banks running out of physical money, when too many people want to make a withdrawal at the same time. The German government created a law that forbade German banks to have less than 80% of their digital money in physical money but over the decades this number shrank to 3%.
Furthermore banks are allowed to inflate their "digital cash", as long as their physical money does not fall below 3% of that number.
That means if you deposit 100€ in physical cash, the bank places 100€ digitally into your account, but their digital assets increase by 3333.33€.
Of course this means that if you withdraw 100€ in physical cash, the bank deducts 100€ digitally from your account, but their digital assets decrease by 3333.33€.
That's why in Germany it's forbidden to call for a rush onto the bank to withdraw all the cash you have.
Now imagine what happens if the state orders to abolish cash and every citizen has to bring their cash to the banks.
Whatever there is in physical cash, the banks assets will increase by 33233.33% and since there is no longer physical cash that can be withdrawn, that increase is permanent, it will never ever go away.
And all that while the citizens only get that in digital cash which they brought in physically.
It's a grand scheme to boost the banks.

Fraction reserve banking predates digitization of anything. In a post cash world bank reserve rates would still exist to control the money multiplier. They would just be set solely based on economic needs rather than as a hedge against a bank run.

The real shit for them is just keeping it in the eco system. Is tead of a few hundred dollars out of the
Account of each user they have 100% of this money in digits on a screen meaning they can lend more out to people on high interest loans. It means they can easily move more money into buying other enterprises and into other projects. Imagine the billions in circulation just sat around ready to spend on top of their normal lending budgets and so on.

One thing I've noticed, here in America, is that there's been a rapid bifurcation in my local economy when it comes to cash.

Due to a lot of the bars and restaurants near me barely scraping by during COVID, they're now either all-cash (to avoid card surcharges skimming their profits) or offer two-tier pricing, with cash-only payments being slightly cheaper than paying by card (as the card prices bake in the processing surcharge). Mostly, it's the big national chains that still have a single menu & accept either cash or card for payment.

          Anonymous

Weird. In my part of Canada places went card only cause of COVID, and then stayed card only because of how convenient it is. I doubt the card fees made a difference, but I imagine it's more underrepoting income that helped even more so when qualifying for COVID benefits.
I haven't had any issues going cashless in Washington state, in fact tmobile park is entirely cashless. But I know America is state based, in Canada, and now Washington it seems you just tap your card everywhere and just select a tip amount on a screen. But I know in Nevada and other states they take your card back swipe it, and make you sign a receipt and shit, so I can see cash being more convenient than that.

They never made much off fees, and in most developed countries there are privacy laws around your banking information.
They make most their money in lending.
When you deposit money, they need to keep a certain amount of their total balance in reserve as cash in case people need it, but they can lend out the rest and earn interest on it.

That is also why e-transfers or whatever your country calls them have 0 fees, if it cost me $2.50 to send someone a fiver or whatever everyone would still use cash instead. Where I live pretty much all your banking is fee if you have a minimum balance, otherwise you just pay a monthly fee for the account.
Credit card fees are a thing for merchants but they are small and nobody's ever actually gave a frick about them, mom and pops just prefer cash so they can commit tax evasion.
Also robinhood makes money off PFOF.

When discussing cash vs. digital money, suddenly people claim cash is all about being useful for crime again and suddenly cash is satan. Now which one is it? It's how the mydealz.de guy got filthy rich. He linked shops which used his cashback company. The people visiting his site are peasants, very poor, commited to counting every penny and getting cashback everywhere. Probably not that well educated. The mydealz guy knows a shitload about the people visiting him, however his customers know jack shit about him. He can forge even better advertisements for his customers now, squeezing even more out of them that way. And sell the data to schufa or whoever else might be interested. No idea why I should make him rich and tell him all about me, when all I get is measly $2 here and there.
