The 4.3 vortec should’ve never been in the Silverado/sierra.

My 2002 has it on start up but my 2004 doesn't so I assume they fixed in 2003

I mean they make shit power but you literally can’t kill these fuckers unless you don’t change the oil
mine survived 16-24yr old me beating the absolute dog shit out of it weekly with straight pipes
only thing I replaced was the trans (because lol GM) and oil. I sold it and it got killed by a teenage driver wrecking it with 240k on it
gas gauge was broken for 6 years when I had it because lol GM and their shitty whinny pumps and I never changed the diff oil so I don’t know how those gears didn’t explode with all the teenage 1 wheel peels I did

Dexcool headgasket killed one at 110k miles, worked on BILs 88 (non-vortec) with 90k miles and spun bearings.Fiancee's dad had one with under 100k with valve seals shot to hell. I have a deep hate of the 4.3. I didn't bother completing this engine swap because it was shit even when the engine was running correctly even after the CSFI spider replacement and the intake gasket replacement and jacking the engine up to replace the #4 plug.

PS the Ranger despite having the head cracker 2.9 is still running fine.

The 4.3V in my 92 Blazer pretty much lived at the redline. I used to go through a set of rear tires every couple weeks. It either had little to no oil pressure most of the time or the shitty GM dash was wrong but it still kept going. The last nail in the coffin was driving it through a big mud puddle with no hood and a bare throttle body at close to the redline. After coming back with a jump pack and draining the mud out of the cylinders she fired up and took me home although she wasn't too happy. It ran for a couple weeks after that before it spun a bearing and I had to finish her off.

The 4.3 is technically pointless when V8's exist but it's still the closest you can get to a V8 with a V6.

Why would I want an engine that has anything to do with vore?

    Ford 3.0 Duratec

Was in a bunch or boring cars, didn't make exciting power. Lasts forever.

3.0 Vulcan for the same reasons. maybe even more boring.

You serious? It was in a bunch of boring cars... and the Noble M400. It didn't make exciting power in a Mercury Sable (obviously, it's a fucking Sable), but it makes over 500 in the Noble. It's an oversquare DOHC 3 liter V6 with forged rods from the factory. You can make plenty of very exciting power with it if you put in just the barest whiff of effort. Definitely not boring engines.

Agreed on the Vulcan though, even if it was the Duratec's grandpa.

Have the 5 liter flavor in my 97 Silverado. Vortec motors don't have the power of todays motors. But in there time they were decent for stock V8s. And yes, if keep the oil right they can rack up alot of miles on the clock.

Better than the crime that is the 4 cylinder.
