Post important artists that objectively dont matter

What are some examples of artists that have a reputation for being “important” or “significant” but who can safely be ignored because they only “matter” to stupid people with shitty taste who themselves do not matter?

    Kendrick Lamar

      Anonymous

The most overrated musician (using the term very loosely) of all time is Kendrick Lamar.

This is a very good answer but I can’t help but be suspicious that you arrived at this answer by way of already being a rap-listening white homosexual who promoted the very same culture and values that lead to Kendrick Lamar being perceived as “great” in the first place

For example you probably have gotten “chills” or even cried tears because you were so deeply inspired by a black male’s rap lyrics before. You would also seriously consider getting certain rap lyrics written by a black male tattooed on your white skin permanently because they have a special “meaning” to you, and you can recite those specific lyrics now on request

      How close am I?

        Anonymous

Not at all. Lamar is just lyrically overbearing and musically repetitive. He's mediocre.

          Anonymous

Right but only a rap fan would have these opinions in the first place. If you aren’t a rap fan it would go without saying that rap is a silly unimportant genre that mainly exists due to cultural and political reasons rather than actual musical merit

            Anonymous

I mostly dislike rap very much and dismiss most of it for its sub-musicality. Lamar, within this microuniverse, stands out as an example of mediocrity being hailed by other mediocre types.

Nickelback is objectively a good rock band. Billy Corgan himself, a personal friend and musical contemporary of Cobain himself, said Chad Kroeber is a “great songwriter”.

Just because you personally do not like a genre does not mean it lacks merit. Calling Nickelback NPC is inherently NPC. You could never structurally write a ballad like “this is how you remind me”

It’s not an opinion though. In a TV sitcom you have the main cast and then you have supporting characters or extras. Husker Du, their fans, and the entire genre they influenced are background characters. They are of niche importance and have no influence on the greater streams and currents of rock music

It’s like Husker Du is a substitute teacher. Their job is to fill in the gaps when nothing really important is happening

It’s a containment genre for fags

The content of the music of 80's acts like sonic youth, pixies, pavement, dinosaur jr... is simmilar of contemporary indie artists at the time. So why the "official history" is trying to sell them like game-changer groups? They were part of a movement but far from being singular musical propositions.
They aren't even idyosincratic acts like beefheart, bo diddley, can or a few of late 70's post punk acts.

Sonic Youth has been making distinct before Husker Du. Husker Du's influence on Pixies is minimal (yeah they were in the casting call for the bassist, who gives a shit when anyone with ears can't make the connection). Maybe that might be true for Dinosaur Jr their style of music is more morose

No I'd say that was a mere symptom of rock's death. It perished, strangled by the hands of the money grubbing industry, which homogenized every extant bit of rock 'n' roll left in the late 90s until there was basically no reason to listen to it anymore. Rock was a rotting corpse before MCR ever hit the charts, bands like Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20, and whoever did the Breakfast at Tiffany's song assured this.

Looking at the "Rock This" chart and its mostly normal, (Lovejoy, Bully, Linkin Park, Bring me the Horizon, Momma, Paramore, Blur) so what if some trap rock attitude or rap rock fusion was in there or a mixture of pop-subgenres. Rock has evolved, people experiment with a clash of styles now. It's just how it is lol.

rock is more of a term if anything, an attitude, a movement of your body. But even then, you can't tell me none of it is rock on this chart.

I can also look at alt now and its mostly normal shit with a few zoomercore shit.

It doesn't matter what you think or say.
The big names in alt-rock have quoted Husker as a major influence on them.
So if you ever listened to Pixies, Nirvana or Greenday, you listened to a music that couldn't have existed without that influence

          Anonymous

I would be absolutely fine if Pixies or Greenday never existed

The main current of rock music…from Elvia, to Rolling Stones, to Zeppelin and Sabbath, to Aerosmith and KISS, to Motley Crüe and Guns n Roses, to Oasis and Queens of the Stone Age would have continued intact, and that is all that matters. Faggy offshoot emo genres are completely disposable. Throw Fugazi in there too. Waiting Room is a shit song

Also what is with that dyke bass player from the Pixies and her disgusting wet hair gel look? It’s fucking gross. No reason for her to be in any band or be paid money for anything

            >what is with that dyke bass player from the Pixies and her disgusting wet hair gel look? It’s fucking gross. No reason for her to be in any band or be paid money for anything

She wrote some landmark alt-rock songs like Cannonball and Saints.
Not a big fan of hers and I think Breeders are terrible live, but they have some good songs.

            >I would be absolutely fine if Pixies or Greenday never existed
Lots of peeps would disagree with you. I'm no fan of either but some Pixies stuff is great and again influenced a lot of bands.

            >Queens of the Stone Age would have continued intact
I think QOTSA were influenced by Husker too. At least surely when Dave Grohl was in QOTSA. But I can't imagine that anguished sound with heavy melodic riffage without some influence from that.
You could write an email to some of your heroes from those bands maybe one of them will react to your opinions and tell you whether they were influenced by Husker or not. You'd be surprised. Sure they were a small and obscure band which became a cult band, they never made it to mainstream or were close to that toward the end, but they're widely known and appreciated among music makers.

        >”you’re wrong and you should listen to me saying you’re wrong but I can’t provide a reason why”

Clinically reliable indicator of low IQ.

    Basically all rap.
Rap has been the greatest swindle pulled on the normiesphere since hurr we need to fight Hitler.

Imagine having a bunch of ghetto apes spitting angry words in a mic and thinking that's music hahaha

Husker Du by comparison has a few really good songs. Most of their stuff is boring and sounds dated today, but you can find like 8 songs that are better than anything that came out in the last few years. Back when people still knew how to write a melody.

        In a Free Land

        Pink turns to blue

        Green eyes

song of fascination with someone attractive, like a punk ballad but with clear classic rock'n'roll melodic phrases

Don't want to know if you are lonely

this interplay between the syncopated rhythm and the passionate vocal phrasing is really cool
and it has this upbeat energetic vibe even though the subject is supposed to be something negative

        Makes no sense at all

upbeat song that already sounds like much of the 90s alt-rock, but this was done like back in the 80s, those bands from the 90s copied them

        Sorry somehow

another soulful ballad with a great melody that you can't forget

        How to skin a cat

        nonsensical rambling piece

        Fattie

an ambient drone song done back in 1986!
there were so many artists who started doing stuff like this 20 years later

        Flexible flyer

        melodic contemplative ballad

Some might also recommend Diane or more of their hardcore stuff, but I like their melodic output more.
And those songs that have transcended time really well and you could still listen to them or play them and they'd sound great.
Too bad a lot of their stuff was so badly recorded and produced that it sounds like there's no sound imaging.

    >What are some examples of artists that have a reputation for being “important” or “significant” but who can safely be ignored because they only “matter” to stupid people with shitty taste who themselves do not matter?
the PTLM general poster can be safely ignored

Why people worship so much her?
she's a great singer and composer
and inspired some other artists like Patti Smith and Carole King
but i don't think she deserves be on top 10
