What are some examples of artists that have a reputation for being “important” or “significant” but who can safely be ignored because they only “matter” to stupid people with shitty taste who themselves do not matter?
What are some examples of artists that have a reputation for being “important” or “significant” but who can safely be ignored because they only “matter” to stupid people with shitty taste who themselves do not matter?
Kendrick Lamar
This is a very good answer but I can’t help but be suspicious that you arrived at this answer by way of already being a rap-listening white homosexual who promoted the very same culture and values that lead to Kendrick Lamar being perceived as “great” in the first place
For example you probably have gotten “chills” or even cried tears because you were so deeply inspired by a black male’s rap lyrics before. You would also seriously consider getting certain rap lyrics written by a black male tattooed on your white skin permanently because they have a special “meaning” to you, and you can recite those specific lyrics now on request
How close am I?
Not at all. Lamar is just lyrically overbearing and musically repetitive. He's mediocre.
Right but only a rap fan would have these opinions in the first place. If you aren’t a rap fan it would go without saying that rap is a silly unimportant genre that mainly exists due to cultural and political reasons rather than actual musical merit
I mostly dislike rap very much and dismiss most of it for its sub-musicality. Lamar, within this microuniverse, stands out as an example of mediocrity being hailed by other mediocre types.
you sound unwell
Sounds like someone's projecting
Yeah I’m secretly the one who likes rap. Sounds like another homosexual who thinks the word “projecting” is just something you say on the internet whenever you lose an argument
you're pretty close to /misc/ racebait territory is where you are, weirdo
Nope, I’m bi and find black guys hot. Permanently barred from any /misc/ ideology. I simply notice and comment on very real socio-psychological cuckolding dynamics between different races
And the average white American male rap fan does absolutely have a latent, unexpressed cuckold mentality/sexual worship of black males as this bizarre Oedipal father figure
i don't like rap or care about what race you are or who you like to fuck, skeevy, i'm concerned for your mental health and weirded out by your posts
you don't have to fucking link your posts to me. both of those were mine. final verdict: projection of sexual perversions on others
Kys redditspacing iToddler go fuck yourself
>you don’t conform to the designated posting style of a website for kissless adult virgins!
Yes
That is by design
homosexual
nagger reddit spacing is line breaks before your post. Not separate paragraphs.
"I'm extremely perceptive" he thought to himself.
Modest Mouse is another great example. Silly jokey music sung with an ironic gay hipster Reddit voice; wow, so smart and interesting!
that’s only on the major label shit. You probably wouldn’t like their good stuff though. It’s not for buzzword spewing homosexuals
>yeah you’re spot on, but only their main, primary musical output that everyone knows about sucks in that way
>you have to really do a deep dive to see that they’re actually NOT homosexuals
Man when you put it like that, I sure feel stupid now
I don't like Husker Du but unfortunately they were very influential and you can hear them in a lot of later, better bands.
>later, better bands
Like what? The Foo Fucking Fighters?
Nah, Kenickie
The content of the music of 80's acts like sonic youth, pixies, pavement, dinosaur jr... is simmilar of contemporary indie artists at the time. So why the "official history" is trying to sell them like game-changer groups? They were part of a movement but far from being singular musical propositions.
They aren't even idyosincratic acts like beefheart, bo diddley, can or a few of late 70's post punk acts.
great song
Hüsker Dü's music is overrated but their influence is not
nice copypasta, and all of these actually seminal artists were directly influenced by Hüsker Dü.
First of the Last Calls, Celebrated Summer
>First of the Last Calls, Celebrated Summer
Also good recommendations
Sonic Youth has been making distinct before Husker Du. Husker Du's influence on Pixies is minimal (yeah they were in the casting call for the bassist, who gives a shit when anyone with ears can't make the connection). Maybe that might be true for Dinosaur Jr their style of music is more morose
>Sonic Youth has been making distinct before Husker Du
they still had a change of style that was influenced by them
>Husker Du's influence on Pixies is minimal
simply and obviously wrong
Like Nirvana, Therapy?, Greenday
All these bands have had their sound influenced by Husker Du
A song like Sliver by Nirvana is an example of this fast melodic riffing with syncopated rhythm and melodic shouted vocals that was Husker's signature sound.
>influenced emocore
>emocore created midwest emo
>sunny day real estate directly or indirectly influenced every indie artist from 2000s onwards
also influenced every great post-hardcore act from 90s and 00s, which is the greatest genre of all time.
influenced shoegaze, influenced indie, influenced college rock, and you're retarded.
Exactly. It’s like people always chime in with “but they do matter to ME!”
Yeah but…..who are YOU? Someone who sucks. Do you get it now?
Also, for a different spin, every artist who sounds like them is total shit, so we'd be better off if they never existed because then we wouldn't have Nickelback, Seether, or Puddle of Mudd.
Nickelback is objectively a good rock band. Billy Corgan himself, a personal friend and musical contemporary of Cobain himself, said Chad Kroeber is a “great songwriter”.
Just because you personally do not like a genre does not mean it lacks merit. Calling Nickelback NPC is inherently NPC. You could never structurally write a ballad like “this is how you remind me”
I can't stand NIckelback but to say they can't write songs is just stupid.
who cares what Billy Corgan has to say when he's made some of the worst alternative music in the past 20 years.
based Nickelback defender. The 'back isn't my thing, but I unironically enjoy Hoobastank from time to time.
Agreed tbh. Doesn't necessarily make they themselves bad but fuck are they actually quite boring. Should have been Skin Yard.
>Nickelback
they're unironically good tho
The most overrated musician (using the term very loosely) of all time is Kendrick Lamar.
Why do you write your opinion as if it’s a fact?
It’s not an opinion though. In a TV sitcom you have the main cast and then you have supporting characters or extras. Husker Du, their fans, and the entire genre they influenced are background characters. They are of niche importance and have no influence on the greater streams and currents of rock music
It’s like Husker Du is a substitute teacher. Their job is to fill in the gaps when nothing really important is happening
It’s a containment genre for fags
He says, while engaging. Fucking idiot.
Yeah emotional punk fizzled out after Zen Arcade
Thank you. Emo/pop punk was the death rattle of guitar music
No I'd say that was a mere symptom of rock's death. It perished, strangled by the hands of the money grubbing industry, which homogenized every extant bit of rock 'n' roll left in the late 90s until there was basically no reason to listen to it anymore. Rock was a rotting corpse before MCR ever hit the charts, bands like Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20, and whoever did the Breakfast at Tiffany's song assured this.
Ok but even so, there were other primary influences on emo other than Husker Du such as Fugazi
Fugazi was surely influential, but man everything with Baldy MacGaye on it sounds outmoded now
nah the reason rock is a rotting corpse is because people say stupid shit like this and rock fans are the most dissatisfied music fans ever
sticking to the classics is making things worse.
No, the mainstream just doesn't support rock. That's literally all it is.
I stalk radio station playlists, mediabase charts and spotify charts and the san diego concert scene is pretty good. This isn't entirely true.
Last time I used spotify they were considering rappers under their "rock" category
Looking at the "Rock This" chart and its mostly normal, (Lovejoy, Bully, Linkin Park, Bring me the Horizon, Momma, Paramore, Blur) so what if some trap rock attitude or rap rock fusion was in there or a mixture of pop-subgenres. Rock has evolved, people experiment with a clash of styles now. It's just how it is lol.
rock is more of a term if anything, an attitude, a movement of your body. But even then, you can't tell me none of it is rock on this chart.
I can also look at alt now and its mostly normal shit with a few zoomercore shit.
Rock is a genre you dumb homosexual. Rap can never be rock. It's called being a poser. Trap isn't goth, or metal, or punk either. Never will be.
>He says, while engaging. Fucking idiot.
I mean when people call albums "important" or whatever.
you know that's completely untrue
>It’s not an opinion though
Nah it is. Stay mad lol.
>my opinions are facts, i see other humans as npcs
19 year old loner chud spotted
See
It doesn't matter what you think or say.
The big names in alt-rock have quoted Husker as a major influence on them.
So if you ever listened to Pixies, Nirvana or Greenday, you listened to a music that couldn't have existed without that influence
I would be absolutely fine if Pixies or Greenday never existed
The main current of rock music…from Elvia, to Rolling Stones, to Zeppelin and Sabbath, to Aerosmith and KISS, to Motley Crüe and Guns n Roses, to Oasis and Queens of the Stone Age would have continued intact, and that is all that matters. Faggy offshoot emo genres are completely disposable. Throw Fugazi in there too. Waiting Room is a shit song
Also what is with that dyke bass player from the Pixies and her disgusting wet hair gel look? It’s fucking gross. No reason for her to be in any band or be paid money for anything
>what is with that dyke bass player from the Pixies and her disgusting wet hair gel look? It’s fucking gross. No reason for her to be in any band or be paid money for anything
She wrote some landmark alt-rock songs like Cannonball and Saints.
Not a big fan of hers and I think Breeders are terrible live, but they have some good songs.
>I would be absolutely fine if Pixies or Greenday never existed
Lots of peeps would disagree with you. I'm no fan of either but some Pixies stuff is great and again influenced a lot of bands.
>Queens of the Stone Age would have continued intact
I think QOTSA were influenced by Husker too. At least surely when Dave Grohl was in QOTSA. But I can't imagine that anguished sound with heavy melodic riffage without some influence from that.
You could write an email to some of your heroes from those bands maybe one of them will react to your opinions and tell you whether they were influenced by Husker or not. You'd be surprised. Sure they were a small and obscure band which became a cult band, they never made it to mainstream or were close to that toward the end, but they're widely known and appreciated among music makers.
Gigantic is a good song
>Aerosmith and KISS, Motley Crüe and Guns n Roses, Oasis and Queens of the Stone Age matter
lmfao
>pretending to laugh online
>classic rock doesn’t matter but whatever short-haircut low T guitar rock you listen to does
some classic rock does, butt rock doesn't
classic rock is categorically not butt rock you fool
they're not classic rock then
why are you on LULZ?
why?
>They are of niche importance and have no influence on the greater streams and currents of rock music
you're either trolling or retarded
>talking about life as if it's a tv show
or autistic
I disengage whenever people talk about music like this
but you post proves that to be untrue
OP here, sorry meant to post this. Honest mistake.
REM influenced almost every alternative rock band like Radiohead
REM is responsible for creating the jingly-jangly arpeggiated chords sound of the alt-rock that later became the blueprint for landfill indie
Husker Du created the fast and melodic riffing with melodic vocals sound blueprint for the alt-rock of the 90s (Nirvana, Therapy, Stiltskin, Greenday)
/mu/core
Biggie
>ugly vocals
>fat fuck
>one album
>recorded material stretched to an extreme limit by Puff Daddy
Still not as memorable as Tupac
> tupac
>memorable
name one Tupac song that people know that isn't California Love*
*and California Lobve isn't even his song
Kate Bush
Thank you. If anything she should be relegated to “the woman who sung that song on Stranger Things”. That’s literally all she should be recognised for. One good song that isn’t even very good.
>t. Zoomer who has never listened to her other work
I listened to half of a full Kate Bush album just the other day. I remember stopping to consciously take note of just how absolutely worthless the filler tracks were. I mean there’s filler, and there’s padding your albums with layers of sonic dogshit.
>I was filtered and I just don’t know it yet
Trips of truth.
Both of those posts are mine
You don’t believe Kate Bush has important music otherwise you would have linked to an example and defended it by now, it’s just a slightly more sophisticated equivalent of K-pop simping
Yikes do you just not like good music. Do you even have a good reason for me to take your posts seriously?
So weird that you can’t just link to one song and be like “I like the sequence that starts at 2:38 because the harmony of her lyrics with the synth sounds very heartfelt and moving”
I can do this on request with any song I like. You are simping. You would not appreciate any Kate Bush music if she looked like Lizzo.
I will take that as a no.
>even when you spell it out to him he still triples down on refusing to provide an example of good Kate Bush music
“If you can’t t show it, then you don’t know it.” Congratulations, you’ve just been caught red handed pretending to like Kate Bush’s music.
Twopac
Shit takes all around this thread. The correct answer is Frank Zappa by the way.
>Zappa
One of my friends collected his albums on vinyl because “he’s so quirky and zany”
And yet never listened to his work. So we put on one of the albums, as I’d never heard his work either, I was suspicious to begin with.
And yeah it really was complete shit
That’s every Zappa/Beefheart fan
>”maybe if I collect and display these albums, people will notice me, like me and think I’m cool!”
It’s just a fundamental misunderstanding of social cues and human psychology. Similar to how beta males think being a nice guy simp will make women attracted to them
>thread of no lifes seething because they hate artists everyone else loves
go back to listening to the fish head album
Itt constrariasm
radiohead
ITT Delusionals
honestly half of these posts seem written by the same guy to me
Pic related. Mediocre garbage artist for no lifes.
This. My god I have no idea how anyone can like him other than to just enjoy him ironically like
>haha binga moo so funny
i've never seen someone so filtered by something as easily loveable as nick drake's music
YIKES
TERRIBLE OPINION
Nah he's pretty bad. Only really liked by pretentious chuds with bad tastes.
>”you’re wrong and you should listen to me saying you’re wrong but I can’t provide a reason why”
Clinically reliable indicator of low IQ.
Basically all rap.
Rap has been the greatest swindle pulled on the normiesphere since hurr we need to fight Hitler.
Imagine having a bunch of ghetto apes spitting angry words in a mic and thinking that's music hahaha
Husker Du by comparison has a few really good songs. Most of their stuff is boring and sounds dated today, but you can find like 8 songs that are better than anything that came out in the last few years. Back when people still knew how to write a melody.
Agreed on rap
What’s a good Husker Du song
Punch Drunk
Bricklayer
Afraid of Being Wrong
Signals From Above
Target
Obnoxious
In a Free Land
What Do I Want
M.I.C.
Try those out for a start.
If you like those I can recommend you more.
I'm this guy
Pink turns to blue
Green eyes
song of fascination with someone attractive, like a punk ballad but with clear classic rock'n'roll melodic phrases
Don't want to know if you are lonely
this interplay between the syncopated rhythm and the passionate vocal phrasing is really cool
and it has this upbeat energetic vibe even though the subject is supposed to be something negative
Makes no sense at all
upbeat song that already sounds like much of the 90s alt-rock, but this was done like back in the 80s, those bands from the 90s copied them
Sorry somehow
another soulful ballad with a great melody that you can't forget
How to skin a cat
nonsensical rambling piece
Fattie
an ambient drone song done back in 1986!
there were so many artists who started doing stuff like this 20 years later
Flexible flyer
melodic contemplative ballad
Some might also recommend Diane or more of their hardcore stuff, but I like their melodic output more.
And those songs that have transcended time really well and you could still listen to them or play them and they'd sound great.
Too bad a lot of their stuff was so badly recorded and produced that it sounds like there's no sound imaging.
Well, I'm
and those are decent recommendations
youre dumb
in case you didnt know yet
you = dumb
ok
>What are some examples of artists that have a reputation for being “important” or “significant” but who can safely be ignored because they only “matter” to stupid people with shitty taste who themselves do not matter?
the PTLM general poster can be safely ignored
I’m fully aware that I’m freestyling in this thread, don’t try to discredit my other work
Every single hip hop artist.
A large chunk of punk/hardcore punk artists.
>I have a high degree of adherence to the conventions that are perceived to be endorsed by music fans and critics
ok
fuck off
There is no reason to listen to Wipers, just listen to The Fall or Fear.
the reason is that Wipers are awesome and The Fall and Fear are fucking garbage
those bands don't sound anything alike
Fall fans feel a constant need to eat shit and tell people about their coprophagia
Husker Du was the best band of the 80s, full stop.
duster
Why people worship so much her?
she's a great singer and composer
and inspired some other artists like Patti Smith and Carole King
but i don't think she deserves be on top 10
