>possibly one of the most technically skilled and based programmers of our time
>built an entire OS, compiler and all, by himself, in just 100k lines of code
>hated both linus torvalds and linux, claimed that it could never be introduced as a consumer-grade operating system, made jokes about it constantly insulting its community
How do we cope with this?
we cant.... we lost. TempleOS dominates the Linux market share
>could never be introduced as consumer grade OS
MacOS is
Windows is
and even Linux is with a coat of paint called chromeOS
Terry was a schizophrenic and was bound to have takes that were just wrong.
I don't think he ever spoke on MacOS but he did say that Windows was suitable as the default consumer-grade OS. There's a video on YouTube where he compares Linux to a semi-truck and Windows to a car. He claimed that Linux was too complicated by design and that it would never be suitable for the broader market.
>chromeOS
This proves he was right because normies will only use linux if it's literally dumbed down to a glorified version of android. They will never use pacman, they have to use "apps" and shit instead.
>Linux too complicated
>windows is not too complicated
Kek even the people at Microsoft barely understand windows anymore and just plaster over it with barely any cohesion. Yeah Linux is complicated internally, but that is because it does a lot and makes a lot of guarantees. TempleOS just choose to give up on the internet because Terry knew his OS would end up exactly where Linux was at if he had to worry about security.
>chrome proves the point
ChromeOS is a successful consumer distro. Yeah some thing were made simpler for consumer use, but that doesn't really prove his point. He made a claim that never be introduced as a consumer operating system and he was proven wrong. Its like bill gates saying the internet was a fad or that 32 bot operating systems were good enough. There are cases when smart people end up being wrong.
>TempleOS just choose to give up on the internet because Terry knew his OS would end up exactly where Linux was at if he had to worry about security.
I thought he didn't include it just because he wanted to stick to his self-imposed lines of code limit and that was an obvious thing to skip, he didn't have strong feelings about network connectivity in TempleOS.
There's a clip of him being inteviewed in a McDonalds where he explains it pretty well.
He basically says that the internet was after his time and that he would let "the kids" do all that, he was more specialized in 70/80s programming like C64 where you didn't have to mess with networking at all.
didn't he use ubuntu?
>The purpose of Internet Explorer is to download Firefox.
>possibly one of the most technically skilled and based programmers of our time
Have you ever written a compiler, have you ever written an interrupt routin? homosexual. Have you ever written an interrupt routine, you little homosexual? No, you haven't, because you're a homosexual, okay?
>Have you ever written a compiler,
Yes, half a dozen. I'm working on one more right now
>why
Lots of different ideas to try on both frontend and backend, easier to just redo it than to try a different approach in an existing system, simple as it is
>have you ever written an interrupt routin?
Obviously? Plus isn't that done in literally every OS class ever?
He did use Ubuntu LTS and run TempleOS in a VM. You know something is good OS when you develop it in a VM and use something else for your actual PC.
Yes he used ubuntu but he's on record saying that linux was like a "1970s mainframe" and that it was too complicated for most consumers, therefore people who aren't technically skilled (like him) would have to use windows.
TempleOS was really more aimed at being something like a kids first computer OS.
It was a consumer grade cnc machine not industrial
>have to use windows
Post source for this. I have never heard him say single good thing about Windows or suggesting using it even once.
About 1:30 in.
So his only real argument was that file permissions doesn't belong in an OS for "normies". He didn't say anything about Windows. Windows also has file permissions that make everything equally difficult for user. Of course only difference is that Linux is more secure and privacy-oriented while also can be user-friendly as you want. It's also free as in beer. Something like Ubuntu LTS live-cd loaded into ram is better for end user to browse web or open documents from USB drive than Windows will ever be. Only reason why Windows is used is because normies don't have a choice. If they want a computer, they don't even know they don't have a choice. Only option is "to buy a computer". You can't choose operating system if all stores have only Windows installed. Also normies don't install Windows or Linux.
Well, I don't want Linux to be "consumer-grade". I want the Linux userbase to be small and elitist. When I got introduced to Linux I didn't frenetically write on forums about my issues, I would use a tool called "Google". I installed Gentoo with zero outside help but from the manual. I didn't know anything about programming at the time. If you want to use Linux and experience its beauty you should start learning it by yourself. Also, if the community gets too big things will get shitty (They already are, with all the CoC's getting implemented)
>I would use a tool called "Google"
that tool doesn't exist anymore
>possibly one of the most technically skilled and based programmers of our time
But he isn't. You like to think he is because the narrative of a schizophrenic guy who is so smart that he can use his mad genius to destroy the competition. You project yourself on to him because you think he's an epic underdog.
Terry was competent and his hobby system has some interesting ideas like moving images in the command line and complete user control, but it's just a cool hobby system whose development was greatly impeded by his poor mental health. Contrary to whatever LULZ believes, schizophrenia is not a based and redpilled sigma male power, it is an incredibly scary and crippling disability.
>But he isn't.
>proceeds to explain why he is
>uses a c64 to do his calculus homework in high school, gets caught but his program is so technically impressive his teacher lets him use it anyway
>gets a job almost right out of highschool working at ticketmaster while in uni (anyone in the tech sector today will assure you how crazy this is)
>quits ticketmaster after 6 years and writing a compiler from scratch
>literally designs the first CNC machine in his apartment as a side hobby
>gets schizophrenia, proceeds to make his own version of C, builds an entirely custom operating system from the ground up by himself with no libraries or frameworks
if terry wasn't schizo he'd certainly be in the fortune 500. you fail to realize that he was on track to be successful even before his illness took over.
The first CNC machine was made in the 50s. Terry Davis was born in 1969.
different types of cnc machine dumbass. im talking about the gentree looking kind like picrel. even if they existed, a consumer-grade version that could be controlled with a PC was unheard of in the 90s.
Both of you are dumbasses, CNC was founded in '89: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%2BC_Music_Factory
Compare that to Von Neumann.
We're mortals compared to Terry and ants to Neumann.
>(anyone in the tech sector today will assure you how crazy this is)
The exact opposite but hey, keep lapping infl*encer history revisionism.
designs the first CNC machine in his apartment as a side hobby
Oh no... it's retarded 🙁
>it's just a cool hobby system
What's wrong with that though? We could use more cool hobby systems these days, instead of everything being a rehash.
I don't think he means there's anything wrong with that, merely that the narrative around it is bullshit and greatly overblown.
>literally, personally contacted by God
>nah he is just schizophrenic
Did God tell him to commit suicide?
he didn't commit suicide, he was killed and it was all because of you.
You think you're being self-righteous but what you're really doing is calling him a retard. You've been following this simple minded pattern for several years now.
>possibly one of the most technically skilled
>he wasn’t
He was, but not for reasons OP says. The CIA wanted an extremely small and efficient OS to hide as a backdoor at the hardware level embedded on all IME coprocessors on all Intel chips. They needed just one person to code it, otherwise the risk of exposure through someone talking was too great. So they hired Terry to code it, then scrambled his brain afterwards so he couldn't speak of what he did. But he still sort of remembered, he just interpreted the former instructions from the CIA as being demands from Mr. God. So he coded TempleOS for Mr. God, which is just a total rewrite of the same OS that's hidden on every IME coprocessor in every Intel CPU. If they killed him it's because his real memories started to come back and they couldn't let him speak about it.
I have lost all respect for this man the same way people have lost respect for Undertale and Five Nights At Freddy’s. It’s the same fucking people, every fucking time.
>discovered LULZ yesterday through a youtube video or has been browsing since 2018
>edgy kid or officially rubber stamped LULZ tranny who unabashedly uses and praises shit like nix, plan9, and other shit they weren’t around for
>posts the same stale shit every thread, x sisters we lost, i kneel, itoddler, java runs on three billion devices
>sincerely believes they aren’t the next generation of skids
>thinks LULZ is a hacker hideout and not a LULZ subreddit
>empty github page with puke smith forks (mental retard for the new crowd)
I fucking hate all of you. Leave
I'm a zoomer. Does that make you mad? Does it upset you? Are you going to cry, anon? Little KHHV NEET needs his pacifier because the kiddos are making Terry Davis shitposts?
ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM
TempleOS looks like an operating system for someone who wants to play with operating systems with their hands on the kernel's balls.
Windows is for normal people who don't give a rats ass about privacy because they don't care. Most people don't care.
Developers like *nix because most development environments are easier to manage with a *nix-like environment. Even on windows people use WSL or mingw to get bash, coreutils and maybe executing stuff from apt.
tl;dr load your machine with whatever the fuck you want. If you're cheap and your mom only needs to browse the internet just fucking install something that works no sweat like fedora or debian or something.
I can't say if combined with his mental illness made him the great mind he was or took away the potential great mind he could subliminally have had.
both linus torvalds and linux
Linux has been into the business longer than terry has, he is the most active maintainer of Linux and publishes commits nearly everyday. Linux defines a userspace (unlike TempleOS), and it has to be designed to be run on many different CPUs, where if there is a bug on any of CPUs, it may break the userspace or even panic the kernel. Linus has pushed linux to the wild and now he has to deal with the chaos of PRs and reviews to make sure Linux works the standard way across different builds and different hardware. Linux also has the burden of kernel space modules which has spanned across a giant tree of development, he has to make sure the main kernel and loaded modules recognized by the kernel is not affected by any other kernel space program bugging out.
Terry could make TempleOS so simple and tiny footprint because the development never pushed into end-usecases for to have found possible bugs running on real hardware for real applications, if it has to support different arch, different compiles, multiple ABIs and kernel modules for ever varying hardware, he would have no choice but to unironically follow the path linux or other UNIX derived OSes took. His compiler can not be cross-compiled under other OSes and other ABIs, nor does he have the burden to comply to ISO C Standards or make a choice whether something needs a implementation if the standard has not defined it, he has to ship a binary distribution of his compiler before you can ever compile the Holy-C compiler with your modified source. Some might argue it is a good thing, because it restricts you from compiling the OS on only itself as a host OS, but it really limits you from encountering bugs you could never have imagined.
Clicking confirm on someone else's work is not actual work. Linus hasn't actually contributed to linux since 1997.
>his OS can't even speak tongues at the press of a button
never noticed the pathetic black sun in the background, is that an edit?
God actually meant 16bit color (1 bit for alpha) not 16 color.
And when he said 320x240 resolution, he meant that you could also support 640x480 and 800x600
>entire OS, compiler and all, by himself, in just 100k lines of code
how wasteful. this mad lad did it in only 12,000 lines of code, and it ran on real hardware not just in a VM.
I fucking love niklaus wirth, too.
i hope he was saved. he certainly wasn't a paragon of christ's love but he had chutzpah! oy vey, the conviction!
>guy graduates from a shitty school
>gets a shitty job at a shitty company
>has mental breakdown
>makes an incredibly shitty os
>gets strung out on drugs and alcohol and gets killed by a train
>was also a racist piece of shit
Wow, what a fucking genius.
We don't talk about you here!
>was also a racist piece of shit
opinion discarded, nagger, reddit is down the hall and to the left
Fucking glow in the dark cia naggers getting offended at the word nagger. inb4 its a tr00n projecting.
Terry also did porn.
>built an entire OS, compiler and all, by himself, in just 100k lines of code
A lot of people have done this kind of thing
There is a difference between having developed the principle and having developed everything.
You can write a whole program yourself just with the OPCODE MOV. However, it is clear to everyone that this is not a full-fledged program.
So far maybe a handful of men have written proper operating systems.
A computer is about the universal binary language.
Good Hard and Soft-ware benifits this language and you will expierence true development freedom.
TERRY DAVIS IS JORDAN PETERSON
>rewrote his 8MB x86 bios backdoor when the glows ditched him for the minix one
Not impressive but still better than 99% of ni/g/gers
