they know how to make a progressive rock/metal sound but just fuck it up with the gay pop sounding shit
Try listening to PT's first few albums, I personally think their early psychedelic / spacey phase was the best. Everything started to go downhill after Stupid Dream, but I do quite like their newest album. Seeing them live in NYC last year was one of the greatest things I've ever experienced in my life.
This. Skipped old albums back in the days because they didn't sound like new ones, but recently found out they're the way more interesting
Lightbulb Sun is their best
the new album sucks
Sound, really? It’s just this clean sterile modern shit
they know how to make a progressive rock/metal sound but just fuck it up with the gay acoustic sounding shit
their "gay acoustic shit" is 100 times better than their wannabe metal shit
twiddle twiddle twangy twang plink plonk bring blonk i hate acoustic guitar
how are you enjoying 5th grade?
i loved them when i was a le sad year old. still love them but they do make me cringe often
pretty much this, they're the perfect band for that one period of your life but then you just move on and pretty much don't listen to them ever again because why would you
That describes most of the LULZcore bands this board obsesses over
I always wonder what kind of music people who make posts like this listen to now
EDM is great
for me it was 25 because i missed it a 17.
That was dream theater for me
Rich coming from a board which has unironic Linkin Park and MCR threads now
>unironic
don't be too sure
Mars Volta is the epitome of this, I've come back to all the meme bands I wouldn't have listened to without the internet but goddamn you would need to pay me to sit through anything besides maybe some tracks from their debut
I have searched for and never found an instrumental version of their albums. I just can’t with that screech.
Why everyone here think that their opinion is the standard?
they know how to make a progressive rock/metal sound but just fuck it up with the gay progressive rock/metal sounding shit
One of those bands that really knows how to play their instruments well, but just makes boring music with them.

What the fuck is this thread
Porcupine Tree are one of the best rock bands with Radiohead, their style is varied and they are fantastic live
Zoomers can't get into +3 minutes songs
try to go one minute without thinking about zoomers
>Porcupine Tree are one of the best rock bands with Radiohead
KEK
Cope, Sneed Wilson
>LULZ user finding out other people have different opinions
I tried but I really don’t get it.
I don’t even hear neo prog in there, it’s just pop dross
No-man is the best Steven Wilson project
No-man is just a psyop to make you love Israel (just like 95% of Wilson's music)
That's Blackfield
Signify and Fear of a Blank Planet are great. In Absentia's pretty good too. I can take or leave the rest except for Stupid Dream, that one sucks.
Wilson is clearly a clever guy, some of his remasters are fantastic (e.g. Tales for Topographic Oceans for the most part, although im not the biggest fan of how he cleaned up wakeman's harsher synth tones), but he can't write a song to save his life. If you really want to hear prog with modern production just listen to his gentle giant or yes remasters, you'll probably realize that you should have just been doing that all along.
Wilson can absolutely write a song...if it's prog-tinged pop. Even the "metal" stuff is just that but with distorted guitar textures. But a song like Prodigal is perfectly well written.
>he can't write a song to save his life

right, instead of The Future Bites. gotcha.
Gentle Giant poster here. Thanks for the recs. Stranger by the minute is pretty good, almost britpop-like. Lips of Ashes is also a solid impression of the acoustic bits in Yes songs. Everything else sounds weirdly Christian Rock-ish. It's like prog Breaking Benjamin. Or sometimes even Creed. I do appreciate the yes and GG influenced vocal harmonies that are on most of these but ultimately I just think Steve's writing style isn't for me. I also think the guitar and drum compositions are pretty lazy - again, weirdly generic and almost christian rock sounding. I get that Gavin Harrison is supposed to be an amazing drummer, but I find he rarely does anything interesting to me. Even if it's not to my taste though, I'll still always respect Porcupine Tree for getting redditors and alt rock kids into prog - hopefully it becomes a gateway drug to the truth.
For those in the thread who haven't heard it, check this Gentle Giant tune out - Wilson was definitely a big fan of it.

THIS ISN'T ME MODS I'M BEING DEFAMED DO SOMETHING
I don't like his remixes for the most part especially his Gentle Giant and Yes ones. The Jethro Tull remixes are the best things he's ever done tho
By day, Steven Wilson leads the most boring progressive rock band that has ever lived. By night, he ruins great albums of the past with his horrible remixes for his braindead fans to ejaculate all over. Great guy.
ITT Tasteless Fantano Drones
this is exactly what it is.
are you saying fantano hates porcupine tree or something?
he famously gets filtered by prog all the time, even entry level prog stuff. his review of one of steven wilson's solo albums was retarded
What on earth is this thread? SW/PT make great music and I thought that was a popular opinion...
Oh, yeah, that would explain it
He's always had a completely unfounded hate boner for Steven Wilson in general, yeah. I don't even watch much of his stuff, but I do remember this clown ass review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP7tl9-luZE
SW is a cool guy and all, but how come he always has his bare feet out when he plays? Is that really necessary?

If Steven Wilson got to fight Brian Wilson, who would win
Their output is garbage
BUT
Voyage 34 is amazing tbh, clearly some divine intervention going on there
when I was 17 I remember my favourites being Signify and Stupid Dream, but I haven't listened to them in over a decade, every time I've tried to give them a chance there's always something too embarrassing either in the music or the lyrics and I just have to turn it off
Have you tried Steven's Solo work? He always tried something different on each album
And while their comeback was not amazing it was solid
I listened to Insurgentes and remember being underwhelmed. but that was around the point that I was losing interest in PT and becoming obsessed with Modest Mouse
>Modest Mouse
Haven't made a good album since We Were Dead
I wasn't listening to the albums they made after that. What's the point of this comment
Grace for Drowning and The Raven are more conventional prog albums, and they're both way better than most PT albums. Insurgentes isn't even prog to me, it's more like dark ambient drone rock.
Trains
Lazarus
Anesthetize
I drive the Hearse
These are incredible songs.
I just can't listen through whole albums straight tbh
Sorry but I think Riverside and Kings X just trumps Porcupine tree in pretty much every way, even dream theater is more interesting to me.
what do any of those bands have to do with each other
Zoomers and boomers think they are prog
Because marketing
A lot of their songs sound much better live compared to their studio recordings. I wasn't a big fan of C/C until I heard it live, for example.
i LIKE porcupine tree!
>retard sees other people have different opinions
>WHAT DE FUCK IS THIS THRED
It would be like going to LULZ and seeing a thread like "chocolate sucks actually", and everyone is agreeing and saying shit like "yeah it tastes like ass"
It's just confusing is all
Sorry LULZ isn't a hivemind. Maybe reddit's more your pace if you want everyone to have the same exact opinion. People are allowed to post opinions anonymously here.
Being surprised that the majority of people in a thread dislike something you thought was very popular is not the same thing as "wanting everyone to have the exact same opinion", you drooling retard
I liked that one PT song with the really slick bassline, can't remember the name unfortunately
I never really understood the obsession with them, they are like Coldplay with occasional heavy moments. Deadwing is the best I heard
dumb
Bro, what? There are individual PT songs that contain more musical complexity than Coldplay's entire discography, and I'm not being ironic or pretentious when I say that.
Stars Die is great one
