Options for when you can't pay for a 10kusd emergency surgery for a cat

>Be cat
>sees trash
>awooga.exe
>ate some trash
>clogged guts
>attempt to get it out of him immediately but failed
>go to vet appointment right away and ask if they can pump him full of laxatives or stomach pump
>No stomach pump
>okay, laxatives it is
>spend the entire night with my cat giving doses of laxatives, I don't want to lose him too
>no shit, no dice.
>Surgery cost was estimated to me at 10 thousand fucking dollars
I'm at a loss for words, I can't believe it's that much now. He had surgery last year and it was only 4 grand.

What options can I explore? I heard about re-home programs and I'd rather my little buddy be alive and sad than dead and sad.

give him away...that's the only option anon
if you can't afford his surgery, then please rehome him, he may be in hands of someone who can give him the treatment he needs
i also have a male cat, if he suddenly became sick and i couldn't afford the prices for medicine/surgeries i'd rehome him, i had two cats before but i gave away the other one cause i wasn't able to provide for them...the guilt kills me to this day but i know they got another chance

I plan to rehome him if all else fails.. I can carry guilt. I carry loads of weight. I'd feel worse if he died at 1 year old.

I don't have any advice for you but I'm sorry this is happening

Thank you anon, I appreciate your sentiment. I raised him since he was born

I'm going to break protocol here and send you to plebbit and specifically /r/AskVet. I doubt you can get any help here, but I will tell you that price sounds insane and may be due to the fact you're dealing with an emergency vet? Doesn't sound like it but otherwise makes no sense. Try shopping around, traveling even. Post your area code, maybe you can get a recommendation. Also try the Humane Society, they have clinics and surgeons though possibly just for spay & neuter.

Laxatives seem like a bad idea to me. Give your cat time to work it through with normal intestinal activity. Is the cat in agony? It seems too soon to give up on him passing it. Again I am not a vet, seek out professional opinions here.

Sorry for your situation. I will say a prayer for you and your sick friend. Good luck.

The vet that quoted me 10k was a clinic that I had an appointment with regarding my dog but due to events I shuffled them around.
They prescribed the laxatives, debris is in the lower intestines from what xray shows.

I don't care anymore if I get doxxed or whatever I just want my little boy to feel better.
      98168.

I'm speaking to vet colleges too just incase they can offer the surgery for cheaper.

OP here, I have an update on my situation.

I have done some morally questionable actions and have sourced enough money for his surgery.

I have also found another vet that has licensed surgeon that has given me an estimate of 2000-3500 which is significantly more reasonable and a cost I can afford.

To those who claim Darwinisim either are too retarded to think of any other solution or don't realize that natural selection only works in nature. Not an artifical environment such as a home.

My cat will return tomorrow healed. In the meantime I've prepared the entire house to prevent a situation like this arising again.

Thank you to the anons who took time conjuring actual responses.

natural selection is at work for every animal that reproduces/ dies.
It happens irrespective of the environment being natural or artificial.

Glad you did it. My buddy passed recently, and shortly before he died I was looking into a loan shark to pay for him to go to an icu. He went into a critical state as I was on the phone with the place and I had to put him down within 5 minutes or he would have died alone in the back room of the vet. I miss him every single day and out of all the things I regret, almost signing an extremely predatory loan contract is not one of them. I'd do it in a heartbeat if money could bring him back. Good luck with the results.

If you could afford such spending with no big problems, that would be fine. But

    >$10k surgery
    >for a fucking pet
You really need to get your priorities straight. That’s people levels of money. I love my cat to death, but if he needed a surgery that cost 10k I wouldn’t have a second’s hesitation in having him put to sleep instead. People lack so much genuine human interaction anymore that they assign human priorities of value to their animals. It doesn’t make you a good pet owner, it makes you a mentally disturbed individual.

It’s not a matter of being able to afford it, it’s a matter of wasting that much money on something that, at the end of the day, is still an animal. I couldn’t in good consciensce spend that much money on any animal unless it was vital to my livelihood. There are people out there suffering from diseases and disorders that 10k of surgery could fix, but here you are spending it on your pet. There’s just something wrong with that.

Depends on what they are but if it’s small or a wrapper or something have you tried giving him 1-2 teaspoons of Vaseline. My cat also eats random shit like wrappers and tiny pieces of his cat toys and Vaseline always works. You should know that it’ll still take about 1-3 days if the Vaseline works. If your cat refuses to eat it mix it into a half a can of wet food.

take this as a lesson learned and get pet insurance, should be 20-30 bucks a month. Would have covered 90% of an emergency procedure like this.

Animals are biologically about as complex as humans, but a lot less are people willing to pay for their surgery. The smaller the animal the more difficult it tends to get

No cat is worth 10k. Have him killed humanely by the vet, clean your fucking pig sty home, get another cat and learn from your mistakes you ingrate.

      Honestly, this.
Had a cat for 17 years. I loved her. She passed away almost exactly 1 year ago, and I cried like a baby the day she died.
I could've kept her alive for probably a couple more years with a continuous treatment that would cost me 1+k a month (thus, 12+k a year). I opted to euthanize her instead, and today her ashes lie in a cute wooden box in my living room.

Pets have short life spams compared to us, and as much as it hurts, we have to accept they eventually die. Instead of wasting thousands of bucks to keep them alive by any means necessary (like we would do to our children), we accept their passing, mourn it, and remember the valuable lessons they teach us while they're with us.
