Really like how Dave sounds on this record so far. What i hear lacking are good progressions, at least in the songs released so far. This one in particular could have used a better, clearer bridge. I really don't like how the last chord resloves into the same key and groove as the rest of the song, sounds very tacked on and makes the song sound static. Same overall problem with Ghosts again: good clear vocals, but an underwhelming synth solo, which repeats itself with no variation couple of times throughout.
One can't help but long for the days when this band put out amazing shit like "Walking in my shoes", or "In your room".

Interesting analysis, but it's definitely far ahead of preachy bullshit on Spirit

I like the dark atmosphere of this song but it's werid how it has no proper chorus

Good one, my issue is more on lyrics side. They are good, but delivery is lacking for me(and that is not Dave's fault). For me, it sounds like Ultra, and like few of Ultra's tracks, it needs 1 minute to be less. Kinda drags at the end.

Welcome to my world was better imo

It was, Delta Machine is quite decent. Still, that song is clearly a "World in my Eyes" re-imagining. There was something that was lost, that has gone from the soul of this band somewhere around "Sounds of the Universe" album, with WRONG being the last imperial, iconic, fresh hit song from them (honourable mentions go out to Broken, Should be Higher and Goodbye).

I prefer this to My World, this is darker, the soundscapes are richer and the production is far better too.

Well it's name sounds like WIME but it is about different thing(WTMW is more about exploring another soul, while WIME is a song about Intimization with another). But yes, they lost the touch in time of SOTU, where they made an filler album to be carried by Wrong.

While i agree it sounds better and have more interesting layers, as a song, My Cosmos Is My isn't really as good as WTMY. It doesn't have the punch and it drags to much(literally you could skip easily last minute and nothing would changed). I will be honest, it sounded better on that snippet DM released in the last year.

My cosmos sounds more like a demo than a single

This reminds me of Playing the Angel with a touch of Ultra with the industrial dark soundscapes

Their sound ever since Alan left has become more minimalist, gone are the cinematic anthems of music for the masses and SOFAD, but this sounds like Playing the Angel 2.0 quality, which is good so I'm not upset.

This is great despite the lazy chorus and title. Wouldn't look out of place on Ultra.

Incredibly oppressive, I really love Depeche Mode being infused with an Industrial tinge and it is done so well, feels like something off Ultra or Playing The Angel. Even then in its soundscapes, it's perhaps darker than most of the songs of those albums.

Yeah I'd give this album a 7 or 7.5 out of 10 from the 4 songs I've heard so far. On par with playing the angel

I was supposed to see them April 7 in Toronto with my buddy but I got long covid 3 months ago, had to get a refund. Thinking of purchasing tickets for the fall north American leg of the tour by that time I should be better

              Nice thanks
Wagging Tongue is alright but a bit formulaic, My Favourite Stranger is better but both songs lack a memorable hook

My favorite stranger(live) >>> Ghost Again >> My Cosmos is Mine > Wagging tongue(live)

I actually think that MFS and WT would be even better on album then live, so I cant wait

My favorite stranger should be a single... it's got that hollow dark feel to it and reminds me of ultra's songs

Sister of Night and Freestate are the most underrated Depeche Mode songs

+ whole album is underrated, 90s DM > 80s DM, and Ultra is better than MFTM and BC.

this is very good compared to ghost nigga, which i found awful. this is the DM i wanna hear. also long track, good. i dont miss a chorus or whatever, its just like creeping silently under a heavy industry so whatever artificial creatures dont hunt you.

    2. Violator 9.5
    3. Ultra 9
    4. Black Celebration 8.5
    5. Music for the masses 8
    6. Playing the Angel 8
    7. Some Great Reward 7.5
    8. Delta Machine 7
    9. A Broken Frame 6
    10. Sounds of the Universe 5.5
    11. Construction Time Again 5.5
    12. Exciter 5
    13. Speak and Spell 4
    14. Spirit 3
Let Memento Mori be 7-8 and they can retire in peace(no more Spirit shit)

Told You So and More than a Party are hidden gems

That would be CTA with Get the balance right, minus Pipeline(dogshit) and Landscape is changing(corny Alan song)

        You're almost correct.

The true Depeche Mode album ranking™:

        1. Violator 9/10
        2. Songs of faith and devotion 8.9/10 (but my favourite one)
        3. Ultra 8.5/10
        4. Music for the Masses 8/10
        5. Black Celebration 7.75/10
        6. Playing the Angel 7.5/10
        7. Some Great Reward 7.25/10
        8. Spirit 7/10
        9. Construction time Again 6.75/10
        10.. Speak and Spell 6.75/10
        11. Sounds of the Universe 6.5/10
        12. Delta Machine 6.25/10
        13. Exciter 5.5/10
        14. A Broken Frame 4/10

Memento Mori should be about a 7.5/10, on par with Playing the Angel.

Spirit over Delta Machine is weird to put, because Spirit has literally the sound of DM but worse lyrics.

What does LULZ think of Dangerous?

For me, it's Sea of Sin and Memphisto from Violator B-sides
