My problem with this line of reasoning is that it overestimates how much companies care about competency in hiring. I've seen some really questionable hires over the years, and met a lot of otherwise smart and able men who can't get a decent job to save their life.

More women are technically qualified for professional roles than men at the moment, they will do the same job for less pay (your real job is to be a fall guy for your boss, not whatever you think it is you were hired for), and in sufficient numbers they act as a political hedge because you can simply accuse all who oppose or challenge you of sexism if they berate you or your team.

I work at a company with 95% men. It is a small manufacturing company in which all workers in the factory are men, all important office jobs are men and they few women that work here work in paper work and quality control.
The only issue we ever had was with one of the roasties at quality control that got jealous of its younger coworker and started sabotaging her in the dumbest ways (not teaching how to use a machine or to exclude her from basic work). Old women can't stand younger and prettier women and if they have a choice they would just make their lifes a living hell as a vendetta for their age

im not joking, after doing DevOps for a few years and noticing i was the work horse of the company I quit went on benifits for a few months and decided to try a relax office job. (bachelor degree required by the way). the job offer made it seem like you had to know some shit. anyway I come into the office and my team is 5 girls and 1 other guy. I worked there for 2 years. the hardest thing I had to do was the vertical lookup function in excel. that and some emails and sometimes look something up in SAP. I will never forget how B.S and easy most office wagies have it.
