Probably when it is in the building you are supposed to be worshiping God in, because everything in there points to either you are worshiping it or you are worshiping God, from the building you are in.
And a picture like that looks like there are lots of relics and icons and idols and statues we are supposed to be worshiping like that it is going to deliver us from our sins. Only time God ever held up a object to deliver people out of trouble was Moses with the bronze cross and it was to save people from being poisoned or something. It was a one time deal and it involved being obedient to God. So I think it would be weird to construct a permanent church with all these blasphemous things inside and not relying on faith in God to save but seems to be forcing people into some kind of Christian Themed Cult that isn’t part of what God said to do. If a religion isn’t what God said to do anymore, then it means it falls into disobedience.

What's wrong with a little admiration for the man who did the single most important thing in the entirety of human history? Compared to what he should have, this is miniscule.

Ancient Israel constantly slipped into idolatry and fell into apostasy multiple times throughout their history and all their failings were recorded for our admonition.

The veneration of objects (even if you think up clever and subtle ways to justify it) is just too dangerous. The historical record is clear, man is just too susceptible to idolatry and it's too dangerous to flirt with. Even if you think the symbols are not dangerous in and of themselves, you don't require them for worship, they provide nothing but eye candy and temptation of the senses, and people begin to attribute spiritual "energy" to them.

Catholics kiss statues until parts of them wear off and have to be repaired, old ladies will scramble to touch the petrified foot of a "blessed saint" and start crying and bowing before carvings of Mary. In Mexico they'll lay out food offerings before statues and the priests don't correct them, but encourage it.

When traditional Buddhists bow before and present offerings before golden statues of Buddha, they too acknowledge that they aren't actually worshiping the statue itself, but rather think of it as an object to center their attention toward and that it brings them closer to the ideal of what the Buddha represents.

Why do Christian require material objects in order to "hone" or "center" their consciousness upon Christ? Why do you need physical tools like rosary beads, statues, relics, and objects to help you pray or think about God? What's even the point

Cause Catholicism is just pagan Christianity always has been

Because Christianity is not an abstract mental construct. It is an embodied way of life. We take Christ's physical flesh and blood into our bodies. We literally embody Christ himself. We wash away our sins with holy water. We kiss our icons and cross ourselves before them.

human history is only like 6k years bro
all religions are ultimately bastardizations of the Edenic truths relayed to the offspring of Adam... so yeah, there is going to be overlaps, because they're all corrupted permutations of the original religious system

        Anonymous

There's no Eden, there's no Adam, and Zoroaster himself is dated by the Greco-Romans to around 6000 BC, that's 8k years ago. If anything all religions are a bastardization of early PIE-Zarathustran(read: Aryan-Zoroaster) truths.

Zoroaster is probably younger than that, I personally figure he is late PII.

You'd be arguing with every single Greco -Roman source that dates him based on nothing more than a naked guess

The Greco-Romans obviously don't really know, and there is no evidence of Zoroastrianism-like ideas in other IE cultures not related to Iranians, but he is old enough to refer to their steppeBlack person origins and the northern homeland, so I think PII fits quite well.

Are *you* kidding me? We have universal documentation from multiple sources over half a millennia from at least two different cultures and your best argument is "well I just feel like they're all wrong".

I get that you want it to be young so your favorite religion can preserve some type of legitimacy but surely you see how this all sounds.

            Anonymous

My favourite religion is IE paganism, and I'm sure Zoroastrianism is the oldest semi-organised religion on record, but the evidence just isn't there for it being PIE, and these "sources" you cite are most likely all just echoing one source that reported something exaggerated

Ok, I get it that OP' pic is most likely an Eastern Orthodox church.

But why are Roman Catholics so obsessed with worshipping Mary?

They say they don't, but they defacto do.
They make a feminist pagan goddess of her. A caricature.
They come up with nonsense out of their ass like the "Hail Mary" prayer, "Immaculate Conception" and "Queen of Heaven".
Or going against Matthew 6:7 with the "Rosary".

Catholics are all sorts of confused

They make the assumption of Mary a dogma of faith, yet there's is no reference to Mary's alleged assumption in the early creeds, which they admit are the standard of the faith.

"Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

Then the israelites began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
