      You know that, right?
This has a mediatek kompanio 1380 with a Mali G71 gpu, supported by open source Panfrost gpu drivers
It is faster than 2016 Macbook Pro and costs less than $500

The laptop never even gets warm, even when training ML models and fucking around with a bunch of Jupyter notebooks with a zillion tabs open. I do everything on it.

i was given a mbp 2021 version, only twive ever heard the fan turn on when rendering. doing literally everything else this bitch is colder than ambient, my hands have to warm the lower part under the keyboard.

      m.2, swap it out

8 gig of ram is also too little.
Linux memory allocation scheduler isn't made for desktop use so you'll have the occasional freezes even with light use when swapping.
I refuse to go through the hassle to manually patch the kernel with the ck scheduler.
        It's a huge time waster.

          >8 gig of ram is also too little.
          I don't care about this
I rarely hit 8gbs and I can use swap partition if I need it

            >I can use swap partition if I need it
Didn't you read what I just posted? If you have to rely on swap you'd have to do lots of tweaking to make the system usable on pretty much any distro because the kernel's memory allocation isn't optimized for desktop use on pretty much any distro.
You need the ck kernel patches at least and tweak bunch of /sys/ flags as will as install some watchdog that will kill processes before you run out.
Otherwise the system will freeze for several seconds to minutes, even with just casual use.

I probably did. But that was years ago.
Eventually I was like fuck it and actually installed windows on my desktop and bought an apple laptop.

I won't be using Linux on the desktop again until distros meant for desktop use actually ship with desktop optimized kernels and settings. I was interested in how operating systems work back then, so I didn't mind the tweaks but now I just want something that works.

Acer CP513-2H has the same CPU and RAM, but is stuck with 128gb eMMC
This has the high performance chip with a m.2 NVMe SSD
      The dream is finally real

Lol. Lmao, even. Sorry, what did you just say you little baby? Software compati- what?! This might be a technology board but don't mistakes us for being a nerd manchildren like you are. When you've been in the game for a while you realize how silly using non standard software, customization and overall computer usage really is. Personally I only use my work issued laptop (a Mac btw) and that's pretty much it. A chromebook is more than enough as a companion device for general use.
