>How is plastic natural?
How is it not? Plastic is produced on Earth from materials from the Earth, made with tools that also came from earth, by creatures that naturally evolved on Earth. When all is said and done and humanity has long passed, plastic will too eventually break down return to the Earth, even if it takes what is, only by our standards, a "long time".
It "returning to the earth" and us being a biological organism is irrelevant. Unnatural means to be created by humans, through our industries as it stands. If we're getting particularly abstract it could mean something made by an intelligent creator, extending the definition to non-humans but there is no such thing on record. A Mousterian hand axe is unnatural as is a lego, one could argue which would "return to the earth" faster but again this is irrelevant, they were both inarguably made by humans and human Industry. These distinctions exist in language for good reason and you're just being stubborn now.
>Where does our intellect come from?
Well that's debatable, but I'm just giving a proper definition of what meaning is being delivered when the term "natural" is used.
He's just going to say humans are natural therefore part of the same system and thus can't be unnatural. All he's doing is illustrating how the common definition of natural is insufficient to illustrate the actual meaning being delivered.
Yeah but if hyper mutant murder apes with gigantic 4 pound brains start producing things with metals and technologies that cannot exist in nature, in order to make more things that cannot exist in nature, the definition is still quite sufficient. If he made that argument he would just be deliberately pretending to be autistic. Or maybe not pretending 🙁
>hyper mutant
Humans are no more or less mutated than any other being
>murder apes
Not that much more or less violent
>gigantic 4 pound brains
Other species have bigger brain to size ratio
>start producing things with metals and technologies that cannot exist in nature
Again, a self-referential definition. Unnatural is something that produces something that can't happen in nature. What is nature? Everything that's not unnature.
My point is that natural and unnatural are really just reflexive definitions that define ourselves and our internal self-conscious experience as opposite from the other that exists outside ourselves. The problem is that this understanding of this clean break before outside and inside is an illusion. We can only come from nature and our experiences can never truly be separated from that. Your understanding of "unnatural" is a faulty heuristic that can easily be shown to be fuzzy. Just look at the complex machinations of cells, DNA replication, stellar element creation, animal tools, etc. etc.

No, it's a definition for a pretty straightforward concept. If you form some kind of individual or cultural hangup on such a thing, that's more of a "you" problem.

No it's just how language and words work. I am not so easily buckbroken by basic concepts, ehem... >Just look at the complex machinations of cells, DNA replication, stellar element creation, animal tools, etc. etc
I think anon's statement about diverting rivers applies here, it can be an ethical cluster fuck but at base are humans manufacturing a thing? If so it is unnatural.
Do you not see how odd it is that nature produces the unnatural? How does that make sense?
It makes sense because it is incredibly straightforward. You're overthinking it lad.
What about ghosts?
Natural and spooky as hell. I 100% believe in ghosts bros.
>Define natural
To be in line with the nature of something, e.g. a dog wags his tail when he is happy, and a cat meows. For a cat to bark would be unnatural.

How is plastic natural?
>inb4 natural polymers
Not the same.

Natural is a term used to describe things that exist that are separate from our intellectual interference.
Where does our intellect come from?
Define natural
>Where does our intellect come from?
God
>Where does our intellect come from?

Men can divert rivers. Doesn't make the action or any part of it unnatural. You're not breaking the laws of nature or physics.
>Define natural
Caused or existing via nature; not caused by humankind.

Those things the intelligent apes made would be unnatural in the proper utility of the word.

You're genuinely retarded.

Buggery is unnatural
What about ghosts?
If bowerbirds and beavers and crows can build all that shit then skyscrapers aren't out of the question
