We clown on Jeeps mostly because the owners are homosexuals. It would be perfect for you.

homosexualry aside, is there anything actually wrong or bad about the cars themselves though?

        Anonymous

Wrangers? No. Liberties and Highlanders? My main beef is they are a b***h to disassemble, but that's pretty much any GMC that isn't a X500 series, and sometimes even then. If you want one to modify, get a wranger.

I've only had bullshit beaters my whole life but once I graduate next year my first big purchase is gonna be a car that I can frick up myself since all these years i've had cars that others have already fricked with

            Anonymous

Then a wrangler, if you want a jeep that badly, is probably gonna be your fit. If another model calls to you, it's your money, but be warned most GMC cars are designed to not be taken apart by shade-tree mechanics and it only gets worse the newer you get. Of course, the newer you get, the more ALL cars and trucks are taking that route. If you do get one, my advice to you is to not take anything in the higher package if you plan to mod. There's no point in getting bells and whistles you either plan to install yourself, or that you could install for way cheaper. A prime example of that is heated seats. If your model has that as an option, the hookups for it will be there no matter if you get them or not, so you can get them cheaper elsewhere usually and install it yourself. Good luck, anon.

If you need space you'll want to consider a 4runner or landcruiser. If you're on a budget an XJ cherokee would work. If you don't mind the footprint, a TJ Wrangler is a good move. My personal favorite is a CJ-7

This is literally your worst choice.

I saw a video that showed a wrangler has the same storage space as a 4runner. current generations

I bought a 3rd gen 4runner with 168k for $3200 in 2020. A JKs entry price used is about 15k. 4Runners are also better vehicles if not rusted

    You're in the US, right?
And you don't know how to fix old cars, right?
And you don't want to drop $100k on a Rover or G-Wagon, right?
It's basically just the Wrangler then. I highly recommend the 3.6L JK (2012-17). 2-door soft top for maximum effect.
The early JKs had a 3.8L that sucked ass (sorry to anyone out there with it, but it's true, esp with the 4-spd slushbox).

I've been driving a new Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with leather interior all summer. It's pretty kino and pretty fun. I don't get the hate for these rigs. The only Wranglers I hate are ones with all the tacky aftermarket crap on them. I think those look low class.

Also since I'm moronic, what's it called when you make the wheels on the same axle farther apart from each other? Not distance between the two axles, but where the tires stick out farther from the car?

It's just gay enough for me to be interested in it and I imagine it would be better for snow and off roading, right?

ooh. This also scratches the itch I have. Thanks anon

        that is the wheel offset

It's s worse for ofroading, it makes it more difficult to maneuver on narrow trails and switchbacks. People do it because they like how it looks, but I personally think it looks moronic.

I wanted a Rubicon too.. until I test drove it and the Sahara back to back. The red dash, red stitching, plastic fenders, mud terrains, FIAT electronics for lockers and sway bar disconnect.. too many things I didn't like about it. I'd rather add air lockers and quick disconnects when I decide I want them.

older suv-like vehicles before they were homosexualized by American suburban moms, stuff like Bronco, Blazer, Samurai/Jimny, Land Cruiser.

Even the Rav4, X-Trail, and X-Terra aren't terrible vehicles. They're pretty capable if you upgrade the steering/suspension. Some of them even came with pretty slick upgrades out of the box.

I personally would advise against Jeeps or frankly anything in the Fiat-Chrysler family. The reliability of those machines (universally score low on all reliability metrics) is enough to turn me away. Jeep's blatant disrespect for their consumers (advertising a road princess suv as a heavy-duty off-road vehicle is criminal imo) is also a major deterrent.

Related, but a big project, is if you're never taking it on-highway you can usually get salvaged truck frames. Leave it long or saw it off and build a bush buggy on top of it with whatever salvage cab and engine you find. Can be pretty cool if you put the effort in, but it won't build a reliable machine and it won't be road safe in most first world places.

nah this would still be a daily driver for me, but my job doesn't allow for tardiness or absence due to snow so I'm wanting something that'll chew through the snow short of getting a snow mobile

If you're going to work on it yourself, get a YJ. They're cheaper because they've got the wrong shape of headlights, but aside from that they're a good cheap platform to add whatever you want to them. If you're not going to swap the engine then get a 4.0 HO (91-95), and if you are then get whatever.
