33 years and still no one has come close. will we ever see another like him in our lifetime or are guitar heroes dead forever
33 years and still no one has come close. will we ever see another like him in our lifetime or are guitar heroes dead forever
5'5
I mean as much as I love shitting on Anime and as much as not le literally a real person Bochi The Rock kinda would be right? I mean somebody's playing those guitar parts? What about Tienerwein?
I'll never get the hype for this guy. He just sounds like a worse version of Jimi Hendrix. Every song of his either sounds like a cover of Red House or Manic Depression and his guitar tone fucking sucks ass. If you want a white blues man to worship then look into peter green
This+maybe some Lynyrd Skynyrd but Stevie Ray Vaugn is by far not the most intresting of these guys. Eric Johnson was unironically way better.
eric Johnson isn't blues, he's jazz fusion
>Eric Johnson
hard no on that one
>Peter Green
even bigger meme
who next? Duane Allman?
Duanne is 50× more important than Stevie is though.
>LULZ pretends that extremely talented musician isn't extremely talented for the sake of contrarianism
you can tell it's good music because good music makes your face do this
He's le technically proficient but ultimately kind of boring. This is like that guy who thinks people hate KISS and dont know who Sweet is but love David Bowie en masse because they're."...LE CONTRARIANS!" when I garuntee you both Bowie and indeed Hendrix were worth more money in real life.
>le
Fuck off
>it's the autistic schizo homosexual from the kiss and sweet threads
Lmfao
Please never listen to music again if you like KISS better than SRV.
Overrated as fuck. I'd rather just listen to Hendrix
Hendrix is overrated too nigga. in fact every talented, popular or famous musician is "overrated" that's what happens when you are good and/or famous
Axis any day of the week. That album is great.
Other than that, it can get samey fast. Once you outgrow that classic rock high school phase, it just feels a bit full.
It's fun to play some Hendrix every once in a while though but I haven't really listened in ages.
In terms of SRV, I thought Texas Flood was decent. Dude loved Hendrix enough to really try his own take on it. Plus if you play guitar, then you'd know even his string gauge choice is pretty difficult in its own right.
At least he didn't fake it. A bit cheesy at times but genuine.
Guitar heroes died when Duane Allman passed away
Correct.
dickie betts is still alive
Take the Rorypill.
I'm a guitar hero. I played the first 3 games.
Guitar heroes still exist
Slash was a god to loads of people and the biggest reason Gibson stayed relevant
Dave Mustaine, Marty Friedman, Kirk Hammett, James Hetfeild and those 80s guys are still relevant to metal guitarists
Modern guitar heroes like Synyster Gates exist
They're still around, you just choose to ignore them
We're talking about guitarist from the last decade the best we can muster up is Tim Henson.
Tim isn't bad but he lacks the soul grit and balls associated with guitar heroes
Tim Henson has plenty of balls (slapping against his ass)
This, you may not like it but this guy is definitely THE current guitar hero
soul and grit != boomer bends
Guthrie Govan is better
Where are the places to play guitar?
None in my city. None in the next city over.
Just buy a cheap audio interface, plug in your guitar, and run it through whatever amp simulation you like. Audio quality will be better than anything the famous people mentioned ITT had at the peak of their careers.
This depends if you have a decent enough desktop computer with a good CPU and RAM running Windows with some DAW plus VSTs to match.
I would say learn covers of songs you like by writing a list down of stuff you want to learn. Pirate GuitarPro and learn the tabs.
After that, make a ton of albums on your own by recording to a click track and add fake drums via Addicting Drums and repeat. Add synths and vocals at times too.
*Addictive Drums
Alexi Laiho and Synyster Gates are probably the most recent people who could qualify as having both the chops and making a big enough splash to be "guitar hero" status
Oh, and Herman Ree, even if Dragonforce has become such a meme band
I'd say for modern times, there's plenty of contenders: Kingfish, Justin Johnson, Geordie Greep, Ichika Nito, Guthrie Govan, Marcin Patrzalek. I suppose Mac DeMarco also counts.
>Synyster Gates
As cringe as A7X is I'm really sick of pretending this guy isn't one of the greatest lead players of our generation. He's a perfect example of how to actually use sweep picking in a way that doesn't make you sound like wanker.
I was an A7X hater back in the day, over the years had to change my opinion, there was some real talent in that band. Out of all the music from the 00s that deserves reappraisal, it's them, not fuckin Crazy Town or some shit but I guess that's just people going gaga for cheesey y2k aesthetics and clothing that shit represents
>He's a perfect example of how to actually use sweep picking in a way that doesn't make you sound like wanker.
I couldn't disagree with you more. I think his sweeps on the last album and the new singles are utterly tasteless. Even Jeff Loomis made sweeps less annoying than this guy does.
DYEL, no-lifter.
>Ichika Nito, Tim Henson, Manuel Gardner-Fernandes
Noooooooooooooooo! They're too skinny and the yucky ZOOOOOOMers like them!
Hmmm they're good but not my bag.
is his nose fucked up because he got punched in the face or was it from all the heroic doses of cocaine this dude ingested?
he's just ugly
AI has put the last nail in instrumentality. Sell your gear now. Just two more weeks before it's all over.
William Patrick Corgan is still a relevant guitar hero as his triple album ATUM is the best album of 2023
I'm gonna say it: his version of Little Wing is repetitive
What about Craig?
BB King here isn't nearly as skilled on the guitar but imo this is way better than anything Stevie did. More soulful singing, better themes, more tasty licks. This is the peak of the blues. Stevie was trying to chase a bygone era even 40 years ago.
BB King and other blues greats aren't good because they shred or do anything technical, it's the vibrato and personality. just the way Snoop Dogg is a good rapper, it's the delivery. then you got guys like Twista that talk really fast
all boomer blues rock guitarists are just poorly imitating buddy guy
Buddy Guy is imitating T-Bone Walker.
Blues is shit if it's not hard rock, this just sounds like bar room background music
If somebody was singing like that in a barroom, they wouldn't be in the background lmao. Everyone would be watching them. Blues is the blues, there's good stuff and bad stuff, but it has all been done. There's nothing anybody can do with a guitar over the 12-bar blues that's gonna impress anyone these days, it's a solved genre. Old, dusty, over. The classic stuff is still good though.
Ehhh sounds like shit to me, I'm not even that big on blues rock, but there is some I like like Zeppelin and shit like that, basically anything hard/heavy centric. Basic blues just sounds like crap to me, no power or strength.
i got just the thing for ya tough guy
BB King live at Cook County Jail is still one of the funnest albums I have ever listened to from start to finish. Truely great blues stuff right there.
>Stevie was trying to chase a bygone era even 40 years ago
no the problem was he was white so he inevitably was going to turn into buttrock. white blues is as much of a falsehood as white rappers. i don't think SRV was bad at what he did, it's just that he being a white redneck in the 1980s was going to sound like a white redneck in the 1980s, not a black guy in 1935 Arkansas. but then again neither could BB King sound like that, he was a product of the 50s-60s. neo-rockabilly guys like Brian Setzer couldn't really sound like Dale Hawkins either for that matter.
Y’all are all tards for forgetting picrel
I always liked how they bring their own PA systems to gigs. I think djent is a bit memey but I do recognize the skill involved.
I also like how most of these dudes think in terms of gear and push for innovations.
I don't really like djent but still respect this guy.
He doesn't have star power, there are plenty technically capable guitar players who don't qualify as "guitar heroes"
>star power
Doesn't exist. The media selects who becomes famous.
Here's a black guitar guy who had star power
>lenny ~~*kravitz*~~
kek
Black people need the israelite genes for it apparently
You either die a lolcow or live long enough to become a legend:
>that bald spot
John Mayer is current right
Only boomers care about "guitar heros"
The guitar stars of today are YouTube influencer who do gear reviews
Nobody cares about the opinions of anyone under 30. Now go buy vintage JNCOs and Limp Bizkit cds and pretend to be someone over 30, dumb zoomer.
Look. Back in the day before YouTube you could even gain local fame by being a mediocre guitar player. You would "that guitar guy" and people would tell "that dude can play"
Nowadays no one gives a shit about some guy being able to play guitar. Its literally cringe and you can see 100x more better players by few clicks from YouTube algos
No one gives a shit. People will instantly think "wow this guy must be a loser" if someone says he is a good guitarist or any instrumentalist for that matter
You're probably a non music fan who listens to pop, rap, dance, etc. The only good zoomers are ones in subcultures, like we were. If you're a zoomer who's genuinely into rock, metal, punk, goth, etc, good for you, you're a real music fan and a credit to your species. If you're you....."yikes" are you like to say, reddit as fuck, and absolutely nobody thinks you know anything about music.
No one gives a shit. There is no sexual market value in playing guitar anymore. You will only get likes from other guitar male nerds and gear horders
in early 2000s you would be able to get literal pussy if you were playing good in some local bar and showing some sweet licks on solo guitar. Nowadays no one gives a shit people think you're a fucking loser and instantly understand you've been practicing in dark room while other people were living the life. Why watch some loser playing technical solos when you have good looking big boobed women on YouTube playing guitar almost as good? But they good racks too
Ok, I'm starting to get an image of who you are....and it's not the kind of person I'd ever be around, nor anyone I know. You listen to rap, I'll say that about what kind of "person" you are. You don't get art because it's below your mental ability.
: )
>You don't get art because it's below your mental ability.
You don't get it, do you? Back in the 80s good guitar players were literal sex symbols. Even the masses, who generally don't "get" art, worshipped them
These days, as I said, no one gives a shit. Only small circlejerk niche OTHER guitarists care about you being able to play guitar. There is nothing "cool" or awesome about it. It's fucking pathetic if you're not a succesful gear reviewer influencer on YouTube.
In the 80s you could literal get world fame by sending some fucking shitty tapes to American record labels like Yngwie Malmsteen and be the most sold western arist in Soviet Union (that was Yngwie). In this day your shitty little tapes would be thrown to the trash and people would tell you to cut your hair and get a real job you fucking bum or make it on YouTube streaming doing nostalgic gear reviews for fucking boomers. Even Twitch game streamers are bigger rockstars in 2023 rather than some guy being able to shred
Nobody cares you homosexual, go back to lereddit, worldstarhiphop, twitter, tiktok...you don't belong on a board for music discussion and people of better stock
it's almost as if the powers that be deliberately stopped marketing that stuff since 2012 because they were Obama nutriding LGBTQ homosexuals who pushed pop, rap, dance, etc
>in early 2000s you would be able to get literal pussy if you were playing good in some local bar and showing some sweet licks on solo guitar.
i'm 40 this is not true. the drummer in my band is the one who pulled chicks because he was good looking. he sucked at drums too. girls don't give a a shit if you can play guitar and never have. rock stars pull chicks because they have MONEY not because they play guitar
this is funny because I remember a friend in the early 2000s complaining to me that he spent all this time and effort learning to play the electric guitar and difficult metal songs, but girls didn't give a shit and preferred the guy with an acoustic guitar who played the same 4 chords over and over while singing some gay song.
you want to get laid your music needs sex appeal. autismos playing metalcore aren't really that sexy. as anon above said Ed Sheeran just plays elementary acoustic guitar yet he's swarming in pussy. the Reddit retard ITT doesn't really get how music works.
Completly untrue. People are extremely impressed even if you are a terrible player. Playing any instrument at a level where it sounds like a song with just you playing on your own will wow people. Playing well in a band swipes people of their feet.
No one cares a shit if you can play guitar, everyone can shred these days
What matters how good YouTube videos you make. Are you popular, good looking and can make some unique sounding sounds
No one cares about some technical wankery songs anymore except boomers. its all about youtube clicks
"Guitar heroes" don't exist anymore because people are starting to realize that instrument virtuosity is commonplace as fuck and there's nothing impressive nowadays about being to learn fast techniques on guitar (or any other instrument)
Take any random-ass guitarist from any music school nowadays and send him back to 1972, and he would instantly be considered one of the best guitarists on earth. How the hell are people supposed to be impressed by guitar players in those circumstances?
You can tell you don't listen to this kind of music, yet feel inclined to comment anyway because you're an obnoxious cunt. Literally everyone in your life hates you because you're that guy, "opinionated without warranting it" guy.
There's nothing interesting about guitar virtuosity anymore. It's just wanking exercise and even women know it that everyone can get good at it because of YouTube tutorials, Guitar Pro tabs and just training. It's not interesting or worthy of praise anymore. The competitive gamers and people who are goot at something like CS:GO are the new rockstars of our world, not some guy who is good at guitar. Musicians are bottom of the barrel in terms of skills that are "in" or worthy of attention
Go cope somewhere else
>the seething autist keeps going
You listen to dogshit music, we get it redditor
There are millions of more views on Guitar Hero world record videos on YouTube compared to some guy playing extremely technical pieces on guitar
No one is interested in real guitar players its irrelevant skill in this day and age. Women find it much more sexually appealing if you're world champion at Guitar Hero videogame rather than "world champion" at playing technical pieces on guitar. There's also no money involved in playing guitar, playing Guiter Hero competitively can make you a millionaire if you are top class act in it
this isn't LULZ literally nobody here cares about gaming
>Take any random-ass guitarist from any music school nowadays and send him back to 1972, and he would instantly be considered one of the best guitarists on earth.
dumbest thing i've heard on LULZ all year, congratulations
The gamers of today are rockstars of our current age. No one is interested some autist having musical ability, it's irrelevant
It's game over for guitarist
No women of good stock is interested in any man over 20 who still plays video games, it's literally one of the biggest turn offs for women, women see men who play video games as childish and infantilized. You can get away with it if you have other things going on, sure, but they lose respect for you and literally wish you were doing anything else with your time, because it's the least sexy thing to a woman. They'd prefer if you told them you were bisexual and liked boy asshole, actually.
Coming through.
Nobody gives a shit about this guy
Guitar players do. If we're talking strictly about normies, they don't care about SRV either.
The only djent musician to not suck ass.
that strat looks HUGE he mustve been a tiny person lol
but yeah nah anyway he fell into the same old trap that hundreds of other guitarists of very high technical skill fall into and ended up playing stuff that nobody except teenage boys learning guitar wants to listen to
like in that video, that performance, that song, there is NOTHING of any value whatever except for his obvious proficiency on the guitar. the rest of the band are just churning out bog-standard personality-free electric blues while SRV wanks off over the top. everything about their performance is sanitised to the extreme, never straying from the formula for a second, never putting an iota of self expression into the music because they exist purely as a vehicle for SRV and not as any kind of creative ensemble. so of course the end result is music that is dull, emotionless, lacking any tension or resolution, and not worth listening to.
ITT: /r/beyonce escapes its containment zone
lol Ed Sheeran slays plenty of pussy so i dispute the OP's claim
Glam Blues sucks.
Daily Reminder:
1) Stay hydrated
2) Take your medication
3) We love you
Listen to Steve Stills's "Go Back Home" which predates SRV's debut album by 13 years and it already said everything white blues has to say.
I'm currently practicing guitar. It's probably going to take at least 2 to 3 years but I'll get up there one day.
