His work on ancient chronology, focusing on his views on the stratigraphic record, has resulted in some dramatic conclusions. Heinsohn opined that the currently accepted chronology was entrenched long before the scientific investigation of the past, based on the chronology provided in the Old Testament. He accused 19th century archaeologists of constructing their chronology around Bible synchronisms and of, more or less, following the chronology recorded by Eusebius in the fourth century, who made use of the histories of Egypt and Mesopotamia as well as the Old Testament. According to Heinsohn, bible synchronisms led to pharaohs Menes and Ramesses II being dated to the 4th millennium and the 14th century, respectively. As a result, Heinsohn concluded that they created a "phantom" history of two thousand years. In contrast, Heinsohn interpreted stratigraphic evidence to suggest that Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations arose around 1,200 BCE, not 3,200 BCE, as the textbooks say.

Heinsohn's ideas on ancient chronology were introduced to the English-speaking world in the Velikovskian journal Kronos in 1985.[52] They have found support with a small number of writers and academics, most of whom are favorably disposed towards Velikovsky; amongst whom are Professor of Philosophy Lynn E. Rose, Professor of Classics at Bard College William Mullen, Professor of Art History Lewis M. Greenberg, speech writer and long-time observer of the Velikovsky scene Clark Whelton, German author Heribert Illig, and British writer Emmet Sweeney. However, his views have been severely criticized by several students of Velikovsky-inspired ancient chronology revision: Aeon editor Dwardu Cardona,[53][54] New Zealand researcher Lester Mitcham,[55] University of New Orleans Professor of History William H. Stiebing, Jr.,[56] British researcher Anthony Rees[57] and Aeon publisher Ev Cochrane.[58]

    >n 1995, Topper, who by then had got in contact with a group of German researchers including Gunnar Heinsohn, Heribert Illig, Christoph Marx, and others, who all question the established chronology, decided to take a closer look at the Middle Ages and published a series of books which try to show that history, as we know it, was created from the 16th century onwards—according to this idea, there are hardly well-dated facts before 1400 AD. Titles include Die Große Aktion [The Big Action] (1998), Erfundene Geschichte [Invented History] (1999), Fälschungen der Geschichte [Faked History] (2001), and ZeitFälschung [Faking Time] (2003).

Topper's focus on falsifications in the Middle Ages and modern times has raised interest in the German press

Heinsohn at least criticizes chronology from a time with extremely limited sources. I find that much more excusable (not that I think there's any point to it) than criticizing well documented historical eras.

The argument is that 1000 years did not exist and instead it was jut 300 years or less than that,What he was doing is not new by any means,Voltaire said of Tacitus Annals was forgery https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annals_(Tacitus)

There's a difference between doubting chronologies with few sources (like pre-classic antiquity, or a very limited time span of roman history) and chronologies with numerous, interlinking, consistent sources.

There is no such thing as well documented historical eras, think about it how people in 1000 years from now will know exactly what happened in 2022?

crazy how those renaissance conspirators made countless billions in gold and silver roman coins, all made with varying stamp quality and metal debasement to match their fabricated chronology, with new methods of coin cutting and new methods of protecting against it all appearing in time, and then buried them in all the right geological strata all over Europe and the middle east.
And as if that wasn't impressive enough, they even managed to doctor the astronomical records of Chinese civilization AND all the ones carved in to stone ruins in central and south America, many of which wouldn't even be discovered until centuries later!
What a totally reasonable conspiracy theory. You're definitely not a moron for considering it.

You are an idiot. Things like comets appear in the sky. Everyone on earth sees them. Many civilizations record them when they happen. All such astronomical chronologies match the European one which would be totally impossible if the European one had a phantom millennium added to it.

Even Ron Unz knows it's cuckoo bullshit and said as much, he allowed them to be posted due to his dedication to publishing any remotely interesting contrarian drivel

One of the most amusing and common features of chronological revisionists is that they're laser-focused on a particular region of the world, and despite the ecumene being deeply interlinked they forget to explain away all the other regions they're unfamiliar with that would have been affected in their alt-his.

That's not even mentioning things like the fact that civilizations had contact with each other and wrote about them - the Chinese mention events and rulers from Persia in their records and the chronology of those mentions matches the conventional history of Persia which would have to be part of the fabrication considering how much of its history has to do with Greece and Rome.
And then there are historical events that affected large numbers of civilizations, like the Huns (who are widely believed to have also been the people known as the Xiongnu to the Chinese) and the Mongols.
