i know this is a faggy ask but i've just never been able to find a band that scratches the same itch as them. the fagyearning, the catchiest guitar ive ever heard, it just speaks to me on a level i can't express.
i know this is normie shit but i just need more music like this because ive listened to them way too much, would appreciate less british shit ty for any recommendations
Early R.E.M
sounds nothing like smiffs
then listen to motown shit or whatever morrissey liked when he was young
i already posted bands that do sound like them
what the fuck do you want? there's a reason they're still listened to today, there's nothing exactly like them
no, but you can find bands that are very similar.
sounds nuffing like the smiffs
hey retard, i already posted all of those bands
Not Josef K, RETARD.
There's nothing matching the lyricism AND the jangly riffs. If you want riffs, go listen to some of the jangle pop/new wave that preceded The Smiths and some of the stuff that came after.
>Aztec Camera
>Felt
>Orange Juice
>The Sundays
>Josef K
Morrissey solo
/thread
but also the chameleons
if you don't mind noise: The Wedding Present. less skilled at their instrument and the vocalist can't sing, but they have the jangle and the self-depreciating lyrics down to a t.
if you don't mind going back in time, The Modern Lovers. very different musically, but Richman's lyrics are proto-Morrissey.
if you don't mind wimpiness, Belle and Sebastian. more folky and introspective, but i like them.
not jangle but
red house painters
Whoever here said Red House Painters is just Smiths slowed down made the most accurate take I've seen on the board
british? the sundays first 2 albums. Same jangly great sound but this time it's a GIRL singing and also pretty britishy. Or you could listen to The La's. also british, idk I really like that style personally
Just with aspergergers instead of homosexualry:

oh yeah can't forget based Martin
first time ive ever heard LULZ mention this guy since 2007
i fucking love this guy's music.
>JANGLING MAN!!
side note, does this dude's career prove that sticking to your guns and not selling out is really fucking stupid?
Serious question.
You must not read threads here very often Martin is always brought up.
I mean it shows that you get to make great music that people actually enjoy and plus you get to be the cool old guy at the end of it
but how can you live comfy if your not making any money from the thing that you spend the majority of your time on?
Serious question.
Like is Martin's family rich or something?
I know he's had the same london apartment for like 30 years. Is it rent control? Do you clotted cream n-words have that?
I really know nothing about his finances so I wouldn't venture to comment. But being a working touring musician has been viable for a lot of people who have like no fame at all so I don't see why he couldn't get by if he was like playing pubs and bars and shit

>I don't see why he couldn't get by if he was like playing pubs and bars and shit
thats kinda my point he doesnt play live hardly ever and of coarse his publishing royalties are nothing because he's never had a radio hit so wtf?
listening to stray trollys rn btw
I know its june but I'm listenin to in the golden autumn. marvellous album

>in the golden autumn
hell yes!!!!
who gives a fuck what season it is

Morrissey's solo work, especially from 1988-1990 is the closest you'll find. You'll also probably like these if you're a fan of The Smiths.
prefab sprout is kinda prog, i dont expect people that are really into the smiths to love them
they're unironically unique

don tfeel ashamed for liking the smiths, they are one of the best bands out there.
the fact that they are accessible or "normie" means that they are great while remaining easy to recommend.
good as band, and as other have said R.E.M is very similar in some regards, and if youre looking for other "faggy" music then bowie and the cure have that feel aswell
[log in to view media]
>the smiths
>the cure
>memewie
They're probably all in my top 10. I knew my taste was a bit on the "sensitive" side but I didn't realize it was THAT gay what the fug.
We have feelings why not feel them, Compartmenalizing is more cucked
McCarthy. very to the left, sound similar.
Probably Belle and Sebastian would be up your ally idk
>Probably Belle and Sebastian would be up your ally idk
When the anesthesia wears off in your gender confirmation surgery and you wake up, this is what the surgeons are listening to.
Are you a Chicano??
Those dudes love this shit.
The Sundays
Felt
still British but Butler-era Suede, especially the b-sides
It won't scratch the itch for the great guitar, but Xiu Xiu's album Knife Play hits the grandiose self-pity vibe pretty well.
sounds nothing like the smiffs homosexual
No it doesn't but it hits the same faggy highs like I said
the sundays [esp reading writing arithmetic] is essentially the smiths with a female voice.
housemartins get pretty close
the song happy hour sounds a lot like the smiths
Listen to Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout!
The Bats have a great blend of wistful lyricism and indie pop.
The Silver garden gnomes and you know Berman is about that life because he literally killed himself 2 years ago
try machine gun kelly, really underground and experimental.
Mighty Mighty
This song is proto-smiths
You might like The Organ OP, vocalist is basically ripping morissey, while the instrumentalist are ripping off bands the likes of The Cure. Just skim through their album and see that sounds good.
kek I know exactly what you mean, I only gave them a shot for the first time this year.
I was listening to Jeff Buckley a lot, he always mentions the smiths, started listening to the smiths, and couldn’t stop.
I grew out of the smiths by listening to Jeff Buckley, Tim Buckley, and bands that influenced Morrissey like the New York Dolls, The Velvet Underground, T.Rex, and David Bowie.
Don’t listen to morrissey as much anymore.
Also for some reason the only band that reminds me of The Smiths, though they are very different are the Talking Heads
The Farmer's Boys were like The Smiths with synths and drum machines. And they were first. John Peel liked them but they never got successful.
Legião Urbana
Honestly this. It's one of the closest things we have to the Smiths, but being too similar to then can be a liability indeed.

BR Johnny Marr was pretty cute too
