Either the prices have to drop 'hard' in two months when the next gen is released, or the next gen has to be (somehow) even more expensive. The reason that's supply is finally available is because now is a horrible time to buy.

I am literally yet to find a game I give a shit about that my GTX 1070 can't play with at least 60fps at high settings. Spending $800 on a new card seems to net me the following "benefits":

        1) I can use retarded Ultra presets where you need a static, zoomed in side-by-side comparison to spot the difference.
        2) I can use meme tracing in the latest AAA goyslop that I'll never play.
        3) I can say I made a donation to my favourite corporation?

As tempting as all those things are, I'm somehow managing to resist and keep my wallet closed.

Now your your looking to spend $1000+ to play bad console ports in an era where the desktop PC is redundant. The value proposition is getting to be such garbage nowadays.

144hz has only become mainstream and accessible a few years ago. Most people are still using their old ass monitors that came out before all the high refresh hype. Monitors just don't fail that often and not a priority to upgrade for most people.

Our perception of what's "average" has been warped by being constantly exposed to all the best shit. Youtubers/streamers/tiktokers/redditors all showing off their 10k PCs seems like the norm, but these people are in the top percentile. The "average" enthusiast might be on 120-144hz now, but even they make up a small portion of the overall consumer base.

3060 should be a mid range card but its over priced along with everything above it

could the RX 6600 be considered as mid range? its £300 new

would say its suppose to be mid but now its the new 1080p entry card wouldnt recommend any AMD card below it or the 3050ti
6600 is best card at the moment for performance and price

Idk what happened to video games man, today's games require several times the power to run compared to games from 10 years ago and most of them don't even look any better. Many look worse.

companies no longer optimize their games so we have to brute force everything now even then the games wont run great with all the bugs and shit
Nintendo and a few other companies are the ones that optimize, Nintendo has too since they are running out dated specs wish they would finally make a console that would run modern games at 1080p/60fps equal to medium/high PC settings giving devs more room to play with

      Anonymous

I don't think that will ever happen. You have to forget about what xx60 or xx70 meant 10 years ago, they are just arbitrary numbers that don't mean anything. Considering a 3060/3060ti is now pumping out over 100fps on max settings in AAA games @ 1080 or even 1440p. That is more than enough for 99% of people to achieve optimal gaming experience.

You also have to keep in mind that GPU use cases have evolved a lot over the past 10 years, it's essentially a completely different product now. Gaming is no longer the primary function, its just an additional feature, a thing it can also do.

Personally I don't care if next gen I'm buying a 4030 or 4050, as long as it's resonably priced and gets me the gaming performance I need.

3060ti. Barely over 60 at 1080p. Things haven't changed. The numbers aren't arbitrary. It's still mid range.

          >unfinished, unoptimized dogshit
Sure, there is always an outlier. But it's like saying a 600$ 8800GTX was low tier dogshit because it only got like 20fps @ 720p in Crysis.

Every GTX X80 gpu cost ~650$, taking 6 years and 7 generations before you could play Crysis at 60fps / 1080p. The fact that now a "midrange" card runs the most demanding modern game at over 60fps and probably can do 80-100 with some setting tweaks is insane. And now DLSS actually extends the performance and lifetime of a product even further.

Have you been living under a rock for the past 10 years? Data centers alone make up 42% of Nvidias business (which btw is their fastest growing revenue stream). AI machine learning, simulations, automotive industry, digital creative industries, etc. A large portion of current stock went to miners, a fact which Nvidia was trying really hard to keep quiet, even lying to investors and the SEC about it. Nvidia has been shifting focus away from gaming for a while now.

      Wat?

A GTX 260 literally cost over 300$ in 2008. Then the following generations of XX60 cards were anywhere between 200-250$. But those were the disgusting fucking blower style coolers, if you wanted a 3rd party card they'd be 300+. The 1060 reference model came out in 2016 for 250$ and if we adjust that price for inflation it would cost just over 300$ today. So 3060 with an msrp of 329$ is perfectly inline with current market conditions. It even comes with a decent reference cooler that competes with 3rd party models.

It's like complaining that you can't get a car for 100$ in 2022 like you could 70 years ago.

Technology prices are supposed to go down, not up. Imagine if fucking televisions and monitors were now fucking $1000 for the cheapest, smallest pile of shit thanks to your "logic".
Any low to mid-end graphics card should be under $100 and high end shouldn't be over $300. Period.
Way to fall for companies gouging you because they know you'll spend whatever for your fucking card that plays shitty style over substance pseudo-games.

          Anonymous

          >technologies prices are supposed to go down
Yes, when new technology comes out the old stuff depreciates really quickly. It doesn't disappear, it gets repurposed into other products and that's how you can get your cheap technology.
          >Imagine if fucking televisions and monitors were now fucking $1000 for the cheapest
If you want the latest technology and features, that's literally how much you're gonna pay. High refresh rate 27 1440p monitors are like 350-500$. If you want high refresh rate + 4k or a larger size then that's gonna be like 650-800 minimum.

          >mid-end gpus should be under 100$
You're fucking delusional. Nvidias profit makes around 50-60% profit of every card they make if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if that includes all production costs and r&d or just production. So what you're asking is literally impossible. Unless you don't give a fuck about performance and you just wanna feel like you're getting a "mid-end" card for 100$. Then sure, they could just pump out a GTX1030 tier card, rename it to 3060, say it's mid range and retards like you will be happy I guess.

          >a card that plays games
Yes, this piece of hardware is designed solely to play video games and that's why the prices have been 2x the msrp for the past 2 years. You're actually a room temperature iq mongoloid.

6600 XT or 3060, odds are the 6600 as the 3060 is still commanding too much of a cost premium. If you're not going to go balls deep into a new build looking to get to 4k just get a 1080p card and wait for that full rebuild stage.
I'll be replacing my RX 580 with a 6600/6650 sooner or later.
