My husband has become paranoid of home invaders and bought a gun.

My husband has become paranoid of home invaders and bought a gun. He says he has to protect me, that its his job or something. I keep telling him that its the police whose job it is to protect us and we don't need guns, but he's insistent that we can't trust law enforcement to keep our best interests at heart. I'm worried he's getting polarized by extremist content into a skewed perception of things. Should I push for him to get rid of the gun?

It's crazy that Western women trust the police more than their own husbands. Also cute cat, hope he's okay!

delusional state-sponsored thinking. the police don't protect you. they investigate crimes and arbitrate domestic disputes at best. at worst they arrive 30 minutes late after you've already lost all your possessions and you don't even get a free pizza for your trouble.

Statistics show that it is 20 times more likely that one of you will use the gun on the other than that either will defend you from outsiders.

I'm not a statistical average of a human being. You should try it sometime, having an independent free will, it's fun, just like guns.

You are mistaken, and your husband is correct. It is the police's job to photograph the corpses and fill out the paperwork.

The police job is to arrest people. That's their job remember this, "protecting" is just a perk that happens after arrest.

Your husband is smart to buy a gun because nowadays cops take 30 minutes to respond to a 911 call. In those 30 minutes imagine all the things those bad guys will do to you.

LMAO!. The courts have said millions of times that the police have NO LEGAL OBLIGATION to protect anyone.

You are on your own. If I was your husband, I'd redpill you or divorce your wortheless ass, because any woman who won't protect her household and family, is shit and not worth anyone's time.

People who use the catchphrase "simple as" are morons who have a reductionist mindset. They bother with nuance as much as they bother with writing "that" at the end to make the phrase grammatically correct.

If you live in the United States, the supreme court has ruled that the police have no legal duty to protect you. So, you're wrong. Plus the police can be minutes away when invaders break through your window and seconds matter.

Your husband is right. He should honestly drop you before dropping his firearms

I used to think like this. In reality its brainwashing to stop you from liking guns by the government.

You should learn about guns and carry them. They aren't scary, they are valuable tools that may ohe day save your life. Being able to own a weapon is a massive luxury because you cannot own one in most places and go around getting stabbed and raped

Guns are only as safe as the people who use them. He’s not wrong tho cops have zero obligation to protect you. On that note, don’t trust cops don’t talk to cops. As far as the gun thing goes, if you feel unsafe around him and he’s not respecting your boundaries, then that’s a bigger issue. Personally I like guns, but it ain’t what I’m grabbing if someone’s in my house.

We live in a time of economic downturn and massive global upheavals. This means more poverty and subsequently more crime. The police can't do shit when they're not there in time, which they seldom are. Even then, many cops are laughably incompetent. Your husband's decision seems rational enough.

One simple concept, response time. Someone can shoot you dead in a instant, yes law enforcement will get the guy and he will pay for his/her crimes, you are still dead btw. If your husband has gotten a gun he should get the apropiate training to use the gun safely and to practice target adquisition under stress, its a dangerous world and its nice to be prepared

Best advice itt. The police won't be there in time when you're in immediate danger, best you can do is to tell your husband to get proper training.

Police don’t stop crime. Serve and protect is not an actual slogan the police have. They are not legally required to intervene to put themselves in any harm.
