Why would it? The Mormonites already found their homeland in Utah. I imagine most converts probably just end up moving to Utah instead.

    Precisely because of that.

His stories couldn't even hold up after mere decades. For one, he said Indians were from ancient israelites who sailed on this continent. One faction (Nephites) remained light, the other was cursed was darkness (Lamanites).. and these two had epic battles spanning centuries. Full of war chariots and the whole shebang. The Nephites were wiped out, and just the dark guys remained. But there hasn't been one ancient wheel found here. And we also know there's no shared genetics with israelites and Indians. The shared genes are in East Asia and North Eurasia.

Reminder that researchers found this Daguerreotype of Joseph Smith only last year in 2022.

Weird to see a picture instead of a painting of him

Brigham Young was a slimy two faced tyrant who, like every Mormon, used his status in the """church""" to get his way and didn't believe a word that came out of his own mouth.

          >The dispirited Baker–Fancher party found water and fresh grazing for its livestock after reaching grassy, mountain-ringed Mountain Meadows, a widely known stopover on the old Spanish Trail, in early September. They anticipated several days of rest and recuperation there before the next 40 miles (64 km) would take them out of Utah. On September 7, the party was attacked by Nauvoo Legion militiamen dressed as Native Americans and some Native American Paiutes. The Baker–Fancher party defended itself by encircling and lowering their wagons, wheels chained together, along with digging shallow trenches and throwing dirt both below and into the wagons, which made a strong barrier. Seven emigrants were killed during the opening attack and buried somewhere within the wagon encirclement. Sixteen more were wounded. The attack continued for five days, during which the besieged families had little or no access to freshwater or game food and their ammunition was depleted.
          >On Friday, September 11, 1857, two militiamen approached the Baker–Fancher party wagons with a white flag and were soon followed by Indian Agent and militia officer John D. Lee. Lee told the battle-weary emigrants that he had negotiated a truce with the Paiutes. Under Mormon protection, the wagon-train members would be escorted safely back to Cedar City, 36 miles away, in exchange for turning all of their livestock and supplies over to the Native Americans. Accepting this offer, the emigrants were led out of their fortification, with the adult men being separated from the women and children. The men were paired with a militia escort and when the signal was given, the militiamen turned and shot the male members of the Baker–Fancher party standing by their side. The women and children were then ambushed and killed by more militia that were hiding in nearby bushes and ravines. Members of the militia were sworn to secrecy. A plan was set to blame the massacre on the Native Americans.

The polygamy thing was a stretch too far for most Americans, and after a while they ran out of gullible northern Euro converts that believed the Mormon missionary bullshit about Utah being another Eden

      >that believed the Mormon missionary bullshit about Utah being another Eden
I mean, I just recently drove through Utah up I-15 and its pretty damn close to that. Pretty much the most beautiful place on Earth in my experience. The drive through the mountain pass between Navada and St. George looks like another planet.

Polygamous religions always end up with a few rich powerful elders with 20 wives who then have to exile the young men to prevent them causing trouble

That's why you put a hard cap on it like muslims with 4 wives

The FLDS offshoots are basically daughterswapping clubs. Unless you're well connected, a wealthy business owner or you already have daughters to offer the other polygamists you're shit out of luck.

FLDS got bogged down by their 2nd prophet getting jailed for going batshit. Issuing orders that nobody can marry until he's out of prison basically killed the movement harder than his arrest ever did.

Was that Warren Jeffs? He seems like the least imaginative cult leader in history
            >No grand schemes or designs , just marry dozens of underage teens and make them dress like pioneer women
Imagine having a small town at your disposal and your cult schemes peak at that

Yes, but Warren Jeffs was crazier than that. Dude was asking for increasingly high tithes to him to build a holy city but was living in Vegas spending it ALL on gambling, prostitutes, and drugs.
Warren is still alive and still issuing commands from the Mormon God to his followers in the FLDS. His dad was prophet before him and despite also being a crappy cult leader he at least wasn't embezzling the money. His dad was the 2nd leader and first prophet of the FLDS, so this movement fell apart pretty quickly (1954-2006). Jeffs was only Prophet for 4 years before he was arrested.

Well then why doesn't America come up with an actual American religion?

America was initially a bunch of Indians, so you can start with Father Sky/Mother Earth-style Shamanism. Then a bunch of Anglo-Saxons came, so the god Saxnot was added to Father Sky and Mother Earth. Saxnot was a wargod and an butthole and enslaved Africans, so the god Chango can serve here as the fallen king. Skyfather didn't like this one bit and kicked the shit out of Saxnot, and freed Chango. You can do the whole history of America this way, right up to 9/11

People were always fricking suspicious of them because they were secretive parasites. They got kicked out of Missouri, fled to Illinois, then got kicked out of Illinois and settled in the desert because people got sick of them trying to override existing settlements with their own businesses and politicians. The Missouri Mormon War started because Missourians were actively trying to keep Mormons away from a ballot box because they kept putting their own people in office. Things escalated from there.
