    No. The Nike shoes were the in-thing at the time, but no one had any real idea who the silhouette on the boot was. I think the Jordans were the first commercially available basketball boot in Yurop, so that probably played a part in their popularity.

    He was famous, yes. Everyone wore Chicago Bulls merchandise, and if you ever asked why, they'd say because of Michael Jordan. He's not the GOAT of basketball, but he is absolutely the GOAT of merchandising.

    Of course, there was a massive marketing work to do so, but that doesn't change the fact that he was the sport's greatest ambassador
