      A bit weird to have two swords and no pistols in a 1914 armed group but I guess they had to make do with what they had

      Mexico's army under Diaz was drilled in Prussian-style military training including cavalry tactics. It makes sense that they'd be mindful of countering trained horsemen. If you mean the anachronism of the weapons used, remember that this was on the edge of the civilized frontier of a poor country.
