Is the Mitsubishi Eclipse cool in 2022?
How can I make a 90s Miata into a comfortable daily?
My wife thinks the ones with pop up headlights are cute and really likes them (it's the only car she actually knows the name of and recognizes on the road). I want to get her one and fix it up so it's a good daily for her. She likes automatic so that'll be cheaper for me to find. I figured I'd have to do the following; >Your typical mechanical overhaul/maintenance >Bigger brakes >Meatier tires for comfort >Maybe seats from a newer one? >Sound deadener >Hard top (she hates convertibles) >Bluetooth touchscreen radio with back up camera, maybe more cameras >Newer lights all around.
The goal is a comfortable little car for her, not boi racer shit. Another option would be to get her another RX-8 which was her first car and she loved that thing, but I don't like the idea of a rotary.
>Bigger brakes
Completely unnecessary, The stock brakes lock up the wheels just fine. Even if you'll take it to the track; I don't think I've ever got my stock brakes to fade using decent pads and good brake fluid.
>Meatier tires for comfort
Stock 14" wheels would be fine for this, but don't be put off of the 15"s. I have stiff springs & shocks on my 5 and the ride is quite compliant.
>Maybe seats from a newer one?
No idea about retrofitting new Miata seats, but in my case the first things I did was replace the drivers seat with a bucket seat. I couldn't sit in it for more than 30 minutes without getting achy, so yes, might be worth looking into.
>Sound deadener
Just a few strips in the door panels makes a huge difference, but it's a cheap 90's convertible, good luck making it anywhere near quiet.
>Hard top (she hates convertibles)
...I'll pretent I didn't read this....
>Bluetooth touchscreen radio with back up camera, maybe more cameras
Whatever floats your boat.
>Newer lights all around.
Plenty of options to choose from. OE looking replacement units, LED jeep lights, "lazy" headlights, the list goes on. I have a set of OEM style Raybrig headlights and fricking hell they are bright.
Been considering getting one of these after watching the money pit episodes on donut. Looks like a lot of fun and easy to mess around with. That or a motorcycle.
