Matcheablest tie?

I’ve never wore a tie and i wanna start to dress classier, what necktie should i buy first?

Mostly to wear it with sweaters and oxfords/chelsea boots, nothing too formal.

    >go ebay
    >search for used
    >100% silk italian tie
    >usually get them for a few dollars in new condition

Then you can cheaply experiment and still have really nice high quality ties.

I don’t think the shiny look silk ties have match a sweater outfit.

Ties aren’t worn any more, modern etiquette inly has you wearing them when you’re “on the clock” and only when acting in a subservient position like eg a lawyer with his client or said client in the courtroom

Never heard of "modern etiquette", i don’t think anyone gives a shit about it.

Silk ties are not, if you’re picturing some shimmering shiny silk, often like that.

But you could check out 100% linen or wool ties which would be less formal.

Shantung or knitted silk ties are not shiny. I think madder silk ties are not shitty as well but I haven’t seen one in person.

And what colour should i go for? Plain black is okay?

No I would say that is way too formal. Go for color, maybe a more relaxed texture like pic rel.

I like red ties the most. You could go for a safe regimental tie like Cecil posted, but I wouldn’t wear a black one for anything but a funeral.

I was thinking on a textured tie like that in the picture but in solid black, just because black goes with any colour. I like solid color ties the most, patterns look a little too attention-getting for me.

Solid colors, especially black can be more attention attracting though.

Look at it on the extreme end. A guy in a black shirt, black tie, black jacket, black pants, black shoes. It will be 100% more attention getting than a patterned guy.

Maybe pic rel is a better choice then.

That’s just what im looking for, a minimalist casual tie. Would grey pair with many colors? I want one tie for all outfits.

          • CecilDrakeTheBoner says:

The lighter grey, such as that, is going to work with dark and light fits. Don’t need to spongebob yourself though with 1 tie for all. I really think used is the way to go, pick up a few for a few dollars each.
