I thought that might have been it initially, in that case I'm a little pissed at the photographer for using shit pictures to represent us.

Anyway I don't know anything about the show, but I'm very weary of it. Imagine being a male contestant who doesn't want to get with a tranny, having to debate whether or not to just go with it and avoid getting canceled on live tv. If they go for the "you didn't realize she was trans the whole time!!!1!" angle, that just looks like a tranny trying to trap a straight man.

Also they could have picked a better looking tranny, but I'm a bitter asshole with bad opinions.

          >male contestant who doesn't want to get with a tranny
yeah I'm assuming they've already cleared it with the guy she's 'marrying', it would be INSANELY fucked up for them to either not tell him until they're at the altar, or even worse not tell him at all. like that would be beyond fucked up
          >they could have picked a better looking tranny
tbh I'm just glad they picked someone who passes, she looks like any typical way-too-much-makeup british woman to me, pretty much exactly like what I think of when I picture a regular MAFS contestant

      Good optics.

I think it's potentially very good optics, it's definitely better than the hons you usually see used to represent trannies

especially if her voice passes and she seems like a normal woman, imo could be great for us

but if she has man-voice and then gets left at the altar because they didn't tell the guy and then has a hon-rage episode then obviously it's extremely bad optics

What's the premise of the show? Marry some random dude to her and be like "btw she's a tranny have fun"?

the premise is usually they take two people who have never met before and then they're "married" at first sight, i.e. they meet for the first time at the altar. this is the first time a tranny has been involved and I'm not sure if the guy she's "marrying" is aware or not

No one will give a shit if a tranny who looks like a Barbie doll talks like a homosexual. It’s what most of them would expect anyway. It isn’t going to matter to anyone. No one will hear that and become transphobic.

I was talking more about the hon-rage episode, that paired with man voice wouldn't look great

I think the best optics I've seen was some British blind dating show where they meet at a bar and talk to the bartender first and then have the date. Featured some gigapassoid with a perfect voice. It was funny, she revealed she was trans and the guy was cool and then the guy revealed he's bi and she was kinda taken aback lol

Anyway "optics" don't matter, the comments were still full of people absolutely seething at a trans person existing

Trannies who are smart, strong, capable, competent, or assertive? Those ones are the ones people like to worry about, even if they pass but especially if they don’t.

Yeah she’s practically made for “good optics”, her bimbo hsts aesthetic in OP’s picrel the ‘safest’ possible version to present of an MtF. She’s mostly passing and very femme in a normie way, which makes people assume she is exclusively attracted to men and relatively unambitious, etc. Even any TDS chuds or terfs who insists she doesn’t pass, will stereotype her as a flamer fag, still very “safe” for cishets in a pet-like way, rather than stereotyping her as “threatening man in a dress”.

It depends on your definition of good optics.

Do you mean erring on the safe side, not having anything subversive, just the most palatable version of an mtf possible, in hopes that it will make people accept MtFs (although as long as they fit that mold)? That won’t work on the TDS afflicted crazies, because nothing works on them, but it would work on Kate 58 the boomer normie, who will think “I had no idea, I had thought transgendereds all look like quarterbacks looking to rape women in bathrooms, but this person looks like a normal woman to me”. On the other hand, yes it means appearing unthreatening and therefore “weak and pitiful”.

Or do you mean pushing the envelope a bit, creating an image of an mtf who is celebrated among other MtFs because she is courageous and ambitious and takes no shit? But who therefore runs the risk of offending the cishet majority, because traits like ambition or attraction to women, make them uncomfortable when expressed by an mtf? This version of optics creates a character who you yourself will look up to, but who might offend most other people.

yeah, it is; there’s no optics that will ever be good enough for some people, but it’s hard to turn people perceived as weak and pitiful into a boogeyman.

to not be demonized by every cis person watching someone like that would have to pass perfectly and even then a lot of people would demonize her anyway.
Most people, upon meeting a cis woman who plays video games, makes synth music, rides a motorcycle, develops software, owns and shoots guns, takes charge in social situations, and knows how to fuck with the electrical wiring of her house, would immediately fawn over her and become infatuated while thinking she’s like the coolest women they’ve ever met in their lives (doubly so if lshe’s attractive bc people, men and women, do unfortunately operate that way). It’s almost become a trope in western comics/graphic novels and like the vaguely progressive cartoons that were popular for a while, you know the type that have like something derivative of the calarts style of illustration/animation.
But if she’s trans, doing and liking all that stuff just means she’s “male socialized” or “not really a woman” or “faketrans” or “agp” or whatever. And that goes doubly so if she doesn’t pass or is unattractive, the flip side of how it is for cis women.

I mean it's definitely better than a 6'4 hon who's built like a linebacker and makes everyone feel nervous when they raise their voice

I cry at work all the time. Getting angry solves nothing, but crying is the key to winning. Remember that starbucks meltdown when the terf provoked her?

Imagine she started crying instead of raging, that video looks very different then, it makes the terf hag look like the bully she is, and the manager looks like a victim.

It would, but the fence sitters wouldnt have sided with the terf, and the manager would still be in a job.

Facebook isnt 100% terf, it has normies that are ignorant, not necessarily hateful. They see one person driving another to tears, some would say "that isnt on".

              good post

If we are talking about appealing to cishets, they don’t want trans women to act like cis women anyway. They have higher standards of traditional femininity for trans women. It’s trendy for a modern cis woman to pretend at being bisexual, display a few tomboyish traits, and larp at being a girlboss, but cishets hate the idea of a trans woman even making one light joke about possibly being attracted to women.

I’m not saying you need to live your life by those standards, but saying what the safest type of optics/representation would be. You cannot 100% use cis women as a benchmark, these are transphobic double standards in the first place

im annoyed that ive used this argument against trans women in the past about stuff like getting rid of their facial hair even tho some pcos women are proudly bearded ladies just to see it used about something like sexual orientation.
im proudly performatively bisexual and heterosexual in practice and nothing you say can change that.

In fairness I feel the standards for how you present yourself in personal life are/should be more lenient than people who put themselves in the media

Like I know a tomboyish transbian top, but she gigapasses, mostly hangs around queer women, and stealths by default to cishet people, so it literally doesn’t matter because she isn’t like she’s going on the telly advertising how much she likes women. In her own life, she isn’t “bad representation” by any stretch of the imagination to those around her

I watch the australian version of this trash show with some friends online, it's a good time.
I think putting a tranny on will be deeply cringe though. I don't want to see the stupid tv characters yelling at each other about it

bad timing, I get you want to be on a telly, but we shouldn't above a tranny in everyone faces when we are almost losing our legal protections in the UK. I think such people are incredibly selfish and I will maybe change my mind if people here are correct that this isn't awful optics as well (dating, passable so TRICKING men!!)

We are losing legal protections which exactly means we need good representation, if we just hide, then only the TERFs get to control the narrative and portray us all in the worst light possible.

It’s not trickery if the show cleared it up with the guy beforehand. Would you rather that no trans people are in the media at all, so in lieu of straight passing femme trans girls, TERFs make up a caricature that is the exact opposite?

Clinging to your heterosexuality is clocky.
Cis women want to be bi so badly that a lot of them pretend to be despite being straight.

Cis women pretend to be bi because they're "not like the other girls"

Your assertions about the etiology of their bisexuality to explain why it’s irrelevant are also clocky.

Unfortunately we have the added problem of the people who are "representing" us have also adopted TERF talking points.
