I don't have a Xterra but I do have a Frontier which is the same frame and much of the same components. It's pretty fun for a truck. Fun to rip in mud and with 4x4 in winter. Available in manual which is a big bonus. Shifter and clutch are reasonable feeling, not like a sports car but engaging. Hydraulic steering is pretty fun and characteristically responsive. I like driving it on a daily basis. Gas mileage is atrocious though. I get 13.5l/100km. At least it's regular gas.
what year frontier? Thinking of getting pne from 2015 since i found it with less than 100k miles and rather cheap but i want to know if the gas mileage is worth it
05. The manual is what made it appealing to me. They had timing chain oil passage issues and possibly others so listen for timing noise. High mileage examples probably either grenaded or had that fixed. Automatics had an issue with the transmission fluid mixing with the coolant through the radiator I think. Otherwise the VQ40 is a really good engine. Is it worth it? I honestly don't know. I guess I'm not a truck guy since I have my doubts, but I use it to haul motorcycles and other shit around so it's been useful and fun. Got me across the country towing shit several times as well. Not so much into offroading but it's fun in winter.
The timing chain issue and smod auto trans problem was fixed after 2010. They revised the platform to sort out that stuff and now they're pretty much bulletproof after that
Ah I didn't see anon said 2015. Yeah those should be rock solid. Fuck Tacomas they aren't worth 10k+ more than a similar Frontier.

Yeah I always wondered why I never saw many with high miles for sale, but it turns out its mostly cause people are still driving them and won't sell them. I've seen like 4 of them in fb groups with 400k+ on them but still drive great
>cool
First time I've ever seen one called that.
They seem like an incredibly boring and mid tier option that just technically barely does truck/off road shit if you need it to but lets be real, it's a modern minivan for regular boring minivan shit.
Yes, when you prioritize offroad capability you lose on road performance, that's how these types of things work.
You cannot have your cake and eat it too.
How about you post yours, and not some file you saved from LULZ.
If you had posted a pic you took you may have a foot to stand on here.

I find it odd you post twin beam trucks in every single thread about off roading or different suspension types, yet you have never posted a picture that's yours or a truck you own.
I wonder what causes you to shill for things you don't even own, it's really strange.

>it's the only one with a different filename
Yes, quite sure.
Thats what the ridgeline is. The xterra had the option for an electric locker on it's dana 44 clone rear. Its a true longitudinal 4x4 suv. The pathfinder was closer to what you're describing with it's independent suspension all round and 7 seats. Xterras are basically a more bare bones 4runner
The failblazer was a trash heap. Best thing to come out of it was the tbss. Other than that there's 0 reason not to choose the older blazer, tahoe, or even 4x4 suburban over one
>ITS NOT OFF ROAD CAPABLE IF YOU CAN'T CLIMB A VERTICLE CANYON. MY JEEP IS WAY MORE CAPABLE AND ALL I NEEDED WAS A FEW SIMPLE MODS LIKE A 10" LIFT, PORTAL AXLES, 43'S, FRONT AND REAR AIR LOCKERS ON MY 1 TON AXLES, 1INCH THICK ARB BUMPERS, 5 SETS OF LIGHT BARS, AND AN 8 FOOT SNORKEL
I've had a 2005 for 8 years now (bought it in 2015 with 100k miles). Used it as a beater car (road-trips, hauling trailers, motorcycles, shitty snowstorms, you name it), and the thing has ran like an absolute dream 80k miles later. Stay away from the first generation.
Also, they're INCREDIBLY cheap. You won't find a 4x4 body on frame cheaper than this.
God I wanted the previous gen in 4wd, 5-speed, with the factory supercharger so fucking bad. Too bad it seems like nissan only spec'd a handful like that and the only one I found locally was scooped off a buy-here-pay-here lot within days...
The average Nissan consumer doesn’t have enough testosterone to buy a body on frame SUV. Same reason the Titan is dying after next year.
the titan died because the diesel option is a horrible unreliable piece of garbage that shouldn't bear the Cummins name
I hate how much plastic cladding is on these. Everything is big and chunky and it just looks like someone's overweight pug in armor.
The cladding makes it look better imo, otherwise it’d just be a pathfinder
I prefer plastic because it doesn't rust and it doesn't matter at all if you scratch it.
I saw a post saying these were fun to drive, how true is this?

U wot mate
I just bought my wife a new SUV that gets 17mpg, I was pretty impressed with that.
The problem is that it drinks like a v8 but only farts like a v6

these are great to live in if you're a meth addicted homeless person, very cheap to purchase because nobody wants em

Definitely one of the most off road capable vehicles, barely is understating it.

CAFE standards are going to kill EVERY body on frame vehicle.
CAFE standards?

Post every suv available with a solid front axle in 2023 that isn't a jeep
ITT: OP spent 4k on some piece of shit and is trying to justify it
I wish you could get those for 4k.

The first gens are built better than the second gens.
Absolutely not.
Stronger axles and diffs.
Where are you pulling this out from?
It's common knowledge.
H233b>D44 clone
R200>R180

Yeah those are cool. You can also throw turbos on the N/A VG with good results.
Check out this cool turbo'd buggy this guy made out of his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlN161VNuBw
