Mactard here. I just tried Windows and it is truly awful beyond belief. Truly awful. I'm stunned.

Ads and crap are everywhere by default, with the system is shitted up with Microsoft Rewards, Disney+, Xbox, Minecraft, etc. apps that I have to manually remove. The stupid Xbox app is semi-persistent.

The design is horrendous. For example, there's a "windows" icon that you click that opens up a search box. OK great. But *literally right next to that icon* is a search icon that opens up the exact same search box. What the actual fuck.

The settings thing is a nightmare. Instead of laying out settings in a logical fashion, instead you click through and through and through to different pages, back and forth, forth and back. It's like a fucking labyrinth that you go round in circles in and get lost in. And it turns out that a lot of settings are in entirely seperate apps anyway (like TPM control), apps that look like they were imported directly from Windows 95.

Dotnet. 2022.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out Windows now has a package manager called winget. Until I tried it. Several apps that I installed using it just downloaded the installer that I still had to click through, or they installed but they weren't added to PATH nor had a shortcut, so I had to hunt them down and manually create a shortcut.

Still have to install some things manually, including graphics drivers, which I need to make an account with the manufacturer to "log in" to their software just so I can actually use the hardware I paid for and own.

Lots of stupid crap like two Program Files folders, Microsoft wanting you to use a PIN instead of a password, DEP disabled by default, etc.

Security is laughable. Apps assume you are an Administrator, so actually trying to use a Standard user account means a bunch of stuff won't install or work properly, or installs to dumb locations.

Why do people like this? inb4 gamers. I said "people".

Edge is way better than I expected though, to be fair.

I always laugh when Windows users shit on Linux because it isn’t consistent
you still have to use the fucking legacy control panel from time to time (which is galaxies ahead of that settings garbage that they pushed instead of just refining good ol control panel)
you have chocolatey and scoop if you want something like a traditional package manager or homebrew
also don’t know about AMD but NVIDIA never asked me to login to download drivers, maybe for that geforce experience shit
nobody actually likes Windows, it’s just that most people don’t even think about their OS, for the average joe Windows or Mac IS the computer

Sounds like you want either Windows 7 or Linux. What did you expect? Modern Windows needs to be modified to make it good. Try making a custom ISO with NTLite.

      >And it turns out that a lot of settings are in entirely seperate apps anyway (like TPM control), apps that look like they were imported directly from Windows 95.

Thats because a lot of the time, they were.

I have to use this crap every day for work and it makes going back to my linux setup that much comfier. A nightmare for programming, but hey I get paid by the hour.

Unix/Linux keeps getting better while Windows keeps getting worse. Every product they make is dogshit from the start or slowly turns into dogshit.

There’s no saving this OS. It’s rotten to the core.

unless you have below 80 IQ you should have understood that OP didn't fail the install process, he just complained about the awful user experience
it's like complaining about the smell of your own shit after you didn't flush your toilet, does that mean you don't know how to take a dump? that's totally legitimate

I own 2 MacBooks and a Windows desktop. The UX for Windows is far better and less buggy.

Depends on the games you play. These days proton makes it possible to play most the games I care about on Linux/Steam Deck, and I can afford to wait for the handful that don't run yet. Makes it a lot easier to completely give up Windows and stick to Linux full time.

Macs have ads too like Apple TV, Office suites, Music, etc..

The trackpads are trash that don't let you customize gestures and can't do simple things like double click to right click without enabling it in settings. Worst part of all is that you can't double tap to drag and hold because of shitty decisions they make.

package managers are dumb. .exe are far superior. MacOS doesn't even have a native M1 MPV build. the one on brew is cli based meaning you can't set file associations for it. A lot of macfags are retarded and will open a dmg file and not install it properly so their settings are never saved

the file sharing is horrible on macs. they leave a ton of ds_store files and ._ files on all your folders... assuming the piece of shit can even load folders with tons of files (it can't)

after using macos, windows and linux, i can safely say Windows is the best out of all 3

      >The trackpads are trash
Absolute shitpost. If there's one thing Apple gets right, it's their trackpad. No other laptop comes close.

Do they have a patent or something? Can't believe nothing has been as good to this day.

How is it good? You literally cannot customize it. You must use it ow THEY want, not how you YOU want to.

Do they have a patent or something? Can't believe nothing has been as good to this day.

Patent on what? Not being able to highlight/drag things because the hold stays active even like a second after you lift your finger. That is really fucking stupid.

Talking about the better haptics (and the drivers to boot). Not singular gestures. I use PCs too, but I'm not dishonest about where Macs are better.

You blew it, dude. You only seen a macbook in an apple store. MacOS is unix and extremely customisable. There is way more things you can change under the hood than in windows.

Exactly my thoughts. I worked on MacBooks for like 15 years. Build a few gaming PCs in the last 5 years and although my PC is pretty fast, UX is just terrible.

I'm unironically going to install linux on my parent's computers when I can be fucked to.
Windows users don't even realize all the bullshit they put up with at this point. Every time my parents use their computer they're met with one or more obnoxious prompts
    >hey wanna enable this telemetry crap to improve your experience?
    >hey why don't you log into your microsoft account for the authentic microsoft experience
    >why don't you enable onedrive crap? you wouldn't want to lose your files would you
    >hey did you know your computer isn't compatible with windows 11? we'll keep reminding you
It's absolutely miserable. None of these things even make sense to them. Compared to that Linux just works for light web browsing and is strictly better than windows at this point.

gotta admit it's pretty shitty how convoluted and weird some things in it are, I still prefer it to mac although I'd learn both, I'm not a cuck though so I don't live under the control of apple, macbooks are about $6000 where I live so no thanks, linux is still superior to both and runs flawlessly on a $100 laptop.

what for the life of me i dont understand is how they want to do away with normal folder structure. i fresh install windows and im instantly lost until i make a bunch of shortcuts for root (my pc) and my hard drives etc. also all those pre-made folders for music, pictures, videos, documents etc are so annoying and useless.
