NATO is destroying all of it's legacy weapon systems by sending them to Ukraine. Their military industrial complex will gain new orders because countries gave away their weapons and Russia scary. Ukraine will also be used to demonstrate the capabilities of Western weaponry vs Russian to boost sales to third party countries. America especially benefitted, they stopped the reciprocal trade of Russian gas for European goods (mainly German cars) in Euros. Plus they now sell Europe gas and are the West's biggest arms manufacturer.
Don't get me wrong, Ukraine has lost enormously. Coal mines, gas fields, and heavy industry gone. Absolutely raped. But at least no-one can speak Russian.

The past several wars showed modern militaries can't conquer and hold land... it's too expensive.

This is roughly 5% of America's budget, being spent to prevent the 2nd biggest military power from invading its neighbor ( the counteroffensive is another matter, maybe they'll have to increase it to 10% ).
