    What a pathetic argument. The north was objectively far more committed to the idolatrous worship of liberty than the south in every respect. The south was in the right precisely because it was more restrictive, as every prosperous civilization is.           They mention the Lord in the Constitution (near the end of Article 7) and they say in the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

          The official motto, "In God We Trust," used in some capacity since 1864, and the pledge of allegiance, either the 1954 or the original 1906 form, all fit with that. The Creator, our Creator, is still above us. There are however no middlemen. The government is only instituted in order to to protect the inalienable rights of the people. So nobody is above anyone else in that regard, except for the Lord, since the Lord our God is still above us.
