Not even that, it’s just a hyper-v vm. It’s worse than running Linux in vmware player. You’d have more functionality from a free application running Linux than this half assed attempt.

        >hyper-v bad
jokes aside, hyper-v is probably the most funded hypervisor of all time
the point of free software is not to have better software, that's called open source. the point of free software is to have FREE software.

almost, but not really, because globohomocorpo funds are fragmented between kvm and xen. If they joined forces we would've had a perfect flawless hypervisor

    wrong.
Windows spends some engineering effort showing off memey broken features of NT and unveils WSLv1, which a basically overcomplicated shitshow that makes wine look simple.
That obviously didn't work so well because POOSIX != Wangdoze and soon enough people were complaining about all the filesystem race conditions that kept being "fixed" (but not actually fixed) and all the unimplemented syscalls.
Some intern probably shit out some related unused win32 features like Host Compute Network (absolute shit), the fact that Hyper-V is running and plan 9's 9pfs2000's simplicity to hack together a "seamless" virtual machine.

Wine is still objectively a superior experience since it's mostly based on using Win32 the way its meant to be, userspace. It's only because of pajeet tier videogames do you see shit like wine-server bloating up in features to mimick the retardation of NT on top of Microsoft having no balls to break people making syscalls directly like they threaten they would.

You will never be a real Linux. You have no kernel, no POSIX, no GNU coreutils. You're a VM twisted by Microsoft spyware engineers into a crude mockery of the developers' perfection.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back sysadmins mock you. Torvalds is disgusted and ashamed of you, the "developers" using you laugh at your halfhearted compatibility effort behind closed doors.

Not really. This is the difference between having to reverse engineer proprietary code and white room a new implementation vs just using existing code. The WSL is just a GPL condom over Linux in a virtual machine. If anything this just proves the value of FOSS software. I run windows in KVM because I like to keep the telemetry spyware on a leash rather than have Microsoft's crappy platform as a service be super invasive in my personal life.
