Japan

I’m going to Japan soon and I’m going to pack light/bring an empty bag to make the most of the shopping there.

What shops should I browse for men’s clothing?

I want to hit up Loopwheeler, and I imagine there’s cheaper/exclusive stuff at Japanese Uniqlos — but what else? Thanks!

    As a general location guide
Shibuya and sometimes Shinjuku for pop up shops, check instagram and twitter
Shimokitazawa for thrift stores (overpriced but good selection, definitely recommend walking around even if you don’t end up buying)
    Ginza for boutiques
    And don’t bother with Harajuku

like akihabara, it was a place where people in certain subcultures gathered, but it’s fame worked against as it slowly transformed into a popular tourist destination. like, there are still some good shops in the area but the people who used to hang out there are gone and the main strip is targeted at tourists now.

anyway I own a lot of blue blue japan so my favourite shop is okura in daikanyama

If you search /jdg/ in the warosu search subject line you can find older threads, but it’s probable that specific information (e.g store recommendations) is now outdated. As the other anon said fame, world over, works against famous locations because they inevitably become crowded with tourists and become sanitized thanks to government ‘assistance’ in promoting them. I’d recommend Aoyama which metaphorically falls between the traditional luxury clothing of Ginza – a city which is dominated by European fashion houses that aim to sell low quality items to new money – and stylish, weird fashion both from Japan and abroad. It’s also walking distance from both Harajuku and Shibuya.

I’m guessing you tend to dress in something like normcore or americana? Try Graphpaper – who have worked with loopwheeler before – or Auralee if the former and consider going to kojima if you’re a three16 ironheart denimhead and are down that way already.

The biggest attraction of shopping in Japan is by far the reuse shops. Keep an eye out for anything listed as a used select shop or reuse shop, or visit a chain like
Ragtag – Decent selection, sometimes pricey
Kindal – Great selection, fair prices
2nd Street – Great selection (location dependant), prices are a dice roll, conditions vary
Treasure factory (trefac) – Amazing selection, low prices, conditions vary and leans more towards a thrift store than a reuse shop

To add to this, you can still sometimes find reasonable shops there, but stay away from areas with a high concentration of tourists. If people watching, go on weekend afternoons (not evening/night).

Why is every normie travelling to japan now
Even basic bimbos are travelling to japan

It’s a combination of weak yen, youtuber hype and people looking for an ‘exotic’ location to travel post-covid.
