that razor is shitty. My first safety razor was a merkur and I would get always cut myself with it. I upgraded to a henson and it’s been one of the best choices I ever made. Much more comfortable with better results. The “meme” is thinking you need to dish out big money for a fancy brush and artisan shaving soaps. I literally just use Trader Joes shaving cream or cremo with mine and get flawless performance every time. Blades cost next to nothing, and I’ve had the same razor for almost 2 years now

You only fell for the meme if you have dozens of bar soaps and razors and boxes of razor samplers, turning the mundane act of shaving into a ritual with the gay little brushes and even more so if you use a straight razor you have to strop before every use.

I still haven’t moved on from the feather popular butterfly razor I bought years back, all other butterfly razors look like cheap chinesium shit and would probably break if I dropped them, I’ve dropped mine dozens of times by now and nothing ever happens because it’s sturdy plastic and steel for the important bits.

it’s not the fact that the safety razor was bad. it was completely fine and I have no problem with it. The thing is that I had no problem with disposable razor as well. The only difference was that I can instantly use a disposable one while I had to prep using the safety one. I’m not a poorgay so the cost meant nothing to me.

I can’t go back to disposables, the razor blade quality on them is piss poor and I cut myself a lot on them.

      • Anonymous says:

        >disposables
LMAO disposables are THE poorgay choice. If you can’t be bothered to use a safety razor then at least use a proper cartridge with good blades and a proper cream not that canned shit. I bet your skin looks like shit

        >prep
bro, the prep is to twist the handle twice to unscrew the head.

people have their reasons. I personally use safty cause my face hair will inevitably gunk up the in betweens of disposables and its nice to have a few razors for craft projects besides. but saying it like using a safty razor is a whole song and dance is kinda a bit much.

Turn the blade face down and run water through it
Safety razors are a meme. It’s not actively worse than the alternative like many such grooming/style memes, but it isn’t meaningfully better either.

doesnt work, ive tried, ive even tried to blow into it like a flute, my hairs are just too thick.
I agree its not meaningully better for most people tho. I just find it works for me. Its also nice to have a bunch of razors for house projects like I mentioned and you can have a lot of razor blades in a little space. but thats all just circumstantial convenience stuff.

      >it’s the tool not the craftsman
      skill issue
My first safety razor was about $14 from shart-mart, the second was an $8 russian razor from amazon, the third is a $37 open comb merkur and I can fly through shaving with it.
Cheap razors don’t take any shit off anyone, I rarely have ever cut myself simply because I take my time getting used to each razor

In my experience cremo dissipates really quickly so i end up having to use way more. Also it comes with so much water/air in it so it can come out of the tube that i cant add hot water to it.
Whereas with shaving soap, a lather lasts the whole shaving session. And i mix it with hot water to help open the pores.

      >big money for a fancy brush and artisan shaving soaps
a bar costs 10 bucks and lasts way longer the cans do and also create less waste. The brush is more of an investment I guess but it’s 50 bucks.
I never use mine because shaving cream takes 10 seconds opposed to a minute and I just want a quick shave not a hecking ritual.

its not always the shavers fault, it can be a issue of the blade/razor combination.

with russian gilet platinum i never got a cut, feather was cut heaven then i noticed the holes in the gilete are a bit tighter and it sits perfectly centered in my razor. the feather always ends up having a more agressive side and a lame side.

no the meme is safety razors
I just buy whatever is on sale and I don’t even bother with shaving cream, I just splash some warm water and shave.
not gonna bother giving out (you)s to all these gays that fell for the meme but are coping cause they apparently didn’t fall as hard as some others.

this, i dont see any reason shaving any other way could be better. cartridges are so hecking expensive and disposables are worthless

      • Anonymous says:

        >cartridges are so hecking expensive
No wonder beards and safety razors are on the rise. No one can afford to shave anymore. Maybe in the midwest it is better but throughout all of the west coast cartridges are locked behind glass.

straight razors are actually the exception, you buy one basically for life and the stropping, while ritualized, is basically a great way to start the morning.
      Straight razors are based.

it’s absolutely a meme pushed by consoomer masculinity redditors. a disposable is faster and shaves just as good.
      >d-dude you save heckin’ $0.53 per shave which adds up to $34.15 per year bro it’s just the financially smart choice!!

      >sturdy plastic
      pic rel

  3. Anonymous says:

I still use one, close clean shave, hardly ever cut myself and one pass is actually one pass as oppose to multiblade razors

There is a resident autist who hates safety razors for some reason. The idea of someone using a safety razor really sets him off – he starts going "It takes too much time!" "It’s more expensive!" "It’s reddit!" "It’s a meme!" I suspect he feels dumb for buying plastic razors so he’s trying to double down to soothe his ego. It’s very strange because it’s such a minor thing to fret about.

I was thinking of getting a safety razor but I don’t know what to get. For reference I used to only trim my facial hair once a week or whenever I felt like it but my trimmer broke. Since then I’ve been using some razors with disposable 4blade heads and just go to town on my face however long the hairs were with just water, maybe shave my body too after rinsing the blades with boiling hot water and do that until I arbitratily decide the head has had enough and I swap it. Guess I should try the prim and proper way for a change and have been looking into them since. I’m thinking of getting a Muhle Traditional R41 with Feather blades but I’m not sure about foam and post-care.

      just get a henson al13
de shaving has too many confounding variables and that razor performs the most consistently

    • Anonymous says:

      >3-pass shave
literally ameme. You can’t tell the difference unless you look closely in the mirror and you’ll grow back half of it in the middle of the day

    • Anonymous says:

I just do a two pass. One with the grain and one across.
Three pass was overkill like the other dude said.

I’ve been using safely razor for 8 years and I’ll finally admit that I fell for the meme

I have a Henson with feathers. No fancy soap and brushes. Just shave in the shower and moisturizer.

      >Gillette thinks I’m a rapist and disposable razors are shitty
i bought filipino disposbale Gillettes ’cause the other disposables keep pulling my thiccer hairs or cut my uneven chin.

ok the nippon disposables with memetic 6-blades were good, but they cost like 4X more unless there was a discount.
