Unironically lego is very expensive to buy and rare sets go for hundreds you can spend hundreds on a new set

This. This minifigure is worth the same as the gold coin he's holding. Best part is, I got him for free as a kid. If you don't stack Lego then you're doing it wrong.

I buy particular lego technics sets when they come out, usually around $50.

Someone here told me yesterday that I was "economically illiterate" because I didn't see the value of speculative assets. I would like to double-down on that today and say that not only are they awful, they should be illegal. Everything worth money should have a clear and valid use, other than money itself which is useful to trade with.

I understand that enforcing this would be hard in some cases, however if you are not even taking a game out of a sealed box to play it, that's hardly a valid use now is it, same with paintings that are never displayed. People who invest in stocks should get dividends as payment, the stock itself should not fluctuate.

      Anonymous

Gambling existed before fiat and is not going anywhere. Illegal by who? The world cyber police? Feels free to lick those boots yourself willingly but if enforcement ever got to that point you'd be executed for misgendering a tranny too

      >however if you are not even taking a game out of a sealed box to play it, that's hardly a valid use now is it
      it's a time preference thing
longer time goes on, less OG shit there is that's in still-new quality, and scarce = expensive
if a sealed pack of OG pokemon cards can withstand the test of time for 1000 years or so, it'd probably be worth millions in today's money because of the historical aspect of it, and some future fucker will pay very good money to open it and see what they get

Old video games (20+ years). As long as it is not a sports game it is worth something most of the time. Racing games after 2000 are worthless. Niche and horror games are the best for holding value.
