It's an unwinnable war. Hamas tunnels are the real deal and Israel is averse to heavy military losses.
The Israelis are not even entering tunnels as a rule right now. They literally run tanks without infantry cover and then replace the damaged tank when it inevitably gets hit by a Hamas militant popping out of a tunnel with a bazooka.
That is why Israel is just moving to negotiations now. A deal is thought to be announced within the next 8 hours.
