If you think that swarthy Mediterranean passing actor looks white, I'd hate to see what you think actual Romans looked like lmao

He looks iberoceltic actually probably how most romans looked like irl.

Oh goodness gracious no I stopped watching modern tv series and movies due to africans being plastered everywhere.

I didnt like Rome specifically because of how Anglo it all was. All the characters are these lanky, goofy look bongs going all "OY WHAT?!?" with their clever little sayings. Completely takes me out of the setting.

Also, most of the show is centered in like one of two rooms where characters discuss their boring personal issues, or excessive degenerate sex because romans were freaks lol! Made this whole "epic" series feel like some cheapo small drama production.

I mean this was about the fricking rise of ceasar and there is no real scenes about plebs rioting in the streets, its just Octavians mother being annoying

it's like you've never watched a historical series in your life

also you complain about muh Anglo Romans in every thread, you're such a boring c**t repeating the same shit in every thread you can find

It's a half-fictional story about legionaries Pullo and Vorenus. I think it was targeted at people who already know something about roman history and wanted to see it portrayed with a different approach

If they wanted to make it a story about the common people of Rome they shouldn't have included actual historical figures as main characters.

Vorenus and Pullo were actual centurions from Caesar’s book on the Gallic Wars

I agree the "gangs of the Aventine" arc was rather contrite but Romans were white and the "clever little sayings" and posh talk was to help translate the fact most of the characters were nobility. It is well balanced kino.

it's a 2000's production, i guess they theoretically could've had everyone speaking in latin, but they had to appeal to the lowest common denominator. in any ways i liked it and enjoyed it. only thing that really annoyed me was the stupid ending and the anachronistic egyptian palace

      >where characters discuss their boring personal issues,
      tv series' require drama...

      >xcessive degenerate sex because romans were freaks lol!
they were. at least they didnt show little boys being fricked in the butthole for obvious reasons

S1 and the spinoff were quite entertaining altough not very historical since real gladiotors didn't die that often (gladiator fights were like ancient wrestling but with more blood). Later seasons were very mediocre though.

There's not really that many instances of gladiators dying in the arena.
