The reason I'm not good at something is because the political analysts and middle aged people in my life tell me that by the time I get good at something, I will just be drafted into WW3 or the job won't exist anymore etc. etc. etc. This leads to me taking the logical step of never investing in an uncertain future. What are your thoughts?
It takes years to get gud at something.

My thoughts are that you are coping, listening to absolute retards, and choosing the most pessimistic worst-case scenarios imaginable to prevent you from actually trying and living your life.
Many such cases.
The draft cut off is 26 at the moment, so it's more likely, if you're of AGE, that you'll get good at something and then be ineligible for military service.
Just pick something that can’t be replaced by AI or robotics and you’ll be fine.
What, like "political analyst"?
nah not really it just takes months to get good enough at something
>AI or robotics
it's all fuckin garbage people have been complaining about robots stealing jobs for 40 years they were screaming about AI trucks for the last 5-10 years meanwhile all those meme teslas keep driving themselves into crowds of children or slamming their brakes on in the middle of freeways and locking their owners in, or out, when there's a tiny glitch in the software or something
Even shit like self-checkout counters and order booths at mcdonalds or wal mart barely change anything,
You are a gentleman of reason
the day that you realize that none of the crap matters, is the day that you will start doing what you want to, and you will get good at it because you enjoy it.
Kek what a meme job. Basically a bullshitter analysing bullshit. Call him scatman
AI is nearing the last stages, and our engineers at my job are already looking at replacing the majority of our production team with machines. Greed is a hell of a drug
What do you guys manufacture?
Industrial equipment. I can't say what because the company is hyper protective of their image. What I can say (not to sound like a downer, but it has remained consistent in my experiences): no job will be spared as soon as people realize how powerful artificial intelligence is already.
I've worked in manufacturing in gay-ass Canada before and never understood why they didn't get cheap Chinese machinery and automate their process like 25 years ago. It's retardedly antiquated and janky here, ripe for cutting out about 80% of the workforce with $1/h KUKA robots.
Some places got multi-year contracts where the cities give deals in exchange for jobs (cushy financial incentives), but not for much longer from the looks of it where I am; 2030 will be a mess.
Got any ideas how to thrive/profit?
As troubling as the thought is: role play will be the next frontier of jobs. We will have to be entertaining or be neglected. We will become like pets to those who hold licensing and shares in artificial intelligence (how to resist an industry poised to dominate every market?). I have been in a losing foot race to escape obsolescence, lost three jobs to AI, and I am running out of places to go. I may get nothing for going back to college, I am nearing graduation, but at least I can know I did what I could to survive. I would not last innawoods, and I lack marketable leverage in entrepreneurship. Otherwise, I got no ideas beyond investing in AI (I'm not cute enough to have people fund just for being me).
But with good AI, why will humans be necessary for companionship/entertainment beyond prostitutes?
Seems like crime is the way to go...
The UK had people protesting robotic sex partners and robot brothels as a threat to family structures, so that is a feasible outcome. Some threw out the civil disobedience route as an option, but that could result in, "Pest control," as we would be useless vermin to them at that point. Unless being able to escape their interests and wrath, it will be challenging for non influential people.
Luddites seem doomed by definition... what means do they even have to exert their will?
Who knows, some may simply be ignored, a saving grace akin to uncontacted tribes. If those who hold the reigns to the AI decide to be malevolent, the next best option is having just as powerful of an AI, mutually assured tit-for-tat kind of thing.
Now THIS is a thread. For one, I completely relate. I don’t commit to ANYTHING that takes years. It is absolutely not worth it unless you started of young in a great major.
So what kind of projects DO you undertake?
Bro, just fucking do what your passion or hobby is and dont give a fuck about others thoughts.
If ww3 happens, who cares do it still.
Get drafted,do basic and slowly try to when you can.
Don't stop because some old homosexuals in dc or tv say whatever regurgitating cowshit.
I listen to major news outlets and try to find truth in what politicians say and none of them are saying what OP is concerned about. It's like he's just listening to Alex Jones or other such people trying to profit on selling sensationalist books.
More or less grifters told you that and you probably misinterpreted them or took them too literally. It's literally bullshit. The future will require more expertise. I know you're ready for Warhammer or climate apocalypse but it just isn't going to happen like that. If anything, a large scale problem like a war between China and US would be a culling of the weak like COVID that would just kind of sag the world's entire population down.
