I do feel bad for zoomies for not having any real subcultures.

all we have is some mutant abomination that tries (and fails) to combine grunge, goth, emo, and every other 90’s-2000’s fashion subculture buzzword all at once

Meh. It just looks like a boring remix mash-up of long dead millennial subculture clothes from 20 years ago.

      I think it’s /fashion/

          >hipster nonsense

sure it was tryhard in a sense how a cityboy college student trying to look like a lumberjack while never lifting a weight in his life is funny but at the very least individual clothing articles were normal and made hecking sense? just beanies and wool shirts
meanwhile this zoomer shit is just weird

zoomer culture is hecked because of the overproduction of fast fashion. there is no ACTUAL zoomerstyle so we’re stuck clinging onto older eras and in turn the fast fashion follows, creating a shitty whirlwind with no way to move forward

        • Anonymous says:

And early millennial fashion aged like shit too. These zoomers are stupid kek. TikTok slaves dressing however a Chinese algorithm tells them

        • Anonymous says:

Rich coming from a 25 year old gay larping as a white trash teenage millennial from 2005. It’s gonna be so hecking funny in 5 years when you’re all killing yourselves because your entire identity is youth. Gen Alpha will replace you in due time and the suicide rate will skyrocket.

          • Anonymous says:

I don’t get it. Am I a geriatric millennial or a 25 year old larping as a millennial? Are you stupid or merely pretending? Do you have an argument against "zoomers are just copying early millennial fashion" or are you just gonna sperg out?

            >millennials

Millennials started the trend of saying you feel like a mummy at 25.

your uggo. other millennials were dressing in this shit in early 2000s. fugly wannabe thugs. finding normal pants at store was nigtmare. it got popular again because most people are now chubby or straight up obese. cant sell nicely tailored stuff to fat hecks.

No one actually wears stuff like this
It’s just some fashion student going wild and hoping to sell limited production pieces to people who will never wear them except for some pics to upload to instagram
It’s really just a form of creativity and experimentation, not a genuine attempt at creating a style that will stick, not that laggard millenial boomers will ever understand

clothing definitely had a tie in with music which segmented everyone, creating those subcultures – not sure wearing a hodgepodge of everything but oversized means other than keeping with losers tied to a IG and listening whatever is orbiting around 100gecs

The irony of using a website founded and popularized by millennial boomers to call them out of touch kek. Zoomer culture is basically just old millennial nostalgia. Music, clothes, even the websites/apps you use are millennial bullshit first and foremost. I guess zoomers have skibidi toilet and loud black streamers like Kai.

I’m millenial but I’m just not delusional and blind like all the other boring millenials who gave up on life like 10 years ago

adding -wave and -core to increasingly more obscure and random things and hyper-genrefying things are not subcultures but go off

          Names don’t make subcultures
          Culture makes subcultures
It’s a mainly millenial thing to break subcultures down into endless classifications like what happened with music genres

          >There’s definitely subcultures to a lot of zoomers

Zoomers are on socials all day crate digging and meme’ing up some new aesthetic and tossing “core” on everything like some tumblrina or /mu/gay in 2010.

          • Anonymous says:

lol so inventing arbitrary, flash-in-the-pan, bullshit paper-thin aesthetic trends like "dark academia" "sleazecore" and "mob wife" are millennial attitudes?

        • Anonymous says:

zoomers are insufferable because they don’t dress the way they actually want to. it’s all a costume that they pose for 1 video, remove, rinse repeat. that’s why there is no culture.

There’s plenty, you’re just too old to know where to look for them. There’s definitely subcultures to a lot of zoomers, I’ve started knowing the kids at my gym and they’re definitely different people with different interest and although it’s a lot to do with the music they listen to but that’s not too far with most subcultures that existed in the past. Anecdotal for sure but you should spend less time antagonising other generations and just go talk to them, they’re of age now so it’s not illegal.

agreed. if you need to label something, that means its gentrified enough people only like it for aesthetics and have 0 care for any backstory, significance or meaningful definition of it. stupid normies just want to slap a label on something quickly so they can describe themselves with it, instead of being themselves.

im trying to branch into designing clothing, gonna get a family member whos a tailor to teach me to sew and stuff. i like the baggy style of HS, however i think it relies too much on old alternative fashion and joke stuff. i like the clutter with the graphics & logos he uses, james wallace is a really hecking good designer, but its all gimmicky to a certain degree. i own some of his stuff and wear it out in public, but thats mostly due to my personal fashion tastes and not them being amazing original aesthetics. i think his colours are too drab and dark, personally i think the way to progress is to get brighter and more visually obnoxious with colour palettes and to avoid heavy use of mono colour schemes. if you want someone who does zoomer fashion in an original and thoughtful manor check out @vincentboilychatelain on instagram. you can clearly tell he takes minimal to no inspiration from anything prior and his creativity is pure and flows right into everything he works on. hes my main inspiration & i admire him heavily

About 90% of zoomers dress in joggers, hoodies and wear the same haircut. I’ve never seen a generation more afraid of deviating from the hivemind than zoomers. Guess that’s what being raised on socisl media does to you. Not really their fault if you think about it.
The 10% that actually tries to do something different rehash and mix styles from older generations, ranging from genxers to early millennials.
Other than the broccoli haircut which is almost dead by now, zoomers hadn’t come with anything really creative, original or of their own so far.

For the record I’m not against zoomers adopting, recycling and mixing together older trends, nor giving a current day spin in them.
I just find it funny that zoomers shit on millennial trends at the same time they’re adopting them.
This would be ironic if we weren’t in a post-irony age in which not only no stsnce is held in earnest, but neither can be ironic, since there’s nothing to be ironic about.
Other than that, let zoomers have their fun, it’s their turn.

  11. Anonymous says:

This is just Tumblr shit from like 2011-2012 again

I remember there was some Japanese brand from around that time that sold shit that looked exactly like this. Basically this is the shit you started seeing when things like “seapunk, “slime punk”, “ghetto goth” and “health goth” started popping up and it was all millennials girls and gay guys who spearheaded all that.

In that case I really don’t see what zoomers are doing different. You tend to have two modes for zoomers, very basic (especially for the guys, still wearing ripped skinnies, closet full of Under Armour shit) or those dressed for the internet types histrionic girls and ones doing that hobo shit. But for the fashion focused ones I never seen a generation whose whole thing is just borrowed nostalgia. It’s like they get up and just see tv and movie characters and straight up copy that like everything is cosplay.

And it’s funny how zoomers like running around calling themselves communists when it’s the generation that most head on buys into marketing shit thought up by big corporations I remember when that Wednesday Adam’s (more borrowed nostalgia) show came out and they were pushing her style hard.

It’s meta I guess. Because it’s like while corporatization of subculture for Gen X and millennials was putting a Hot Topic in a mall and “punk” bands on MTV played behind a Britney Spears video. For Zoomers it’s selling corporate approximations of those subcultures (that no one cares about or find dangerous anymore) through characters who are supposed to exude that attitude that zoomers want to believe they put forward. Oh and also selling past eras and the idea that’ll you’ll be young forever like they’ve been selling since the boomers. But in the end no one beats the clock and Gen Alpha is here. Soon they’ll be throwing zoomers out the door just like millennials and gen x for whatever “cool” and “hip” shit they can sell to Gen A

idk man i like baggy stuff cuz it doesnt restrict my movements that much + i like the silhouette it creates. grew up kinda poor so i always wore lots of oversize stuff and its stuck with me. personally always been a fan of hockey jerseys & jeans with designs or patterns on them so i do enjoy james wallace’s work, but its kinda overpriced + the gimmick gets old after a while. i shall save fashion with my colourways beware /fashion/

I really hate fashion companies ripping off diy music fashion to sell for overpriced amounts. You can tell they really wanted to put Viper or Three6ixMafia on there but just made another image to replace it.
You can get the same level of clothing for $30 by getting custom prints or silk screen printing shit yourself with the Tommy Wright cover of your choice at home.

You will never see this outside in the real world unless you live in like New York or LA. Zoomers dress in hoodies, jeans and sweatpants, shit even pyjamas they sleep in out in the real world. This ironic shit is the reason why Demna era VET is trendy once again.

    • Anonymous says:

Wrong. Seen it plenty in Seattle, ATL, Las Vegas, etc. Haven’t been to Miami, but I bet it is like that there too.

Literally in any big coastal city, you will see something like this easily by just spending more than 15 minutes outside. In LA or NYC, it will be more like 3-5 minutes.

        • Anonymous says:

          ah, then agreed, makes sense.

Mostly took it the other way until you clarified, because LA and NYC are kinda significantly in a league of its compared to all other big cities in plenty of ways that can’t be quite replicated.

Especially NYC, as the sheer density of people of all kinds here is like a superconductor for seeing some outlandish crazy shit at least multiple times a day. And it would usually be the kind of shit that is pretty much unheard of elsewhere. Same goes for some of non-crazy things too.

  18. Anonymous says:

ITT millennials reaching their middle age crisis, also pretending they totally didn’t repurpose their wardrobe from the 90’s indie rock scene, 80’s poptimism as well as other media nostalgia that came from gen X.
