is wearing all black effay?

or would i just look stupid? i dont want to look like a gay but i also want to have a much simpler wardrobe.

ex: 8 black shirts (long and short sleeved), 2 jackets for every season (except summer ofc), 3 straight pants, 3 cargo pants, 3 shorts, 3 sweatpants, etc, etc, etc.

it would keep things simple and allow me to really mix and match all my clothes without having to match colors. im also thinking id only buy high quality shit so i can make every clothing item last as long as possible, while also taking care of everything the best i can.

is this a bad idea?
(picrel from google, idk whos it is)

Could be, could make you look like a hecking dork stagehand at a community theater or a busboy at Red Lobster.

All depends on pieces, build, and accessories.

i was thinking something kind of like this. i want my outfits to be structured in a simple way that makes everything easy.

      is it an awful idea?

It sounds like you’re going more for utility than specific culture fashion, so really whatever you find to be most comfortable/aesthetic. I don’t think docs are very comfortable these days, but they are the classic slightly edgy look. Low key surplus euro military tend to work well, and you can break it up with converse style sneakers, it’s really just trainers that look weird.

Didn’t look closely enough, high top skate shoes are obviously fine if you do skate/want to cultivate that look, I thought those were like basketball shoes.

100%. im not really trying to be anything in specific, i just want to look decent with simple clothing choices.

no, they really arent. ive worn mine for 100s of hours and they kinda hecking suck.

all good, i was a bit confused but figured you saw something i didnt.
i wore a lot of vans and converse growing up, so i naturally gravitate towards those when searching for shoes.
i kind of want more chunky shoes/boots to wear, which is why i am very open to the idea of finding something else.
building off what you said aboult military surplus, i found these boots that i like, what do you think? looking at the rest of the clothes i was thinking of, do you think they would go well?

Not him but awful fat aspiecore. If you’re gonna wear black surplus boots like that you might as well look at nike sfbs.

you just sapped all the motivation i had for this right out of my body.

I think people these days are absolute out of their minds when it comes to wear. Doc Martens especially look better with wear. I say the more hecked up the better.

it’s simultaneously the easiest and most difficult colour to wear. if you mix textures, layer interestingly and play around with silhouettes all black is the patrician choice for outfit colour. if you’re just going to wear a black tee with black jeans and shoes i wouldn’t bother.

the edge/angst of wearing all black is going to be wasted if all of your black clothes are unremarkable, pedestrian garments. either inject some alt-ness into your outfits or try to take inspiration from the all black high fashion look on a budget that is more reasonable for you

personally, i think trying to be edgy isnt very sophisticated. a lot of teenagers nowadays dress all black and alt, its not special to be edgy, and its kinda gay to be honest. you want to embrace not caring about not being special. basic black clothing is much better for that and more original in a sense. i know this is the fashion board, but embracing practicality is the coolest imo. do what you feel like, your initial idea was good

every reply to this thread has made me second guess myself and caused me to change my mind again and again, but i think youre right.

the entire point of me dressing this way was to be practical, but then i decided to worry more about fashion than anything else when it undermines the original point entirely. my clothes will look fine.

thank you so much, anon! :))

It would look extremely bland, and look like you are pretending to belong to a CERTAIN 70S-80S CULTURE THAT IS EXTREMELY POSH AND PRETENTIOUS AND CANNOT BE NAMED too.

You can try mixing black with at least some charcoal or midnight blue which will be a vast improvement.

I’ve been wearing all black for almost 20 years. not really a /fashion/ guy, I just like lurking, but I wear mainly lee/levi or dickies pants. I have one ancient torn up black hoodie, and my black workout shirts, and one thing I did take from here is buying those goodfellow shirts from target. only colored things I have are football shirts and my green bomber jacket. it just werks

Try to incorporate texture and different materials to black, you don’t want to look like a silhouette but mostly all black is okay. If you want to dress it up a little you could go with silver accessories, a watch, brackets or a necklace but ultimately it’s not required if it’s just an everyday fit

All black is a perfectly fine idea, you can branch into any color from it, but dont go for like 3 different black cargo pants out of the gate thats a little excessive and you might not be that goth in a year
