Is this site audience like the perfect intersection between plebbittors and LULZfags?

It's a forum of delusional people and street shitters who all think they are future thought leaders. It's even worse than Reddit since the smug is off the charts. I'd say the technical aptitude of Reddit is higher at this point, too.

    >HN is written in Lisp
    Really makes you think

      So was reddit.
It started as a Y Combinator startup.

HN is essentially old /r/programming but with even more jerking off Paul Graham and webshittery.

they started shitting on pg a while back because capitalism bad

It has better discussion than LULZ since everyone isn't a rabid contrarian and most posters actually have worked in the industry before. Also the articles posted there are generally interesting and its safe for work.

by now there’s rarely even just a single interesting post on the front page whenever i check.

Why does a message board have free real estate in your head? I don't even read HN, work in 'tech' and make over 200k a year. Craziest part about it is I don't know how to code either. get off this board and the internet in general and then maybe just maybe you can end up like me. I only come here when im taking a shit

No, you are only allowed to have a reddit tier world view on there. Any deviation gets you deleted or banned.

bans and deletions are very rare if you play by the rules. you can talk about israelites/troons/coof/etc, but you have to stretch it into a paragraph of text and be vague. I had like 5 verbal warnings from the mod on my 2022 account, didn't get banned.
but there are certainly homosexuals who use alts or coordinate downvotes to hide wrongthink. I've seen shit flagged 20 seconds after being posted.

Most of the people there are really awful. Either totally inept or just horrible takes and attitudes. Their primary moderator though (dang) is pretty amazing. I feel like he has more or less kept the place from devolving into an utter wasteland.

The best posts there are people sharing their open source projects. Most of the other shit is just TEMs sucking off VCs or people chiming in on topics they know nothing about

thanks, man. I come here to reconnoiter emerging synergies sometimes and it's nice to hear a compliment.

Every time I've visited I see a lot of truly horrible 'advice' that can only be explained by malicious trolling by corporations attempting to sabotage up-coming competitors.

Ubuntu employees with the job title 'Head developer' not understanding basic Linux operations. People unironically recommending Alpine Linux, musl and Busybox. Overall the technical expertise is probably lower than LULZ with any attempt to push simpler technology being barraged with comments about how HTTP/1.0, zip or sockets being impossibly complicated to understand.

There are a few smart and interesting people on there still, but it's mostly orange reddit for webshitters these days. A lot of the non tech links that get left up now would not have been allowed to happen a few years ago. I miss n-gate like you wouldn't believe though.

plebbit is turning into twitter as its becoming more pozzed after they had their "sign into google" and no longer allows you to create an account without an email, which will eventually require a phone number. when plebbit dies, the population will sky rocket.
