>For most part, I agree. Menu bar at top vs. per Window is a matter of opinion, but Windows’ window controls are objectively superior
That's no longer the case. Apple made the right choice by forcing fag designers to use the menu at the top, because windows app developers are getting away with retarded hamburger menus and "click your profile picture to go to a menu to go to settings lmao" (fucking Microsoft Teams)
I always hated macintosh's menu bar outside the window mandate. It makes the windows themselves look more aesthetically pleasing. But it's hell for productivity, because it impedes multitasking. The worst part of using a mac for me has always been apps stealing focus from each other. I've had it happen to me on many occasions where I was typing something up, and the window in focus shifts and interrupts my workflow.

Microsoft had shit mostly figured out by windows 95. Apple still doesn't have drag and snap window controls. Fuck holding the green traffic light.
In general I find that apple requires more clicks and user actions to accomplish what I can do in windows with just the mouse. Apple's approach may work on laptops. But I use a desktop for 99% of my computing needs. And I multitask. Being productive and efficient means I can go home earlier.
Not really, Metro UI was ahead of its time and wasn't approved by apple, therefore designers called it shit. Then Apple did it and designers called it a shit attempt to copy Apple; the original intention of metro ui was to make Windows mobile actually usable
Looking back, the design of windows phone was way ahead of its time. I remember downloading a metro ui launcher from the android marketplace and it was great. I wouldn’t be surprised if this design doesn’t eventually make its way back, the flatness fits with recent design trends.

A company I worked for not long after Metro UI came out wanted an app for use by employees to access intranet junk from their phones. Since about half of the company still used BlackBerry phones, I was tasked with creating that app while a couple of coworkers made the Android and iOS versions. Given the screen constraints and limited power of the processor, a faux Metro design for the app worked out very well for the BlackBerry version. It got much better reviews from users than the Android and iOS versions but it ended up being a dead end as BlackBerry committed suicide and most employees switched to iphone or android.

This sounds interesting, I'd love to see it, was it the Z10 platform (post-playbook) or the original "curve" platform? I wasn't a huge blackberry guy at the time
Metro is flat but they still made the UI elements easily discoverable by sight instead of trying to make it into a plain, featureless surface out of which things appear when some arbitrary action is taken.

Material UI / modern "flat" design is an attempt to reduction that fails trying to keep original button based behavior rather than reimagining the content. Metro UI was a successful attempt at reduction, reducing bloat and making useful features available
Spent countless hours as a kid looking through icon packs on Mac Addict discs. Most people don't know that the origin of the Mac OS X aesthetic were a guy's icon pack called Blu Sky Icons. The wanting to lick it

Web apps becoming default apps. Good luck making glossy beautiful icons in CSS. That's all there is to mystery of flat & lame.
Think about how bad UI design has become, especially at Microsoft. Now realize that Windows 11 came about because most of the OS talent was transferred to Azure, with some going to Server, while consumer Windows was transferred to Microsoft's UI group. Windows 11 is what happens when you let UI fags run amuck on an OS.
Im thinking on getting an 11" macbook air from 2014 and downgrade it to Mavericks, use it only for C and C++ development with whatever was pre-installed, and to organize my music and shit. A nice offline laptop since the SSL version included is not compatible with most sites
Personally I'd spare myself the headache of messing with old Apple shit, or any Apple shit in general because I know it would put me through too much trouble for a hobby project and Mac OS really isn't that good.

Underline if its part of a paragraph or a sitemap. Its not needed, and ugly, if its part of the navbar because then they're clearly links.
No, I need this as a BARE minimum
