I prefer Windows Aero. Aqua never sat right with me. It felt like apple was encouraging it's users to have a sexual relationship with it's computers with aqua interface.

Aero on the other hand, feels light and free. Whimsical and mystical at the same time. Almost ethereal and dreamlike. But still grounded and accessible. I get this strange feeling of being inside a digital cathedral and looking through partially stained glass when using the Aero interface.

      [...]
Nowadays there's no texture, no feel, everything is kept as hidden as possible and since it's easy to do, pajeets are often hired to copy paste and hack together CSS and comes up with broken interfaces.

You're right about poojeets ruining the user experience. It feels like the ultimate end goal of the pajeet coder is to make UI resemble an early 2000's macintosh commercial. So juvenile, so coddled.

      >For most part, I agree. Menu bar at top vs. per Window is a matter of opinion, but Windows’ window controls are objectively superior
That's no longer the case. Apple made the right choice by forcing fag designers to use the menu at the top, because windows app developers are getting away with retarded hamburger menus and "click your profile picture to go to a menu to go to settings lmao" (fucking Microsoft Teams)

I always hated macintosh's menu bar outside the window mandate. It makes the windows themselves look more aesthetically pleasing. But it's hell for productivity, because it impedes multitasking. The worst part of using a mac for me has always been apps stealing focus from each other. I've had it happen to me on many occasions where I was typing something up, and the window in focus shifts and interrupts my workflow.

      for me is Skeumorphism

      >Skeumorphism
Only good for training pilots and other vehicle operators. It's fun but costs time and money.

      >Apple had some killer stuff back in the good old job days... clear user interfaces that shit all over the competition...
      When?

Microsoft had shit mostly figured out by windows 95. Apple still doesn't have drag and snap window controls. Fuck holding the green traffic light.

In general I find that apple requires more clicks and user actions to accomplish what I can do in windows with just the mouse. Apple's approach may work on laptops. But I use a desktop for 99% of my computing needs. And I multitask. Being productive and efficient means I can go home earlier.

Not really, Metro UI was ahead of its time and wasn't approved by apple, therefore designers called it shit. Then Apple did it and designers called it a shit attempt to copy Apple; the original intention of metro ui was to make Windows mobile actually usable

Looking back, the design of windows phone was way ahead of its time. I remember downloading a metro ui launcher from the android marketplace and it was great. I wouldn’t be surprised if this design doesn’t eventually make its way back, the flatness fits with recent design trends.

A company I worked for not long after Metro UI came out wanted an app for use by employees to access intranet junk from their phones. Since about half of the company still used BlackBerry phones, I was tasked with creating that app while a couple of coworkers made the Android and iOS versions. Given the screen constraints and limited power of the processor, a faux Metro design for the app worked out very well for the BlackBerry version. It got much better reviews from users than the Android and iOS versions but it ended up being a dead end as BlackBerry committed suicide and most employees switched to iphone or android.

Metro is flat but they still made the UI elements easily discoverable by sight instead of trying to make it into a plain, featureless surface out of which things appear when some arbitrary action is taken.

                Anonymous

Material UI / modern "flat" design is an attempt to reduction that fails trying to keep original button based behavior rather than reimagining the content. Metro UI was a successful attempt at reduction, reducing bloat and making useful features available

Think about how bad UI design has become, especially at Microsoft. Now realize that Windows 11 came about because most of the OS talent was transferred to Azure, with some going to Server, while consumer Windows was transferred to Microsoft's UI group. Windows 11 is what happens when you let UI fags run amuck on an OS.

It isn't hard to read at all though? If you literally know more than like 100 kanji in total, you have no problem reading this.

You don't. Your brain read the shape of a word, not by single characters. The same applies.

ClearType isn't enabled by default on Windows XP, that picture is what Windows Media Player 11 looked like on it, on Vista the bottom section was translucid (on non-basic aero themes)

Where do you think Windows would be at today if we got Longhorn instead of Vista

        >today
They would have thrown out the code base in favor of the much more stable and secure server branch sooner or later, and most of what LH brought to the table would have been replaced with cloud/web shit before long.
So much the same as it is now.

You need it for some features to be enabled, like WebGL or proper file input support I believe, also for testing route management and shit, sometimes there's no way around it, also also live reload makes it comfy

The noise is a little too much for me but it has that depth that reminds me of Photoshop UI, it looks very good anon, hopefully we get a libadwaita theme that brings that sort of stuff back into Gnome

impressive, very nice. i think the text needs more depth to it, kind of like how older mac versions highlighted the bottom of text

I like the productivity and workflow of tiling window managers but I don't like the aesthetic. It's too minimalist. I like MATE's aesthetic and GTK2 . Fat buttons, and panels.

Going to have to probably craft my own custom dwm and dmenu skins with GTK.
