How to Win Friends and Influence People is basically A Beginner's Guide to Human Interaction for Raging Autists. Also there's the original, "Self-Help" by Samuel Smiles, but apart from that you're better off just reading ancient texts and philosophy. Obviously there's Marcus Aurelius as well but it seems like quite a stretch to call Meditations, "Self-Help"

The Power of Habit is decent as well. If you have ADHD, Driven to Distraction can be a good read. 99% of self help books are moronic though. If you do read them they should be a small portion of what you read.

        >It’s also more like ‘how to be a simp and have people walk all over you’.
You do realise that the prideful "macho" attitude you're displaying here is in the same league as narcotics and alcoholism in terms of something which is socially reinforced to prevent growth. Low-class men who consider themselves more masculine than the white-collar career-climber are like crabs in a bucket, holding onto an uncooperative attitude so they don't have to fail, learn and grow.

I felt especially "helped" by Genesis 19:
[30] And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
[31] And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
[32] Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
[33] And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
[34] And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our Father.
[35] And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
[36] Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

Most bible study attempts to frame Lot and his daughters' actions here to not be something worth praising. I believe the pitch is that Lot and his family were still fricked up Sodomites but but he still had the heart of a decent guy even if his priorities were messed up.

Is their viewpoint supported by the Bible, or are they essentially trying to write their own Bible?
The latter would be an abomination unto the Lord.

I’m going to enlighten everyone on this verse. So this is how the founder of the moabites was born. He was born out of drunken incest. Israel by contrast was freed from slavery and conquered the land of Canaan. It is a polemic agaisnt Moab. It is as if to say “hey Moab you come from drunken incest, you’re a loser”
Verse 37 confirms this (conveniently left out by this degenerate) so no this is not a good thing. Moab is Israel’s enemy in the Bible “Moab is my wash pot” as the psalms say. It’s funny how if people read literally one more verse past and thought a little bit they could figure it out

As this dude said. It is not a good thing.

This one is good because it's foundational to all other forms of self-help. I think a lot of people skip this step so when they encounter adversity the grindset bros just did not equip them to really have the energy to continue. This book is the science of the glass being half full.

They are usually good for optimising your life a bit more but I haven't met a single person that has really been to able to overcome problems by reading self-help books.
I don't think that the advice is bad or that they are scam per se but that it is too difficult to implement the advice onto one's life since most lifes are very complex.
The exception are to some degree pick-up books, which seem to have a high success rate in comparison to typical self-help books but they give advice that is apparently easier to implement.
I don't know anyone who has solved the 'discipline problem' by applying a system from a self-help book. Either they have never seriously struggled with the problem or they have been in a special phase (death of a parent, birth of a child, sudden belief in god) in their life that has made the change in their life somehow easy.
Plus I think it is difficult to change your life just on your own but then almost no one has a partner or mentor to achieve the change and the internet daddys such as some internet grifters are mediocre replacements at best.

    >Is there any worthwhile self-help book?
'The Defining Decade - Why Your Twenties Matter--And How to Make the Most of Them Now' by Meg Jay.
It gives a good oversight what you should better have achieved in your twenties as a normie and hints at the consequences if you fail to achieve them. It is well written and althoug some of that is my opinion bs such as using the myers-briggs test as a tool to see whether to fit to your partner I very much recommend it - I wish I had read it a long time ago. But I doubt that it would have been enough for me to have the life that I desire, my life had too many problems.

I made a chart once about learning how to learn but I lost it. If someone could post it, that would be nice. The other poster is right for the most part though. Self help when written in sweeping platitudes doesn’t change your underlying ideological predisposition. It’s hard to be brainwashed by a book into becoming a workaholic. The other side of the spectrum are books like Getting Things Done that lay out automatically detailed systems the person has to implement, which can be too overwhelming to do all at once without the help of someone else. It’s a fine balance, and if you’re in the inspired mood, you can use self help to set up systems that make unmotivated you more productive. I unno, there’s plenty to critique and dive deep on the subject but holy shit IQfy sucks today.

Was it just book chart with efficency books such as Deep work or more than that?? I got introduced into Getting Things done in 2018 or 2019 and I have been using a slightly altered version of it since then. It's pretty good for organising stuff and works in certain types of work environments very well.

They work if you want them to work. That's the secret. It's all about you and your mindset. A book can't force you to want to do something. You need to convince your own mind. Only if you truly want to change will you change. The only thing that is real is your action that you choose. That's it. Everything else is hot air to make the ego feel good. At the end of the day all that matters is what you choose to do. But people delude themselves with all kinds of excuses without even realizing it.

        >You need to convince your own mind.
Any advice for that to make it stick? I mean I can convince myself easily that writing my master thesis now to be done quickly is good for me but I tend to procrastinate nonetheless.

          Anonymous

Yes, here is my tip. Live in the moment. The present moment is all that exists. Are you working on your thesis right now? No. Why? Because you don't want to. Don't give yourself any excuses, just be honest with yourself. If you wanted to work on your thesis right now then you would. But since you don't, stop thinking about it until such time as you want to work on it. Say "I am not working on my thesis right now because I don't want to."

When you want to work on it, just do it. Stop thinking about it otherwise.

Read The Power of Now and you'll see what I mean.

most of them are scams. All of the "be successful with women or business" ones are scams. All the "become an alpha male" ones are scams.
The "overcoming" series of self-help books are good and based on CBT (works for some not for others). They have a wide selection. I've found people with Autism responded quite positively to "The Social Skills Guidebook" by Chris MacLeod.

They work, but the problem is:
    1. Depending on what you're trying to fix or improve, you will need another book to supplement it because the problem is deeper than you realize (ie. A book on how to be more sociable, when what you really need to read first is a book on Self-Esteem.)

    2. Tying in with the first point, you need a decent level of conciousness to understand exactly what and where your problems are stemming from.

3.They regurgitate the same ideas so you'll notice diminishing returns quickly as you read your 2nd book about managing money.

Find out which books are the actual best in your subject of interest then look for books that specifically target something that the best books didn't expand enough on or if at all.

The first step that must be taken is to study. Patience is the key to this endeavor. Study comes in the form of observation. The first and most important observations are those of the self. Careful observation of one’s motivations and desires reveals the “commanding self” or “ego” that prevents any true objectivity in man’s observations and motivations.
No self-help shlock will do this, neither will psychoanalysis, philosophy, religion and science.

That's because these books give you the ability to *pretend* that you are changing.
