Is there any horror written in the last 30 years that isn't shit?

I've been hankering for something horror, I mean really unsettling, in your guts horror. But nothing recent tickles my bones.
Even the classic authors like King are now cranking out derivative shlock.

Unreal's recent horror release is unironically pretty good. Probably better than most tradpubbed horror these days. There's a bunch of horror stories that have a classic kind of vibe, original concepts, and some actual uneasiness that is earned. KGB Agents is good in particular.

I keep hearing things but one OP called it out for being gimmicky and basically an artistic experiment with no weight.

Good modern horror isn't found in books. Modern classics are SCPs, creepypastas, nosleep blogposts. Yes I know that sounds cringe but that's where the quality is if you're willing to sift through the junk.

      Based I should've submitted

Nah, it's good. Just read it. I really liked it, but maybe that was because I read it close to 10 years ago before the israelites on this board psyop'd us into thinking it was nothing but gimmicky when it's in fact a really solid narrative (well, for the most part, depending on how much you let moronic terminally online contrarians dictate what you like and don't like about a book). Johnny's story ruled, frick all who think otherwise.

No. That's why the books have flamboyant books covers. Can't sell them based on the work.

Quite often the cover really does do an accurate job of characterizing the book it's plastered on, uncannily often in fact.

Ugh. Misery porn is the worst and most unsophisticated kind of horror in my opinion. Cool cover though, for sure.

Everything I've read by Adam Nevill is real good. Ritual is great if you want innawoods scared. Last Days and The Reddening also recommended.

More of a thriller/adventure story, but does have a bit of a horror vibe: The Descent by Jeff Long. (Not related to the movie of the same name, but it does take place underground.)

The Fisherman by John Langan. I didn't find it all that scary, but very entertaining and unique.

Urban Gothic if you want something moronic.
